It's also a nice explanation of how developers can benefit from ray-tracing.
Segway to Glasswire if old.

No, you made the right choiceI'll take 60fps over ray tracing any day of the week.

As much as I love ray-tracing, a locked 60fps is more important.I'll take 60fps over ray tracing any day of the week.

Money?
Not if you play Miles Morales
They didn't use Control... thats like the game to RTX on. Come on.
Hell any kind of recent game using it would be nice (minecraft being fine to test it with)
They used tomb raider, minecraft, wolfenstein.
Exacly! Despite him doing his research(As it shows on the video), it still come as uninformed and falsely objective video. I guess he wanted a casual reaction from RT, but alas. Regardless, Ray-Tracing is the future of real-time rendering and has a lot of positives for developers. It's a trash comparison. These are all games built with rasterization and the same old tricks. No shit raytracing shoehorned into them doesn't really pop out. But look at something like Metro Exodus. I could tell which one's raytraced and which one isn't in seconds. As more and more games integrate RT from the beginning of their development, the gap will become more obvious.
Really appreciated that they patched this option in.

Exactly. Why would you not run this test with the games that actually heavily use RT? Such a stupid video.Should have picked Metro Exodus, Control and Cyberpunk. My guess is that everyone would have easily spotted the differences then.
The performance hit will be less severe as tech progresses.I've been saying this for years, but I've yet to see a single example of ray tracing that justifies the performance hit.

Then why would you not wait and run the test with Metro Exodus? He says as much in the video, explicitly citing Metro Exodus as an example of how much of a difference it can make.

Exactly lol. Came in here to say "test with Metro Exodus and let me know how it goes".Then why would you not wait and run the test with Metro Exodus?
Why not both?I'll take 60fps over ray tracing any day of the week.

He could have used Control or Cyberpunk for starters where the RT effect is significantly more pronounced. Additionally the take away shouldn't be avoid paying extra for RTX but rather how the difference between rasterization and bad implementations of ray tracing is minimal.Because Metro Exodus is still the exception, not the norm and the video is more about how games have been faking it until now.
I can agree with that. I just think that, specifically the PS5 and Series X trying to force ray tracing in so many games is premature. That horsepower could be much, much better used elsewhere with that hardware. Save ray tracing for next-gen in 8 years.
Yup, I want DLSS in all my PC games
