Krysten Ritter is set for the lead role in the "Orphan Black" sequel series currently in the works at AMC, Variety has learned.

The new series is titled "Orphan Black: Echoes" and was ordered to series at AMC back in April. Ritter will executive produce in addition to starring.

Set in the near future, "Orphan Black: Echoes" takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.

Ritter will play Lucy, described as a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world.

AMC has given the show a 10-episode order. It is expected launch on AMC and AMC Plus in 2023. As Variety exclusively reported, Anna Fishko will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner. John Fawcett, the co-creator of "Orphan Black:" who directed 17 episodes of the series, will executive produce and direct "Echoes."

I don't...I don't think an Orphan Black show without Tatiana is going to get many people's attention. Especially considering how rough the OG show got by the end of its run.

Ritter is a good choice, for sure, but I can't say I was screaming for more after the series finale. It did its absolute best to salvage a show that had basically crashed into a wall the season before, and ended with a decent amount of closure.

Hoping this commitment doesnt prevent her from coming back to the MCU as Jessica Jones if thats still in the plans

Not sure I needed this sequel series but I'm down to check it out because of her

Yeah, feels really weird to be making an Orphan Black show that is lacking the main thing the original show was lauded for (Maslany's multiple performances).

That being said, Ritter is good so if the writing is good this could be cool.

Completely forgot about this show.

I loved it until it got way too complex to follow during the penultimate season and never finished the last season.

No Tatiana Maslany and no clones is a strange choice, even if I like Ritter.

Yeah, the second to last season shit the bed hard. Then the final season tried to pull out of the tailspin but in my opinion it was too little, too late. Especially them trying to kinda redeem Rachel by the end.

Does this mean it's time for a Orphan Black rewatch? I've been thinking about it for a while now. Even if the show isn't as good at least I got my share of Orphan Black with Tatiana,

I'm curious although I stopped watching Orphan Black after the weak season 2 and it looks like it got worse from there.

Orphan Black always felt like one of those shows that was RIGHT ON THE CUSP of becoming something great storywise. And it just felt that way the entire time.

Great performances and cast though.

It's like the ultimate B sci fi show. Carried by weird shit happening, them constantly hiding they're filming in Toronto, and a great cast (5+ of them played by Tatiana herself lol).

Point is. I'm in.

Is she gonna be a clone playing multiple selves? Cause that was really the main draw of Orphan Black with Tatiana Maslany. Without that, it's just kind of a mediocre-ish urban sci-fi show. Ritter is cool though I guess

I feel like the conceit's gotta be completely different. If it's just another clone show with a new actress it's going to run out of steam pretty quickly, since the OG show did the same. If they're gonna move forward with this, Ritter's gotta be completely distinct from the Leda clones.

Yeah, my assumption based on the little info we have is that Ritter's character will have some connection to Leda but not actually have her own clone situation.

This is where I'm at with this. The original series ended in a way that didn't really leave it open for sequels or spinoffs. This could obviously still be fine, but the lore with the clone project by the end doesn't exactly give me much confidence that this won't be some kind of ass pull.

I liked Orphan Black all the way through. I didn't realize people disliked the later seasons.

I'll always be up for more Orphan Black, I just have a hard time believing anyone could pull the concept off as well as Tatiana.

I like her and she's very pretty and all that, but I don't think she's particularly strong or charismatic actress. IMO, she got outshined on her own show, I am glad to see her getting roles - but as a lead in a show buoyed out throughout all its repetitive ridiculousness by acting masterclass performed by Maslany - I don't have high hopes. Maybe it will be a pleasant surprise, ofc. Not saying she's bad, she's competent and charming, but that's a lot of weight on her.

Started and finished Orphan Black because I thought it was a J.J.Abrams show, until after I finished it realizing it was in fact, not a J.J.Abrams show. Biggest blunder of my life! Orphan Black was still a good show, mind you.

I feel like they embraced the Canadianness of the show in later seasons a bit more, but the first two seasons in particular were weirdly vague, such as the military subplot and Mexico, even though license plates were clearly marked Ontario and the money was undeniably Canadian.

Man. I don't know if Tatiana can be replaced, she utterly made that show.

But I'll tune in cause Orphan Black…fucking loved it.

I'm still mildly annoyed they removed it from AMC+ like the day before prime day. I subbed just to watch it, and it's gone.

+1 for not realizing people didn't like the later seasons, I guess they weren't as good but I don't remember them being bad or anything. The last episode was especially satisfying.

That said, it feels like a show with a pretty definitive ending. Not sure where to go from there.

The main villain, presumably. He was a much more charming and interesting character with a much stronger performance and more enjoyable screentime iirc.

If that's what they meant, that's fine. (A great villain tends to do that anyways) I read that as them talking about the supporting cast and I was completely lost at who they could possibly put over Ritten's performance lol
