What is the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series?
A collection of two remasters, "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile" and "Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil." Both titles are 2D side-scrolling platformers that have you running, jumping, grabbing and tossing through a series of level-based stages that offer some optional exploration to encourage hunting for collectable items.
How long are the games?
The original release of "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile" takes around 5 hours to complete and "Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil" a bit longer and approaches the 8 hour range, but your playtime will be influenced by difficulty and interest in finding collectables.
What's changed with these remasters?
In addition to unlockable hard difficulty, 2-player support and stopwatch modes—the visuals have been given a significant overhaul from the original releases including reverting the artistic changes made in the Wii remake of "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile" (character design, voices, color palette) to fall more in line with the PS1 original.
Can I turn off the tutorial prompts?
Yes, there is a toggle for that in the options menu.
How does the game perform on the various consoles?
*Switch (Docked): 60fps at 1080p
*Switch (Handheld): 60fps at 720p
**Xbox One: 60fps at 1080p
Xbox Series S: 60fps at 1440p
Xbox Series X: 60fps at 2160p
**PlayStation 4: 60fps at 1080p
PlayStation 5: 60fps at 2160p
*Analysis of the Asian pre-demo for the game on Switch shows it does not maintain that 60fps target.
**The game does not have enhancements for the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro.
Steam Deck compatibility?
While the game has not yet been marked as officially compatible, early impressions show that they game is running well on the machine.
Physical release?
Yes, but only in Asian and European territories. If you wish to own the game physically in North America you will, as of writing this thread, need to import it (all versions support the English language).

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie is a superb collection of platform games that shine a light on an iconic character from the genre, one that deserves this moment. Both games are full of fun and intricately designed levels, and not only look stunning, but are warm and welcoming.

These are excellent ports-slash-remasters, and if you track down a physical copy from Europe or Japan, that new box art is lovely. These are excellent games that deserved and still deserve better. But it's great to have them and play them again without dragging out a PS2. I just hope the numbers look good enough at the end of the day for more.
PushSquare - 7/10
Phantasy Reverie Series is a relatively no-frills remaster collection. There's a couple of quality of life improvements and the games have a fresh lick of high definition paint, but if you didn't like Klonoa back in the day then you're not going to like it now. If you didn't play Klonoa at the time then you won't have the prerequisite nostalgia goggles necessary to gaze upon these games and see them for anything more than what they are — a couple of pretty good platformers and little else, and that's fine.
