Since a lot of people thought the early Founder's Editions selling out was indicative of early interest, it looks like that may not necessarily be the case.

Schreier does think Google will stick with the service, but that they will have to pivot from their current pricing strategy.

My cousin's friend heard thing i want to push agenda with. Good old Kotaku.

btw how can anything selling out be below expectations? that's pretty much mutually exclusive. if they had higher expectations they would have produced more...

Google a big enough to support and tweak this for at least a couple of years even if it costs them money. They're smart enough to see a big market in cloud gaming if they can get it right and they're not just going to let it die at the 1st attempt.

Is it bad that I'm happy? The sooner these streaming services fail the better, hopefully others follow suit.

It's really disappointing how poorly this was handled. With their cloud ecosystem, Google was in the perfect position to make Stadia great, and they pretty much just blew it in every way.

This isn't surprising when even the most devoted stadia supporters cancelled their preorders on here after seeing inital impressions. It seems like it has alot to go before it's ready for release.

This feels weird to say given its being financed by a tech giant with massive resources, but it just feels like Google is completely out of their depth with Stadia. They're offering solutions to barriers that gamers have long been conditioned to accept (console hardware), at the end of a generation when the market is already saturated with that hardware, all while not offering any compelling exclusive content of their own.

Killed by Google

Killed by Google is the open source list of dead Google products, services, and devices. It serves as a tribute and memorial of beloved services and products killed by Google.

Not saying they deserve support with this lack luster launch but they never had a chance with everyone trying to kill it on day one . Seems like the pitchforks were ready

It hasn't strictly sold out though. Yes, the Founders Edition sold out. But then they started selling the Premier Edition, which you can still buy. I can imagine a scenario where they wanted to sell more of those than they have done.

The tech could have been neat, but it would be better as something that compliments a local copy. Like imagine if whenever you bought a stadia game, you were given a steam key or an egs key but you are also able to stream it anywhere via stadia. X cloud i think will do
Better because its not trying to replace native hardware, just offer another way to play.

With the added bonus of mediocre performance, compromised streaming quality, and extremely averse to spotty internet moments, all while being able to pay absolute top dollar for a limited lineup of games that are mostly fairly old! How could anyone resist!!

good wake up call for PSnow and Xcloud and those imaginary 2.5 billion gamers that can not wait to play next asssasins creed on 4 inch mobile while carrying a fanny pack and a controller everywhere .Hope they dont make streaming main focus of their platform.

Two things would have helped this be more successful:
  1. They should have labeled this a Beta or Early Access
  2. It should be a subscription model first a retail store second. Similar to Game Pass.
The view of it would be totally different if they did those two things.

It looked DOA from the reveal and all the way up to now. So it should surprise no one that it's a flop. A well deserved flop by how they've tried to sell it versus reality, and also considering the hilariously silly pricing. Good riddance.

psnow and xcloud are ALREADY more attractive products than stadia

I still think it is early days for Stadia and they could turn it around but it has had so much negative response so far, it's hard to see how you recover. It makes all the early Xbox One stuff seem like a breeze.

Even if this doesn't prove anything i still don't see Stadia selling well, maybe if it had some really good exclusive to give this console an identity...

The real Stadia is really out when there are no other fees than the game purchase, which is some time next year. Requiring a "founders edition" purchase is ridiculous for a service that is supposed to run on any screen with an internet connection.

It doesn't seem to offer anything that I can't get elsewhere, apart from that one game by the RiME devs that may or may not be a timed exclusive. Otherwise, its launch is supported by a bunch of games that have been out for months/years, and if I was interested in them I would have played them by now. Plus my broadband connection kinda sucks in general, so there's that.

Even if it had an all you can eat subscription model, how many of the currently 22 games on the service would be included in that?

The reality is that Game Pass and PS Now have more games included than the entire Stadia platform will likely have even a year or so from now.

They made the No Man's Sky mistake. All they had to do was slap early access onto the branding and all this bad publicity turns into oh it's still in development.
