Call of Duty is no longer an annual release*.

*Release being defined as a standalone, on-the-shelf purchase. Please spend $70 on the premium expansion.

I wonder if youll have to own MW2 to play this content or if you could just have the MW2 launcher ala Warzone and pay for this expansion content separately

I mean, they have "leaked" this many times, there are some threads already with same exact info.

The MP content is supposedly either all of OG MW2 maps or a greatest hits collection of maps from all CODs.

Fuck yeah. Mw1 a few years ago should've done this. Will purchase whatever expansion eventually.

Hope this opens the door to a COD platform instead of standalone releases... I like the idea of a full expansion if it means I can keep my progress going forward.

Well I hope that means that Sledgehammer isnt changing any of the gameplay elements and just adds new content.
You can say all the bad things you want about MW19 and MW2 but Infinity Ward CoDs are the only ones I enjoy.

I assume this is what MS meant by holding COD back from being an annual franchise.

Anyway, I'm excited for this, and given how insanely stacked 2023 is, I'm fine with COD taking a break.

Wait, so 2023 will be the first year without a new CoD standalone release since what, 10 years?

I like the multiplayer a lot already -- it's forced me to out of a lot of my past COD habits and I'm enjoying the adjustments I'm having to make.

Do not mind having it supported through another year. I do hope the additional multiplayer content is actually good though.

Funny, I'm hoping for the opposite.
But they'll probably just be doing maps (which is fine, I love their maps).

You can say all you want, but I'm saying something different

I really hope Zombies in 2024 is better developed than in Vanguard.

Should have been this way from the beginning instead of forcing an entirely new game out the door every year when the games still have life in them and have massive active player counts. It was one of the reasons besides the core differences in gameplay I gravitated towards the BF franchise away from CoD.

A greatest hits of Call of Duty maps similar to what they did with Zombie Chronicles would be great.

It won't happen but I would love for OG Nuketown to be in it. That's my all time favorite map but I'm fine waiting for the next Treyarch game for it too.

With how MW2 ended it makes sense to give it more SP content if they want to continue to roughly follow the OG trilogy timeline with MW3

I have no problems with this. I've wanted Activision to support their CoD games with additional content for longer than a year ever since the first Modern Warfare back in 07 instead of the current annual release cycle. Just don't charge $70 for it.
