This came up on Reddit, which I presumed is re-uploaded from Tiktok. We don't support Reddit Video embeds, so this will have to do.

While watching the video, I didn't realize just how loud it is when you insert the discs into the tray in all of these PlayStation consoles. Also, it got progressively longer to wait between booting up your PlayStation console and inserting a disc in to play. The PlayStation 1 is the quickest by far when it comes to loading and starting the game.

What are your thoughts? They're unexpectedly loud for me.....

I don't remember the first PlayStation being that loud. Just a bit of "scraping" sound. In the other hand PS5 drive is really noisy, like a hairdryer on the first gear.

Silly me, didn't read the thread, lol. But yeah, putting the disc inside definitely generates some noise.

I don't think they're that loud in real life, might have to do with the mic in the vid. I love the snap on sound of the PS1 and 2. My PS5 launch model is still quiet when running discs, so I got lucky there.

Shout out to the turning on beep being the same since the PS3 though.

I think it's just the mic used here, seems very sensitive. The consoles do get load when reading a disk/dvd though.

PS5 in particular gets really loud when installing a game from disk.

Peak loudness for me is Dreamcast,Xbox 360,PS4, and PS4 Pro.

Dreamcast GD-ROM is the goat though. Will always remember playing Skies of Arcadia and you'd know a random battle was about to start because the drive would go nuts.

I still have all my originals, and they're all fine. Disc drives always make a little noise, and the Playstations are all just normal in that regard.

As has already been mentioned, the Dreamcast is the loud one. It sounds like someone put a playing card in its spokes.

PS4 is the worst offender of the bunch, but that system in general is just obnoxiously loud. I'm ok with the PS5 since the disc drive is only used sparingly. PS1 and 2(slim) I hardly noticed or maybe my memory is just bad.

I'm pretty sure it's that game but on DC I remember there was a rpg where when I heard the drive go nuts I could break the loading and skip the random battle.

The Dreamcast was loud as hell. The loudest, even.

The OG Xbox drive was usually pretty quiet, but there were some games where you could hear it going to town and it kind of ruined things. The disc always had to load in Fatal Frame 2 whenever something spooky was going to happen, so it spoiled all of the jump scares.

Most of the earlier ones seem louder likely due to age. It's funny that it's another video where all the doors get opened correctly except the Super Slim.

That phat PS3 noise is so nostalgic, i love it. OG PS4 is also super satisfying.

I think the video maker is bullying the consoles not just opening trays. XD
Or the mic is so close it just amplifies the sounds.

This is a crap mic (which also seemingly captures a very narrow frequency range. Because most sounds in this video, sound very similar). And it is also probably manually gain boosted or dynamically gain boosted (most Cellphones do). And then pour some social media audio compression on top of that ;)

My PS5 spins up pretty loud when I put a game in but just for a few moments or until the actual disc portion is installed. I have occasionally had an issue where it continued spinning up every 10 minutes or so if I was playing a digital game but left the disc from another game in, but if I took the disc out and reinserted it, it would stop.
