So this was brought up on the Sony OT by poklane and I thought it was good thing to point out.

So today Sony announced that Sackboy is coming to Steam, and preorders are already up. What's interesting is that the price on Steam is €59.99 while the same game on PS5 is €69.99. Why is that? Also I should clarify that is for the Europe version of the game, no idea how the pricing is like for the rest for the world. But either way this is a bad look for a Sony first party game that has already been out for close to two years on their own console.

they actually want to sell more than a few copies is my guess, pc users are more price sensitive

I guess because if you buy the PS4 version it's a free PS5 upgrade so you don't have to buy the more expensive PS5 version.

The PS4 version has a free upgrade so I assume that's why. Don't think this'll be the case when we start seeing ports of next gen only games. If TLOU P1 is cheaper on PC we riot

Edit- seems a regional thing. Maybe the price changes soon close to release of the PC version. Or like someone mentioned yesturday, when it gets added to PS+/Extra.

Its a regional pricing thing. Its $60 USD on both platforms.

I just double checked, and in the NA PSN store, Sackboy is indeed 59.99 (currently on sale for 29.99), and this is the same price as Steam.

Buy Sackboy: A Big Adventure - PS5™ Disc Game | PlayStation® (US)

Take Sackboy on an epic 3D platforming adventure with your friends faving thrilling challenges as you explore on PS5

I don't think it is?

UK pricing is:

Steam: £49.99
PS5: £59.99

Honestly I'm surprised its even £49.99 on PC, was expecting £39.99 myself though there's no excuse for the PS5 pricing tbh.

Edit, oh wait are you saying Steam prices are adjusted from the USA price for each region whilst PSN prices are not?

I'm surprised you are surprised tbh. This is par on the course with Sony pricing attitude in Europe.

60€ is normal price for PC games
70€ is normal price for console games

Happens with other games too

I'll be honest. Instead of only realizing this and speaking about it now, Y'all should've complained in a big number when Sony started raising PS game prices. Sony prices PS customers more because a lot of PS players pay for it.

I'll reiterate what I've been saying for months and years even, in the current climate where MTX and super bonuses and profits for execs in the industry are at a high, no game is worth $70 and also keeping the base price for 2 years straight is shitty from a customer's PoV.

Sony has been terrible with pricing this gen tbh.

The fact that most (all?) of their games from the past couple of years haven't had a permanent price cut is insane. Like, back in 2018, GoW got a permanent price cut less than a year from its release. Same thing happened with pretty much all their first party offerings back then.

But right now Sackboy is still $60 on PSN and Demon Souls, Returnal, Ratchet, etc are all still $70.

Lol I just ranted about pricing from sony a few hours ago and now this with Sackboy xD.
But to be fair i think even sony is not that stupid to let the psn price higher than the steam price. I think they will reduce the price on psn on the release day of the pc version.

I think it's a case of Sony still selling a ton of PS5's and they know that new owner's are willing to pay $70 for that only on PS5 experience in regards to Demon Souls, Returnal and Ratchet.

To be fair, this has been a thing for a while from multiple publishers, both officially and unofficially.

Console tax I guess.

Is there any reason that God of War on PS5 is more expensive than on PS4?

They just pick the price that the majority of people on said platform will be happy to pay.

Steam users are not paying 70 Euros for a game on Steam. PS4 gamers aren't paying 70 Euros for a PS4 game. Current gen console/PS5 owners have shown that they're happy to.

It was 25 USD on sale recently too. Id say only buy it when its on sale which should be a lot more often or every other month or so.

Yea, I was mainly thinking about their new releases after PS5 came out.

It seems like they are trying to do away with permanent price cuts this gen. At least thus far it seems that way.

Because that's Sony's RRP for console games at the time it released, I guess. The maximum price isn't going to change, they incentivise purchases via sales.

But given it's 2 years old on console, you can get it far cheaper. It's on sale for £35 every other week and my bet is that it enters the PS+ collection shortly after the PC release.

and this is if you buy your games as a PC gamer on Steam/whatever launcher directly
Which is definitely not the best deal
But then at that point you've got to compare to other ways of getting console games, like physical retailers. These are usually cheaper than the cheapest prices on PC (even if you count the bad key resellers quite often which you probably shouldn't), especially at launch and outside of PC sale seasons.
