Haven't seen anything about this in national media, but South Florida has been getting drowned out by rain over the last few days and my work feed and Instagram have been full of flooding news. Looks like things could get worse in the next few days with more rain too.

https://www.local10.com/news/local/...te-flooding-after-days-of-downpours-in-miami/
MIAMI – For the third day straight Wednesday, downpours continued across South Florida, with heavy rains leaving downtown Miami streets impassable and drivers stranded.

At the same time, city, county and state workers were stepping up efforts to alleviate flooding.

In the Edgewater neighborhood, pumps moved water out of storm drains and Miami-Dade County vacuum trucks stood by in case heavier downpours lead to more flooding coinciding with the afternoon high tide.

Drivers trying to maneuver through the area of Biscayne Boulevard near Interstate 395 downtown noticed heavy flooding that seemed to build up faster than in past years amid construction by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Local 10 News asked officials what was being done to keep drivers safe.

"We're maintaining the existing drainage systems, cleaning the inlets, the structures, we're also going to be doing additional cleanings to the injection wells," FDOT spokesperson Oscar Gonzalez said.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, drivers were largely able to pass through without any issues. Officials say

Very glad I moved out of South Florida for numerous reasons but the fact that a few thunderstorms could shut down roads so easily just makes me imagine how bad a full on hurricane would be in the area. The area has been fortunate in the past few years with a number of storms swerving paths right before South Florida, but one is eventually going to hit and bring the whole area down.

American in Costa Rica
I have been watching this in a newsroom in another state
Its unprecedented to see rainfall in 7 hours that you would get over 7 month totals in the area
Wishing everyone the best and keep safe
The airport has people trapped can't leave either way

I'm legitimately curious what would happen to these communities if this level of flooding became commonplace, would they be able to withstand several weeks of this every year?

Looking at all the flooding on the drive home today was something. The wind had me fighting with my car door the other day.

Torrential storms batter South Florida, close key airport

Nearly a foot of rain fell in a matter of hours in Fort Lauderdale – causing widespread flooding, the closure of the city’s airport and the suspension of high-speed commuter rail service for the Broward County region. The relentless showers prompted the airport to suspend all arriving and...

Here's hoping things are better tomorrow; I've got an event in southern Broward I've been looking forward to on Thursday night.

Here's hoping Biscayne Boulevard clears out fast. Lord knows it's already a pain in the ass to commute it when it's dry.

I got stuck there on Monday trying to get home right before the arena when the flooding started. Took me 90 minutes to go roughly 15 blocks. I just opted to work from home until the weather dries out.

It was incredible watching three rotating supercell thunderstorms in South Florida, all simultaneously, all nearly stationary for the entire time.

Like this is unbelievable storm behavior. A lot of it I think being the product of the storm having no real forces acting on it, so it was free to do whatever.

Two FEET of rainfall in 6 hours? holy shit

A co-worker was telling me about this earlier. It sounded like they've been trapped in their home for awhile. Stay safe Miami ERA.

We even got tornado warnings in my area.

Our lake in the backyard rose quite a bit, it was alarming. Seems there will be more storms today according to forecasts.

Orlando has been super dry for months. It's been drizzling and raining but after Hurricane Ian scare where my street flooded I don't want anything to do with rain like this.

This storm was insane. Lived here for 20 years and never saw anything like it. My entire street was covered with water. The airport was worse than during some hurricanes. Just look for the #FLL hashtag on tik tok or twitter to see some crazy stuff.

I'm on a work call with my team in Miami and they just spent the first 20 minutes showing each other photos/videos of all the flooding around where they live. So glad I'm not down there anymore. Stay safe everyone that is!

One of my sister's friends lives in Ft. Lauderdale, hopefully they're okay. And anyone here living down there please stay safe.

And of course DeSantis doesn't give a fuck.

We had rain in south west Florida for the first time in like 6 months the other day. I forgot how hard it pours when it rains down here. Literal buckets you can't see shit.

Luckily the rain stopped this morning. Most of my area has cleared of the flooding. I think downtown Fort Lauderdale was hit the hardest so it's probably still a little flooded. The airports are open as well now.

The roads in my neighborhood were completely flooded these past couple days pretty much, but now it seems that's mostly been cleared but according to my grandpa, the parking lots of both Winn-Dixie and Publix are still completely flooded so it's impossible for us to go grocery shopping until those clear up.

Miami is my hometown, though I now live out of state. Hoping all my friends, family, and ERA members in the area stay safe.
