Xbox is irrelevant in Europe at this point. PlayStation still going strong despite 2 barren months. August and September will be huge months for PlayStation with Wukong and Astrobot.

Those Xbox numbers are really poor. We already knew the sales were lagging in France.

have we had any credible reports on the region splits for Series S/X to this point? Im curious what they are re: US vs the rest of the world and how that looks compared to previous generations. It really seems like MS has lost of ton of marketshare globally.

I blame that stupid tier system they had for the Xbox One launch. Who on earth calls a major market Tier 2?!

Honestly feels like Xbox isn't making a comeback in the later half of this gen and not next gen either. The brand has lost too much relevance half way through and its only getting worse with time

Feels like? They where never making a comeback. The Xbox brand just is not as big as Nintendo and PlayStation

If someone wants to know if Halo and Gears and Forza will end up on other platforms, I'll point them to stats like this.

at this rate I'd be surprised if retailers in Europe carry Xbox at all a year from now

I will be surprised if MS goes another generation with making a console. Unless MS can make their own version of steamdeck they should just become a giant publisher.

And that's why exclusives make no sense for Microsoft.

To be fair these numbers don't include the UK, which I believe it's a big market for Xbox.

What comeback?
There was never any chance for that.
This outcome was decided years ago.
Not even Microsoft believes anymore in that seeing how they "one more thing" their own games at their own shows.

As Xbox fan in Europe (Lisbon). This is not surprising. I rarely see stocked Xbox Series in stores anymore. It a really rare sight. Just Ps5 and Switch.

These stats don't cover Germany which is still the biggest EU market when it comes to videogames tbf but I doubt Xbox is doing much better there.

Why would it make a comeback when MS has lost interest themselves? No more marketing in EU, no retail presence, the move the multiplat. Nobody is expecting a comeback, least of all MS.

It's clear that Xbox as we know it is dead. The next Xbox hardware will be a Microsoft Surface or Google Pixel of sorts - no exclusives, just a flagship Windows gaming device standard to lead and guide the OEMs.

Adding Germany probably wouldn't do much for Xbox when you look at 1st half of 2023.

Xbox falling completely apart is no news, PS5 loosing 7% in a single month and every ~4th console sold for the year is. Will be interesting to see how much the Pro can course correct for the year.

A pretty bad last gen plus the decision to put all their games day one on pc has led them here.

Seeing as their games are now going to PlayStation too, the next Xbox (if it exists) will sell worse than the Wii U

Other way around - Europe doesn't care about Xbox.
Europe did care a lot about the 360 though. But then the xbox one launch happened. That console was higher priced, was less powerful than the PS4 and it launched almost a full year later in lots of European countries that were considered 'second tier'. On top of that they had made/bought fewer exclusive games in the following years and tried to turn the ship not by offering more exclusive content, but rather by offering more value via Game Pass. The latter obviously didn't pan out the way they hoped.

Nobody cares here in germany. I was in a big electronic retailer a few weeks ago and i had to search for the Xbox stuff. It was never that big to begin with but now it's like 1/20 of what it was during the 360 days. If even that.

Europe cared about Xbox for the first half of its lifetime. As soon as sony got their shit together and MS changed over to "Kinect, Kinect, Kinect" and "Fable/Halo/Forza/gears is enough" it crumbled hard. MS outright forgot or didn't care why people bought a 360 in the first place and thought Kinect would be the next big thing carrying the brand forever.

It'll largely come down to if/when Sony lowers the prices of the models or if the cost of living crisis ends. That, and GTA6 I think (While I bet there'll be an uptick of Xbox Series sales when GTA6 comes out, it'll pale in comparison to what the PS5/PS5Pro is going to sell).

Well no shit.
Europe very much cared for the first few years of the 360, there was a real sense of momentum. Adverts, promotions everywhere, games actually getting localized into a bunch of different languages, good availability and pricing (i remember being shocked that 360 games were cheaper than ps2 games)

And then the kinect era came which was just a total dud honestly, and with that sony was getting their shit together. And then Xb1 basically wasnt even available at launch in most of Europe, and half the features that was advertised about the box were useless outside of the US, plus it was more expensive too than the PS4.

Europe doesnt care about xbox anymore because MS just sorta stopped caring about Europe themselves. And currently Ms just flat out doesnt seem to care about xbox hardware in general. It just sorta exists while its losing relevance in all markets.

They cared because Sonys screwed up a lot and you could get a 360 for 200€ less than a PS3 + that year headstart.

Very special circumstances, that arent gonna be repeated again. If everything is more or less the same, Europe doesnt care for Xbox - especially now with all their games coming to other consoles and PC as well.

Also the 360 launch was nearly 20 years ago, at some point you need to move on for the past. "....but 360... " isnt a valid response when people talk about how the market is receiving XBox nowadays.

My XSX going to be a collectors item at this rate. Kinda sad to see. Microsoft has done a lot of wrong but they were genuinely trying this gen and I think there should be room for three platforms, but probably not.

For too long they made the brand "controller, friends list, Xbox Live, best performing third party games" it felt.

I wonder if they'll ever be able to make people draw a direct line between Call Of Duty and Xbox Game in years to come.

Last year was likely peak sales with consoles finally being available. Without a major release or price drop a ~20% drop is expected. No one should expect the PS5 to match last year's sales even with the Pro.

There is also the factor that a console - that is in absolute final minutes wind down phase yet still holding its own - is just about to launch an actual successor rather than a performance upgrade.
