Physical charts Week 43 First tidbits Ok, UK physical sales are in for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (GfK). Launch sales are 10% lower compared with Modern Warfare 3. This is almost entirely due to a drop in sales on Xbox, which was inevitable with Game Pass. PS5 sales remain steady...

Opening up the comparisons to MW2 is interesting. The MW3 comparisons were always somewhat skewed because it was an iteration that was rushed in a year and a decent portion of players skipped vs BO6 taking 4 years of development time.

The question is if GP covers the 46% of lost copies

This is going to be interesting. The drop in sales is obviously attributed to Xbox GamePass.
Really curious if those 67% in "losses" will lead to a similar number of increases in GP subscribers. Not sure how many CoD copies are usually sold on Xbox, but this must be at least 3-5 million people who usually would buy the game, but might have gotten a GP subscription for this onr.

Cannibalization seen clearly but that won't be a problem depending on how much gamepass increased. The real problem would be if a majority of the people who played it on GP were people who used to be people who bought every CoD while already having GP. That would just be burning money on fire

Playstation is going to do the heavy lifting for the sales for these games from now on with Gamepass in play. Yeah Microsoft ain't eveeeeeeeeeeeeer pulling Activision IPs from Playstation.

Its interesting to me to see the PS5 version actually doing better while the Xbox version actually dropped by twice as much as the PS5 version went up. Are people just jumping shit to the PS5 for their actual game puchases?

74% of all sales on PlayStation... and to think Xbox wanted to make this franchise exclusive.
they didn't?

it's probably WoM and the fact that BO6 seems much better than MW3, so it's logical it would do better than that

Interesting splits. Will have probably boosted GP numbers, but i wonder how many will stay subbed after a few months.

I know a lot of people who signed up for a month's gamepass to clear the campaign and play a little in the multiplayer, it will be very interesting to see if these people will come back in the next few months

Down on PC actually kind of surprises me, wonder if that is true outside of the UK - the Steam Chart numbers (which wouldn't include gamepass) have certainly presented its been doing much better than MWIII did in sales on the platform.

Curious if game pass can hold to a loss of 67% in Xbox physical/digital sales. Will be interesting to see a few months if game pass subs retain or dip.

And yeah, no way Microsoft pulls games from PlayStation. 70% of sales coming from PS for COD is way too massive to miss.

So basically, all those new gamepass subscribers, Microsoft is going to hope that they stay subbed for a few months and/or spend money. If they don't, thing may get interesting next year.

Fascinating times!

probably down in the UK but up in other places. IIIRC it's the highest COD has been besides warzone 2.0's launch

Obviously not right away, but the assumption was that the 3 year deal they offered Sony would mean that after 3 years the franchise would go Xbox.
uhhh no. i don't think anyone expected that.

Concurrent plays for the COD launcher is at its highest since the Warzone 2.0 launch on Steam yeah - the MWII vs BO6 launch windows aren't apples to apples though since the unified app didn't include Warzone at MWII's launch but does now with BO6, so who knows which launch was better there.

Doesn't really matter both clearly did well.

yeah the COD launcher thing makes it really hard to have an exact picture of the game's performance (well, aside the fact that we know it did well and grew 60% on PC over MWIII per microsoft's financials)

This is such an interesting case for GP. The biggest game of the year available for a fraction of the price must lead to some interesting numbers throughout the year. The initial decrease in sales on Xbox is apparent but whether the MTX revenue increases and whether sustained GP subscription revenue increases won't be realized for months. But we'll never know as MS will never share the actual numbers.
