Fae Tactics is part of Humble Choice for the next 2 or so days

Long ago the world of magic was separated from the natural world by Elemental Gates. One day the seal on the gates was broken, flooding the natural world with magical fae creatures once thought to be myths. The worlds merging was imperfect and much of the land was torn apart. The devastation claimed the lives of most of the population of natural and fae creatures alike. Those that survived have forged new lives in the ruins of the old worlds, but growing tension between man and fae threaten to finish what began with the opening of the gates.

In Fae Tactics, follow a young magic user named Peony on her journey across a vibrant world full of mystery and danger. Summon allies, cast spells, and befriend a motley crew of characters as you dive into the growing conflicts between man and magical beings known as fae.

If you like strategy RPGs in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics, you may find this game to your liking, gameplay wise.

The game mixes monster recruiting with strategy rpg and utilizes an element mechanic where some elements are weak or strong against others. The combat and gameplay is standard srpg fare; melee and ranged units with attacking from certain positions or elevations give you offensive bonuses. While the element weakness may seem unappealing to some players, I didn't find it too annoying and difficult to deal with since you are given an idea of the type of enemies you will be battling to prepare beforehand, and going with same elements for most enemies is usually fine.

Your party generally consists of 3 to 6 units; 3 Leaders, whose entire defeat results in a game over, and 3 summon-able monsters whom you can collect and unlock throughout battles in the game.
One thing that I like about the game is the utilization of a min-max stat system, where you get upgrade points when you level up a Leader, so you could put more points into defense or offense to help out in a battle or one that suits your strategy.
The game has a bright and colourful presentation visuals wise and a lovely soundtrack ranging from tense theme for some battles to more soothing tracks during story bits.

Furthermore, melee units positioned next to an enemy will attack that enemy again if another unit attacks it, which can help in taking it out earlier, offering some additional planning to the combat.

The game has nice writing and I like the characters and characterization

Speaking of characters, the game also has secret characters that can be easily missed due to requiring perform a few battles or events at certain locations and dates (thankfully the internet is there to help :V)

As of this writing, I am still about...half way through the game I think? I am going at it on my own pace and enjoying it all the same. So do give it a play if you're in the mood for an FF Tactics or strategy RPG. Enemy levels increase as you progress through STORY missions, so if you're stuck at a battle, doing free battles should help get a couple of levels to be able to match the STORY battle, though I've only ever had issues with this at one battle and have been managing OK with the later parts of the game. In the end its all about utilizing the game's mechanics to come out on top.

It is reportedly coming to Switch next year, which is what I'm waiting for.

The game looks great.

I personally really liked this game for a number of reasons, and it's honestly one of my favorites of the year. It is a strategy RPG but NOT a Final Fantasy Tactics clone, meaning the systems at play work quite differently than the usual job system and equipment stuff. It's actually pretty unique how it mixes primary party members with interchangeable Fae.

While the reviews are mostly positive, there is some criticism that the rules feel a little random at times, but I disagree with that. It takes some learning on the mechanics and generally 'how things work' but you can pretty much always work the game to your favor if you prepare and execute correctly. I believe the developers originally intended to make Fae Tactics a little bit easier for non-SRPG fans to get into, but they did kind of fail at that, because there are some unintuitive mechanics that take some getting used to. It's great once you understand what you are doing, though.

The story stuff is a little bit dryly written at times, but I thought it was nice enough to keep my interest.

It's been on my radar for a while, but the character designs put me off for some reason. Also, Wargroove and Fell Seal are still in my backlog.

Looks pretty in a colorful way and the mechanics seem interesting, but the character art design is a big throw off for me so I'll likely skip it unless it shows up on Game Pass or something similar

I do wish we had more games like FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre and such so I hope they do well with the upcoming ports

Yeah, it takes a while to learn the mechanics, but the rules aren't random. Weaknesses work as intended and it can also be determined from enemy colours even if their element type is sword or purple (blue, red, etc.). In fact just going with the same element as enemies works fine anyways.

I've just started playing this. I'm quite enjoying it. Takes a while before you get new characters though. I'm a bit confused on devices. Do you need to equip them or once you build them are the abilities automatically applied? Can't seem to find much in the way of guides online.
