OP, why not post the game charts over all platforms? Thank you for this! Yes, it's a joke.

PS5 gripping to that 40k baseline. Is Xbox bothering even worth it in Japan for 200-300 units sold per week? Like, the logistics of it?

Nintendomination this week. PS5 sales have gotten stale but consistent.

PS4 vs Xbox Series X and Series S at the same time is the true content worth looking out for.

PS5 software sales are just sad as fuck. Xbox in the "why even bother" range of console sales. Jesus those are some pathetic numbers for Series consoles..

It would not surprise me if a single, Microsoft published title sold more physical copies in Japan versus the combined tally of all PS5 games that made the top 30 (when released). Granted its Minecraft which is evergreen, but let it sink in.

That shows you how dire PS5 sales are in Japan right now.

Also BOTW recharting at #3 is neat to see.

The real fight is PS4 vs Xbox Series. It might outsell it by the end of this year.

I legitimately can't understand how they're selling 32k Disc PS5s and yet no piece of software has moved more than 3421 units in the same week.

Are people reselling them or just so happy with their existing library upressed or do they just really need it for fortnite/Genshin/some other F2P game and anything else isn't worth bothering with?

It'll be a slightly different picture when FFXVI hits. Still, it's safe to say Japan is Nintendoland now.

Truth is probably a combination of every theory, just what is the majority use case is unknown.

As per physical sales, it is really bad. Some folks think there may be only one or even zero PS5 titles on the top 30 this week, so in that scenario you are probably looking that the total amount of physical games sold on the PS5 could be very low, even in the three digits, for the week (if none chart).

I was also wondering this. Has it been like this for a while (haven't been following PS5 software sales in japan)? To sell nearly 40k hardware and not have a single game sell more than 3k units is kind of wild. I know digital is taking off but wouldnt the same be applicable to the Switch also doing well for digital sales and yet their still do pretty decent physical numbers. Are people really just reselling consoles to other countries or something?

Whats the best selling PS5 game physical so far? I wonder if FFXVI is going to do well there.

It has been like this since PS5 release. Only a certain banned game has really moved the needle on the PS5 software sales over there this year. Other titles like RE chart for a week or two, but the PS4 version has much stronger legs so...

Splatoon 3 over 4 million. I really want to know what the worldwide sales are. I have a necro bump depending on where it's at

The question for me is how many weeks will FFXVI even be in the top 10. Three?

The quest to find any Playstation software in top 10 begins anew.
Anyway, BotW is really impressive !

I've lost count how many times Nintendo dominated the top 10 for the entire 7-years Switch run.

The PS5 situation isn't surprising at all considering Sony's software strategy. They're completely focused on the west.

Is FF16 the first PS5 exclusive actually relevant to that market?

Final Fantasy is still a big brand, but it's been steadily losing more and more sales power in Japan over the past decade or so, and FFXV in particular limped hard to get to a million copies. XVI will likely do comparatively fine when put up against the rest of the PS5 catalog, but don't expect too much from it as non-Pokemon/DQ RPGs seldom stick around for more than a couple of weeks.
