We are looking for new development staff for "Dragon Quest XII: The Chosen Flame of Destiny", which was announced today.
This game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, and we are taking on a variety of challenges.
Would you like to take on the challenge of creating a new Dragon Quest with us?
We are looking forward to hearing from you!

I wonder if it will have RTX or DLSS?

NVIDIA RTX, Unreal Engine 5 Define Future of Game Development and Content Creation | NVIDIA Technical Blog

Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) is available in Early Access, delivering the next-generation engine from Epic Games that will further propel the industry forward.

"UE5 represents a generational leap in both workflows and visual fidelity, extending the engine's support for DirectX Raytracing, NVIDIA DLSS, and NVIDIA Reflex, and adding new features such as Nanite and Lumen that make it faster and easier for games to implement photorealistic visuals, large open worlds and advanced animation and physics."

Unreal 5 is confirmed for Switch already.
Unreal Engine 5 works on last gen systems too, as well as mobile, the question is what features are used. If they are going for the full suite of Nanite and Lumen and make the game's visuals around that, it would probably be pretty large in file size and likely impossible to run on a regular switch. I doubt that personally, but we dont have many details yet.
This probably also explains why are they so vague on platforms in general.

They just really want to avoid another NX situation.

so do we think the game is still in early stages of development despite four years since DQ XI original release or are they gonna port what they've currently worked to unreal 5.
Anyway this makes it sound like 2023 could be the earliest release time

As it should be.

UE4 helped DQXI development to go on smoothly plus the game looks freaking amazing.

I'm so much in love with the Unreal Engines since EU4 <3

They're still prototyping or have just finished it. It's absolutely in early dev stages.

Damn this must mean it's pretty far away. In any case, I am sure the visual presentation will be mindblowing, DQ11 vanilla version already looked absolutely stunning.

Development started in 2019 but pandemic + engine changes probably points to a 2023 release.

If it releases in 2023, then it's not safe to assume a switch launch at all. Could well be on the successor

Well that doesn't really tell us much with regards to what platforms it'll be on

I don't see a Switch successor coming out that soon, tbh. Otherwise there wouldn't be much of a point to the Pro later this year if they were gonna replace everything in 2 years time

For those who are asking, we first heard of DQXII under development back in January 2020 saying it is under development since last year 2019.

So don't expect XII to be out before sometimes in 2024.

One can start a project on UE4 and then move it to UE5. Same thing is happening with HellBlade 2.
Also Teams usually move around and help finish other team's projects.

Well if they're going down an iterative approach, you could see a few exclusives on the pro. It may be powerful enough to run last gen games, so we could see some ports of them exclusively on the system.

Would be interesting to see the nanaite thing with that kind of artstyle, but i doubt they go full multi millions triangle for everything.
