Dragon Quest Builders 2 will be subtitled "The God of Destruction Malroth and the Vacant Island" in Japan, the latest issue of Weekly Jump reveals. Its release date and price are still to be announced.

A blurb in the magazine notes that "God of Destruction Malroth" is the name of the evil god that appeared in Dragon Quest II. Regarding whether or not there is a connection, the magazine teases, "Look forward to future reports!"

Weekly Jump also reveals the backstory and Akira Toriyama-illustrated character designs for the male and female protagonists. The protagonist is the descendant of the legendary builder that once saved the world. He or she has the same power to build things as their ancestor, but is still inexperienced. While relying on their "Builder's Book," their goal is to become a full-fledged builder.

The game itself is set on "Vacant Island," a huge, unpopulated island without houses or towns where the protagonist washes ashore, and where they will adventure and build things to create a bustling island. However, on this island where there appears to be nothing, what looks to be a man-made temple can be seen in the mountains.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is in development for PlayStation 4 and Switch.

I would just head for the temple instead of trying to make a bustling island.

Wonder if the game is gonna take place on this single island this time around rather than the disconnected chapters/locations of its predecessor. Could be super neat.

DQ builders 1 was a surprise hit and one of my favorite games last year. Can't wait for this.

I wonder if they'llgo for the whole "Hero lost" angle again like the first one.

So it sounds like it follows the same divergent timeline from the original Builders, just shifting to the next game in line, huh? Interesting!

Since it won't be hobbled by PS3 and Vita, hopefully we will have much larger build areas. The town areas in DQB were just too tiny. I can't wait for this!

The first Builders was great, I'm going to buy the sequel on Switch though. (I didn't want to double dip)

I want this game.

I hope free build has more life to it! I built a huge town but my people didn't populate it much nor well...

The male protagonist is totally with SSJ Goku hair lol

And the subtitle reminded me of Beerus and Super

I loved how Dragon Quest Builders tied itself into the original Dragon Quest, so here's to Dragon Quest Builders 2 continuing the tradition with Dragon Quest 2.

I know the maximum height was raised. That's why they added the glider for when jumping off high points. They added depth too. You can swim and go underwater. Not sure about length and width though.

I'm so looking forward to this. Playing the first on the Switch with my son, and we both are loving it!

I'm so excited to see how they improve on the first game. There's so much potential there.

Thought both protag designs were better in the first game but I'm still hyped as hell.

I'm doing the long, slow play-though of Dragon Quest Builders on Switch right now and enjoying it immensely. I tend to focus on a single game over the course of a week or so in usual play but I've been playing DQB since the day it came out and am still only on chapter 3. It's kind of nice, honestly.

Loving the look of this one. A huge world rather than small islands plus a single line of crafting progression rather than constantly starting over is just what the sequel needs.

Actually playing through the first on Switch right now. I'm never big on "creative" games but I've been totally smitten with this game. Can't wait for the sequel!

Wish the main series also let me play as a female protagonist. Why did they decide to move backwards after 9 and 10?

Really looking forward to this game, I had a great time playing the first one on Switch.

I hope there's better character customization and they let you continuously build one town instead of forcing you to start over several times.

Kinda expecting the Switch version to come much later, but we'll see. Would like it to be day and date if possible, since i'm enjoying the first on it right now.

Because IX and X don't focus on the protagonist's own background and story while XI does. It's an artistic choice and it's not backward by any means.

You get married in DQXI as part of the story.

At some point Square needs to team up with Yuji Hori and just make a Dragon Ball RPG for real.
All the licenses belong to Bandai Namco. As crazy as it sounds, even for mangas that are published by SE themselves such as Full Metal Alchemists, the game adaption licenses belong to Bandai Namco.

So 17 and Goku had a baby after the ToP, cool.

I mean, uh, I don't dislike the designs but they're just DB stuff, I prefer the original Builders'... Well, not a big deal. Looks like this will be DQ2-themed, nice.

The first game was one of my favorite games of the year. :)

I hope that they expand the building space in the sequel. It was far too small in the first game. I also hope that they add a survival mode. I always choose that mode if a game has one.

Toriyama's just phoning it in now. Hopefully we can equip a helmet over that idiotic SSJ hair.

Also kind of confused, isn't it Sidoo/Sidoh in everything other than the newer western localization? Why Malroth?

I still have to get the first on the Vita, but I'm bummed the sequel won't be on it.
