I made this joke earlier and I was disowned by loved ones.
The puns....
A whole lot of this going on:Shame that there are probably a thousand NDAs stopping him from telling the story. Would be quite interesting to read.
Didn't even know Nintendo hired him last year. That's pretty cool but that kind of job wouldn't be for everyone, either. Hope he gets to make another great game soon.
Let's hope no dads were harmed during his time at Nintendo.
No.
Who wouldn't at least try it out if gotten a shot at Nintendo ? It wasn't for him so he moved on.
I just don't get it when Downwell AFAIK is very successful that probably nets him more money than he could ever make at Nintendo. Why wouldn't you want to continue be independent and make whatever you want when you're able to do so.Who wouldn't at least try it out if gotten a shot at Nintendo ? It wasn't for him so he moved on.
Isn't Nintendo considered one of the best companies to work for ? I heard their employees are treated with extreme care
Stable paycheck, being part of a team as opposed to doing everything your self, not at risk of being homeless if your indie game isn't a mega hit. I can totally get why someone might take the leap from indie to working for the machine.
Because having a stable paycheck, being part of a bigger team and working for one of the leading companies in the industry can lead to a more relaxed and pleasant life as opposed to feeling the complete stress of having to everything on your own.Why do you need a stable paycheck when your own creation more than likely grossed over a million dollars and most of it is going into your own pockets?
Because working for a company like Nintendo, especially where he is situated, can net him more connections and experience with industry vets. He's essentially got a direct contact.I guess he's just a huge Nintendo fanboy at heart and couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Wasting a year at Nintendo was probably a wrong decision, considering he quit.Because having a stable paycheck, being part of a bigger team and working for one of the leading companies in the industry can lead to a more relaxed and pleasant life as opposed to feeling the complete stress of having to everything on your own.
But the creator prefers being independent, so all the best. There's no wrong decisions here.
1) you still have all the expenses that went into making a game. If you had to borrow money a lot of that revenue probably doesn't end up in your pocket.
The development of Downwell is actually very interesting, since it was his thirteenth indie project (he was doing a gamejam a week after graduating from an opera school) and only had better exposure when Digital Devolver picked it up for publishing after they saw it in an article about the Japanese indie scene.
I hope he returns to the project. UFO 50 was one of my favorites at PAX West last year.Im curious to see what he does next. He did games for UFO 50 so that'll be the next released thing from him.
I'm sure he'll be in the credits if he made any meaningful contribution.I hope he at least points out which game he worked on once it releases
