I was always more of a fan of the Rankin Bass original, but I like the animated version too. Love the big battle scene towards the end in both.
I was in a play production of this while in high school at a local children's theatre - playing Peter Knook (the crotchety kinda-sorta wood elf) and sometimes young Santa. I had to sometimes feed the actor who played "current" Santa his lines too lol. IIRC, there's a children's book that inspired the animated versions.
