I like his art a lot. It has a simple charm to it and his signature style is instantly recognizable. It doesn't hurt that he does art for different mediums and is seen in a lot of various different works, so it's always nice to boot up a game or watch a show and be like - oh! I know this guy!

I think he's great at taking simple concepts and making them shine with a signature flare that makes them more than the sum of their parts. I mean,

latest

Trunks is basically anime John Connor with a sword, which sounds derivative and simplistic. But there's a soul and undercurrent to his design that makes it appealing.

I also think his creature design is generally great. I love Final Form Frieza and the entire race of people that spawned from that character's concept, as well as the Reptites from Chrono Trigger.

There's something streamlined and "compact" about these designs that really appeals to me.

Do you like his art? What are some of your favorite designs?

Can't get enough of it. His art has naturally changed over the years somewhat but i can still recognize it from a mile. Love it.

The best thing about Toriyama's art is his panelling. If people have never read the Dragon Ball manga they should. There's a fluidity to his panels that a lot of other manga just don't get

I fucking love them. It was his art that drew me to Chrono Trigger back in the day, long before I was ever aware of Dragon Ball Z, and that led me to RPGs.

I think Dragon Quest XI has some of his best work. The man's still got it.

Character? Probably Saiyan Saga Vegeta. Just one of the greats of all time, and a really awesome subversion of the idea that bigger=stronger.

Non-DB character? MAGUS. Design is awesome, down to the color scheme and scythe weapon.

Technology? Probably this:

So simple, so effective. It's iconic!

I like what it used to look like back in the 80s and early 90s.

Yeah toriyama was great in the 80s, started declining a bit by the 90s and now is just coasting on his fame and his new art sucks.

I really like his style.
I feel like his designs have become more and more derivative over the years, but the good stuff is really good

My favorite Design is probably Friezas' final Form or Piccolo.

I love the way he draws reptiles and machines. The lizards and dinosaurs he draws have so much personality. Their faces are just expressive. It's great.

I think the main reason I like it is because it makes me nostalgic. His artstyle is immediately recognizable and it instantly takes me back to being a kid watching DBZ after school every day.

He's definitely one of the GOAT cartoonists. His crowning jewels might be the DQIII class art:

Back in the 80s he was on fire - in the 2000s his style branched out in ways I don't care for, but the last few years I think he's found a good groove. I really, REALLY loved Jaco, for example. It has a kinda chibi style, very toyetic... I think that's where he's at his best, cute but not cutesy.

Yes.

It's clean but versatile.

Cute characters look cute.
Powerful characters exude power.
Sexy characters are sexy as hell.

And they all look to live in the same cohesive world.

1. Bunny girl Bulma.
2. Saiyan saga football armor Vegeta.
3. Early DBZ svelte Piccolo.
4. Bright blue chain armor Vegeta.
5. Kid Chichi.
6. Belly dancer Bulma.

I think his monster designs are still great.

It's great but ironically I find Dragon Ball to be some of his worst work in comparison to his other stuff.

Slime is the GOAT.

I love his old Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest art...my favorite stuff is how he used to draw vehicles, they are always this great combination of both sophisticated and compact.

As a Dragon Quest fan, I am a massive fan of Akira Toriyama and I would say I am more of a fan of the monsters throughout the various DQ games. I just think of the cool bosses such as Hargon, Shido, Zoma, Baramos, Gema, the Dragon God King from VIII both human and monster forms and on and on.

is the whole thing available in color?? where can i buy this digitally

It's complete but only in Japan. Viz has started it but sadly at the Saiyan arc and not at the beginning of th manga. To make it even worse only the Saiyan and Freeza arcs are complete so far and they have been extremely slow at putting more out. I don't think they are available digitally in the US at least but i could be wrong on that.

Everything from early Dragon Ball is my favorite. I have so many fond memories of going to the library and sketching out copies of his drawings.

I don't care much for his modern style honestly.
Still a huge fan of his, I try to make my art as cute and flashy as Dr Slump and Dragon Ball.

Characters specifically: Trunks, DB Bulma, Piccolo, Robo, Frog are my favorites.

I find a lot of his human characters somewhat samey looking though. Overall I think I like how he does technology the most interesting.

His old stuff is timeless. His newer work isn't as great, but when someone picks up and runs with it (see Super anime on the good episodes & the Broly movie), it shines.

Didn't like it at first and it's taken 20 years but I think I like most of it now. I prefer his earlier stuff around the pre-Z Dragonball.
