Launch date announcement at the Game Awards is a lock if that's true.

No way... i heard that this game was going far smoother than past kojima projects, but this is way too fast.

Or may be Death Strading is, after all, a game with an scope not as big as the MGs in their time.

Keeping a lot of the gameplay related stuff on the low.

I like the secrecy if it means we get something good out of it.

i doubt its 'close', probably just that all the pieces are in place to be messed with until they got it how they like it

add an extra year for kojima to stuff it with all sorts of kojima bullshit as well

I feel that we'll get a real good look at the game now at the Game Awards. I'm hopeful for a release window soon. I'm thinking Q4 2019 might be a reality.

Not necessarily. What it signals to me is that they've finished recording principle animation with the actors/actresses and are now refining all the elements after creating and compiling it. Kojima being nuts on details means they could be spending a lot of time on this part however.

Maybe it'll be a small game at launch and then more content will be added over time. Or maybe Kojima likes to start polishing games super early. We'll see I guess.

How did they make a game in two years? This must have a smaller scope than expected.

I call bullshit. All we've seen thus far are random vertical slices of the same part of the game. This is still two to three years off.

i wonder if he's gonna pull another "every single person on the team has to come up with and implement a feature/easter egg in the game"

They've shown you what they want to show you. You could be right about the timeframe but basing it off "what we've seen" is meaningless.

Especially after the constant post-MGSV footage shitposting where the entire internet would whine about having seen the 'entire game' already.

I would keep your expectations in check here people. God of War was in a similar situation....in 2016, where Barlog said the game was fully playable internally. Obviously God of War saw release in 2018 even with that being true. So, although that is good news, it doesn't mean the game is anywhere remotely close to release.

Maybe the core mechanics and design are finished but I imagine the game still needs so much work. I don't think we're close.

Cory Barlog said he played a full playthrough of God of War in December 2016 and the game came out in April 2018!

I'm a bit skeptical, MGSV took 4 years. DS didn't even have an engine until late 2016, so a 2019 release would mean a sub 3 year development with a likey not insignificant chunk of the time being spent on learning the Decima engine. Obviously they didn't have to build a new engine from scratch like V,,but they also had to go through the all the new studio shenanigans.

Yeah, this probably doesn't really seem like it tells us anything about how close it is or how much big work is left just that it's making good progress, which is still great news. And this is clearly still a huge game like we'd expect from Kojima that they are making given the level of stuff we've seen in the trailers so far.

Kojima / MGS is my favorite dev / series.

I really hope this is good.

Praying the gameplay is legit.

I wonder if this game is going to be, like, shorter than any of us expected. But then that doesn't really make sense when Troy Baker just said it's huge.

Not sure what to think.

It sounds like the game is "complete" in the sense that he's played all the way through it, but there's a ton of work that comes after that. "Polishing" is nebulous here, but it certainly doesn't mean most of their work left is pre-launch QA or anything. Not when the game has hardly even been shown.

There's no way it's releasing next year but 2020 is looking more and more likely. It's still crazy to me that they showed off so much of the world at E3 when the game hadn't even been in development for two years yet.
