OT's aren't supposed to go up more than three days before launch. PM a mod or report this OT when it's within that time frame and we can unlock it

Been playing this for three hours or so. Never played the PSP game.

It's been really weird. A modern looking game in a skeleton of a PSP game. Results in a weird mis-match that makes it fascinating but also a strange thing to play. Type-0 HD felt like a more natural remaster iirc.

Been enjoying it so far though!

Thanks for the OT!
I'm gonna wait to see if the PC version is solid before buying this week. I hope it's not a mess!

It took me a while to get past that in my brain, but once I did, stuff clicked again. The combat's great fun.

Type-0 came out a couple of years after CC and featured a kinda more console-like experience with towns and a world map, which I guess made the HD version feel a bit more natural. CC is kinda weird in that it's mostly like a mission based RPG so I always imagined the remaster would feel kinda odd in a modern age.

Thank you for the OT.

Finally will be able to play this officially on a big sized TV , the timing of this Remaster is perfect and so happy didn't get it earlier as I always wished.

I asked for this for Xmas so will get to it in a couple of weeks. Interested to see how folks who didn't play the original respond. It's going to be a weird experience in some ways but as noted above the battle system does a lot of work here.

Will be nice to see all the weird minigames again. The missile slashing, squats, and the waterfall to name a few. They might even be voiced now!

The only Final Fantasy I ever player was the 7 Remake. A friend which honestly is usually pretty right about what I like/dislike told me the gameplay mechanics of this one are different/outdated and that maybe I wouldnt enjoy this. What is the opinion of other people here? Should I buy this considering I really liked FF7R or not because it doesn't play the same way?

Like a lot of the compilation, Crisis Core was yet another bit of unneeded 'filling in' that I personally could have done without. The fact that it's the better installment out of the lot doesn't change this fact. And I detest Genesis. With a passion.

However, the gameplay and revisiting the world was enough to keep me engaged. I doubt I'll get this full price, but on a sale, definitely will.

It's quite different from 7R. They've modernized the combat a little from the PSP original, but it's still very much that game. The skeleton of the game has been mostly untouched - it's really just the presentation that has been given a fresh coat of paint in Unreal Engine with assets more in line with 7R.

I think Crisis Core is pretty fun and its handheld roots make for a pretty breezy experience that never tries to hold you for too long. Missions are short, in-and-out affairs. If you want more of the VII universe, I'd say go for it, but maybe watch some gameplay footage to get a feel for what the game is, first.

I know OG crisis core had a turn based system, is this game turn based as well or did they adapt it to FF7R system? I know they said menu based combat and said they added the second style cloud has in FF7R, but I haven't seen a definitive answer either way

CC was always an action RPG but you chose attacks from a menu. The combat itself was a bit weird in that there were pretty long delays between attacks, which they changed to make it more fluid and faster.

They could have easily had a 120 mode on PS5/XSX as well. And the PS4 Pro/X1X should have been able to achieve 60. 🤦‍♂️

Been enjoying my time with it so far. I've played the PSP version but I don't remember if I ever beat it or saw everything.

Combat has been fun and fluid on the PS5.

got the pre-order in and ready to go.

Really looking forward to this one as a lifelong FF7 fan. I had it on PSP but couldn't get into it, so I hope this follows the tradition of Peace Walker and BBS of ports I've really enjoyed on console but not handheld.

I remember very little about the PSP version other than bouncing off it instantly.

I'm hoping I'll fare better this time around, but I really need to look into the combat before paying for it. What I see happening in gameplay videos looks much more fun than I recall it feeling like to actually play.

It's very different. Also, it's extremely spoilery if you don't know where Rebirth is going.

oh it's Open! I'm excited to play this too so I'm just as hype you all, will be diving into it later next week!

Just wanted to say that since not many players have played this before, please put Spoiler Tags if you are talking specific plot points. I could also create a basic Spoiler OT if you want to continue that discussion. My preference is that we rather contained it here with Spoiler Tags.

Genesis is legit one of the worst characters in all of FF.

Only thing holding me up from grabbing this are the complaints about the high encounter rate. It's been decade since I've played CC but I don't remember the encounter rate being all that bad...then again I forgot it even had random encounters. If the new combat improvements make battles pretty quick though it may not be that much of an issue.

I really can't wait to get stuck into this. Probably my favourite PSP game and I haven't played it since it first came out in the UK.

Only one of two PSP games I ever beat back in the day but I barely remember it. I just have this vague hole of "I liked this a lot when it first came out," and I know it absolutely made Zack my favorite FFVII universe character.

Wonder if it still holds up. I liked VII Remake a lot and want to revisit this to see how much bearing it has on the Remake saga now.
