not quite sure if this is what people on ERA Who have followed this more closely expected, but saw it pop up on twitter and thought it'd be of importance to some of y'all.

Considering the performance hit (4K/30fps or 1080p/60fps), I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Sad, it didn't take long for Series S too loose on of the more talked about next gen graphical features we've been excited for.

That's a shame, but I don't really blame them considering their solution isn't really optimized for the hardware that much yet going off of the PS5/XSX resolutions with RT enabled.

I hope this won't be a constant thing throughout the generation, and that it's just a matter of the switch from XDK to GDK and a new hardware set without the ability to fully optimize, but it probably will. Still, if games run well throughout the generation I won't see a problem

This tweet makes it sound like the game will render at 4K with RT. That's quite the jump from 1080p on PS5.

The lack of RT on the Series S version is expected I guess.

They have four different video support modes included:

-Native 4K with RT on at 30fps
-Native 4k with RT off at 60fps
-1080p with RT on at 60fps
-1080p with RT off at 120fps
Oh thanks. I didnt understand the tweet. As a 2060 owner I know RT is expensive but damn at going from 4k to 1080p

And gross at the 30fps mode haha

That's a nice set of options. For this particular game I'd probably go for the 1080 -> RT -> 60 mode. Maybe switch to the 4K 60 after a while to see the difference between RT/no RT.

Damn. Game must be really demanding. Watch Dogs does RT on both Series consoles iirc.

Anyone with experience playing games with ray tracing knows the Series S was gonna be on a game by game basis in regards to this particular graphical setting, it was never just a "res drop" in comparison to Series X

Wait huh? Why do they have to patch it in for Xbox? PS5 is getting Ray Tracing day one right?

tweet makes it sound like Series S has a 120fps mode, probably not though. the missing rtx could be down to them not wanting to spend more resources than necessary on it, the game wasn't exactly well optimized for Xbox One either.

It begins. I was looking at the Series S today to possibly preorder, but if the hardware is this gimped, I might just have to look into getting a Series X.

if this is the same for both XSX and PS5, I guess why the tweet specific for Xbox? Just to share the details about Series S?

to let series S owners know that they won't have that feature.
------

I'm guessing that couldn't find a way to include a 60fps w/ raytracing mode on the Series S they didn't bother with it at all.

Not good, this could lead to devs not wanting to rely on ray tracing too much for next-gen exclusive games, because they also have to implement traditional lighting for Series S game versions, which would eliminate one of the big advantages of ray tracing (less dev resources needed).

As someone who preordered a Series S I'm a little worried here. I expected games down the line to have this stuff happen...but not a "remaster" of a 2019 game.

They will have to implement traditional lighting for PC.

Out of the five features they're adding to 5SE, one doesn't work on an entire console. Oof. 5SE is getting more and more monkey's paw the more we learn about it.

Has DMC ever been 30 FPS before?
