The Next Gen versions of Borderlands 3 run at 4k60fps in Resolution mode and 1080p 120fps in Performance Mode.

This wasn't included in any of the marketing for some reason. Nor is it listed as a feature for next gen on the Gearbox website.

But the game does run at 120fps on Next Gen when set to performance mode. I have tested it on my PS5 & LG C9 and can confirm it's at 120fps.

How does 2-player splitscreen run? 🤔
Has lots of drops in the 4K mode but is solid in the 1080p mode. Four player split screen is also a solid 60FPS in the 1080p mode from what I could test. This is on Series X. Really wish the game used a dynamic resolution so that the two player split screen could be 60 without needing to drop all the way down to 1080p.

This game is now on my game night list for sure it's great for local coop. Each users FoV settings even carry into split screen, there's no black bars, the graphics aren't nuked into oblivion, it's fantastic. Wish I could say the same for Black Ops CW.

Sounds good, thanks. Hope it runs well on PS5 too! Will mess around with the different settings and see what feels better for me :)

locked or Up to 120?

I won't believe it until I see it.. that game lacks optimization big time.

Guess it's time to pick up Borderlands 3 when I see it going in sale. Tried out a demo on my PS4 Pro but the performance wasn"t great. A locked 60fps or even 120 fps will make me play it.

Playing in Res mode on Series X and its a night and day difference from One X. BL3 is not a crazy Twitch shooter, so 60 is fine for me.

I mean is it meant to be transferable which I assume it is as you moved your character.

Yeah I don't get it. I uploaded my saves to the cloud through psn. And I also uploaded my character using the in game option.

ohwell. Starting over isn't the worst. New trophy list too!

I'm surprised we got a new set of trophies! Also the adaptive triggers.

Resolution mode is finally playable. It was a damn mess on PS4 pro.

Agreed, was playing this on my One X and stopped half way through Guns, Love and Tentacles. Picked it back up after my Series X arrived and it feels so much better to play.

game runs questionably even on an RTX 3070 and i7 10700k at 1440p, and NOT even on max settings.

Like it averages high framerate, above 100, but there's moments especially with particle effects up close where it can drop to 30-40 fps. This gets much worse with endgame gear and enemies because the intensity of everything gets turned way up.

so im really curious how the consoles actually do when it comes to framerate stability

Max settings and those poor drivers running on DX 11 or DX 12 are the main problem with the PC Version.

For my perspective, one of the worst performances on Unreal Engine 4 for PC.

Running at medium/high settings (pretty sure on of the volumetric options should be on medium since it kills performance) shouldn't be a problem if optimized for next gen consoles.

By the way.... 1080p helps a lot. I can get 1080p/100 fps-ish at reasonable settings with my GTX 1070.

Edit1: Some stupid tech stuff to show that its possible at 1080p with medium/high settings

Can I run Borderlands 3 with GTX 1070 and Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz at Ultra Quality ? 1080p, 1440p, Ultrawide, 4K Performance Benchmarks - GPUCheck United States / USA

We benchmark Borderlands 3 with GTX 1070 and Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz at Ultra Quality Settings to determine if you can run it smoothly

I'm torn between wanting to see the improvements but really having zero interest in touching Borderlands 3 again.

Read this exact same post on Reddit this morning...like the EXACT same (usernames don't seem to match). We need a real confirmation of this because I'm highly doubtful of such performance for this particular game. So take this with a grain of salt as of now.

Ok, since I have the LG C9 and Borderlands 3 installed and patched I booted up the console to test it and I can confirm it. It is in 120fps if you put it to performance mode.

And first test felt 100% stable with VRR activated on Xbox Series X.

You need to install the PS4 version of Borderlands 3 on your PS5 then hit the new 'upload save' button in the main menu. Then on the PS5 version you need to hit 'download save'. It's super confusing that it doesn't just pull down your PS Plus cloud save on the PS5 version.

Great, thanks for reporting in! This is actually huge if they managed to pull off this kind of performance.

hope they bring these optimizations to the PC version, it's really heavy and hard to run well for some reason

Are there any videos of people running tests of the console experience online?? I can't find any myself.

Hm weird. I could swear that I read/watched the announcement somewhere.

In fact, even ordered Borderlands 3 after reading the announcement. It was only a tenner. But I don't like Borderlands lol, maybe 120 will change that

I LOVE 120fps in all games I've tried, but it BL3 it's the one game where I'll pick Resolution, it goes too low in resolution for me.

That's exactly what I did. Sorry I wasn't very clear. I downloaded my borderlands 3 save from the pscloud but it wasn't compatible with my ps5 version. So I loaded up BL3 on the PS4 and did the upload character process in there. And when I try to download the character on the ps5, the game crashes and asks to send an error report.

I did just buy the game on Xbox to try this out but the lack of any ability to transfer my save from PC really makes me unwilling to do more than that.

The resolution is just too fuzzy to play at 120hz for me but, damn, it's smooth as hell. The 60fps mode doesn't seem that smooth, with some hitching here and there; but maybe that's just me.

It's the upgrade that impresses me most of all the next gen upgrades. I had just bought the game and played 4-5 hours of it on the One X and when I made the jump to Series X I was floored by how smooth and crisp it was. For me, it's a whole new Borderlands.

Check the time stamps. I posted first. Seems like they copied my post lol.

Digital Foundry uses this forum right? Is anyone able to tag them and let them know? Would be interesting to see a detailed breakdown on how it performs.

There is 0 mention of a 120fps mode in any of the official marketing/information for the game. Which is quite bizarre. Since it's there in the final game.

Mechanically for sure, but the map design, quests, and of course every line of dialogue is wretched.

There was no excuse for this to have all of the same issues as BL2 after spending so much time in development
Borderlands 2 used to be the best Borderlands until 3 came along on next gen. I have to disagree with everything you point out as being terrible...Opinions I guess.

Ehh the writing for the main game is definitely a step below BL2, but gameplay, map design and side quests are much better. As usual the sidequests provide more insight on the characters and world, especially with the Dahl corporation.

But yeah, if anyone in this thread has one of the TCL 6-series TVs can you say how the 120fps looks on it?

I started this for the first time this morning and didn't realize it wasn't simply a patch but an entirely different SKU 🙄 on PS5!!! Sigh. Does it work like that on Xbox or does it use the smart delivery thing?
