I actually think his design is pretty badass/frightening. I like how his clothing was basically the battlefield for the final boss lol

One of the best boss fights in FF.

And just an aside but he is not the Creator of the FFXIII universe. He's just a jealous godlike creature who usurped power from his mother, and let his creations ruin the entire universe while trying to find a way to keep his world 'perfect'.

I remember theorizing and reading all the datalogs in XIII and XIII-2 that foreshadowed that he would appear. It was amazing how interested I was at the time. Nobody would read those lore fragments at the time out of my group of friends hah. But yeah he was a fantastic final boss especially if you do the reading like me. Actually, I love LR's ending so much too.

What did I think of him as a boss? Fantastic design and OST but you have to keep in mind that I was really excited at the time. The Lore of XIII impressed me and I wish FFXV's lore could have been more elaborated on too.

I love the final boss theme. It's a beautiful disaster, basically summing up the Lightning Trilogy.

I was so completley overleveled for this boss fight and i still got annihilated. Took me a few tries, but there's definitely a rhythm to that boss fight that puts it above most RPGs in my opinion. Really great stuff.

Much better than the pope. Caius was the best XIII villain though.

I never noticed his name's written on each of his... horn things. Who wears their own name like that. What a nerd.

I'm not a fan of "chaos" and especially how it's utilized in XIII-2 and LR, but I love the lore of XIII. Some of the sequel lore was interesting, too, though.

I like LR's ending as a flashy light show, but writing-wise it was completely nonsensical

I disagree with this so much. I can't stand Caius. His design, his voice, his lines; all completely insufferable. Hammiest character I've ever seen. I never understood why people liked him.

The fight is replaced by a harder version, if you've completed the secret dungeon, in all further replays.
Probably the hardest boss in the series, excluding some hardcore XI and XIV stuff.
Had to switch to easy mode to clear the fight and get to my next NG+.

I just find the whole controlling god thing kinda boring. Plus villains that don't show their face until the last minute, especially the last minute of a trilogy, annoy me. Lightning needed a rival and Caius filled that role pretty well imo.

Also pink vs. purple. <3

I prefer boss fights with a bit more emotional and personal connections to the hero, no matter how extravagant their costumes are.

In fact, they did make a sprite version of it for other side games/mobile games:

He's got a really cool design. If only the XIII games had had better stories that actually built him up as the big bad instead of having forgettable stories that relegated him to the data logs. When I got to him in LR, I didn't give a shit about him or the story.

I remember hearing that name pop up in the lore of the series, but I never got to the end of XIII-3. One day I will play it through to the end, because the gameplay is good

I never did finish the game, I remember finishing whatever the first set of quests and then just stopping the game.

I'm pretty much here with you. Hated the FFXIII series. Bhunivelze looks like a standard, fitting "final boss" of a FF game, but that's about it.

That was a fuck up, IMO. Final boss battles should always be a "build-up" to a more spectacular form, not start off with the cool form, then revert to a dinky little thing.

I can never get over his stunt suit design. I've also been vocal about HATING (spoilers to FFXII, FFXIII-2, World of FF, and maybe FFXV)
... final bosses that are somehow Bahamut or Bahamut-types. FFXII's Undying is basically Vayne fused with Sky Fortress Bahamut to become "techno-organic Bahamut Man". Vayne turns into THREE Bahamuts. World of FF's final boss is another Bahamut-type. The extended story to FFXV was going to have a final battle against Bahamut where Ardyn and Luna join Noctis. Enough of that shit.
