If you have played and modded Skyrim for any amount of time, you might have heard of the massive modding project that is Beyond Skyrim. This is a multi-team mod project with the goal of expanding the borders of the game world - you guessed it - beyond Skyrim, adding entirely new provinces from Tamriel to Skyrim's game world for you to explore. Each mod features reimagined provinces with all-new quests and storylines, in huge areas with residents with their own unique dialogue, stories and routines.

About:
Beyond Skyrim is, put simply, a series of interlinked, fan-made unofficial expansion packs for TES V: Skyrim which will eventually allow players to visit every corner of Tamriel, the fictional continent on which the Elder Scrolls games are set. Much of the appeal of this series lies in the deep and fascinating backstory of their universe, which is full of stories about the eight other countries beyond the borders of Skyrim. Many of these have never been featured in a single-player Elder Scrolls game since TES I: Arena. Our goal is to change all that. When Beyond Skyrim is completed, if you talk to the Khajiit merchants outside Markarth and get curious about their homeland of Elsweyr, you will actually be able to hike south across Cyrodiil and visit the place. Or, for that matter, visit the deserts of Hammerfell or the ash wastes of Morrowind. And we even plan to cover a few noticeable regions beyond Tamriel!

Jro7CyS.jpg

This requires modding on a huge scale, with a separate dedicated team working on each country. Landscapes need to be shaped, cities need to be built, scripts need to be programmed, and hundreds of lines of dialogue and in-game books need to be written. Each country will feature new architecture, a different culture, and of course a whole host of different dungeons to explore, activities and quests to complete, and weapons, armor, and items to loot, buy and sell. The objective is to make each country a brand new experience for even the most jaded of Skyrim players. It may sound ambitious, but we are making steady progress towards our goals.

Main WIP Projects:

Cyrodiil: The Seat of Sundered Kings
Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil adds the entirety of the Imperial Province of Cyrodiil to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as a fully-explorable 'expansion-style' region. Your adventure will see you explore sprawling wilderness, bustling cities and perilous dungeons as you complete epic, all-new quests. An all-new adventure awaits.

Morrowind: The Star-Wounded East
Venture to Morrowind, a vast and alien land that has suffered greatly at the hands of fate. Lose yourself in the complicated politics of the plotting Houses of the Dunmer, discover the strange and beautiful life that makes its home in the east, or uncover the secret histories that lie beneath the ash. Rediscover the lands of the east, reimagined and rebuilt in the 4th Era by a passionate and dedicated modding team.

Roscrea: Voices of the Deep
Journey north into the stormy embrace of the Sea of Ghosts to a land of untold treasure. A land once known only as a whisper. A land called Roscrea. Forget the ills of your past, and the judgements of people you will long to forget. Wipe the slate clean and see for yourself a world frozen in time. Make with haste fair traveller, for the winds of change wait for no soul.

Other WIP Projects:

Iliac Bay: Tower of Dawn
Iliac Bay is a project to make the provinces of High Rock and Hammerfell. It is a merger of the previous projects High Rock: The Direnni West and Hammerfell: Forge of Warriors. Explore the legendary streets of Sentinel in Hammerfell, experience the rugged beauty of Orsinium or find adventure in the City of Daggerfall. The team for Iliac Bay is working hard to bring the lands of Hammerfell and High Rock to life.

Black Marsh: The Roots of the World
The swamps of the southeast are stirring. Cross the border into one of the strangest lands on the surface of Nirn, the home of the Saxhleel, the lizardfolk, and the graveyard of anyone unprepared for the deadly swamps. Black Marsh is a land of alien beauty, populated by a people embittered by millennia of oppression. Help guide them to power and unity, or exploit their divisions for your own gain. The marshes are calling, and through the hard work of a dedicated modding team, you can answer.

Atmora: Expedition to the North
The shadows of the past reach beyond the Sea of Ghosts. They are hiding dark memories, shrouded in mystery. Do you have the courage to unveil them? Would you risk your life to embark on an adventure into unknown territory? To a place said to be more hostile and desolate than any other? If so, welcome on board, traveler. The expedition awaits.

Elsweyr: Sugar and Blood
Cross the border into the Aldmeri Dominion, and visit the Khajiiti kingdoms of Anequina and Pelletine, a diverse series of landscapes that ranges from nomad-travelled steppes to tropical rainforest. Undertake a deeply personal, perhaps even spiritual, journey to the deep south of Tamriel as your character gets immersed in the culture and mindset of the Khajiit nation and joins in their fight against an extremely subtle and insidious enemy.

Beyond Skyrim: Bruma
Travel beyond the borders of Skyrim, and visit Bruma, the northmost county in Cyrodiil. Discover what has become of the city's residents since the events of Oblivion in all-new adventures and storylines. Plunge into the depths of ancient Ayleid ruins. Explore an expansive region larger and denser than the Dragonborn DLC. In Beyond Skyrim: Bruma, the choices - and their consequences - are yours alone. Rediscover Frostcrag Spire, Cloud Ruler Temple, Frostfire Glade and many other legendary locations. The journey back to the Heartland begins now. Are you prepared?

FAQ:
What is Beyond Skyrim?
Beyond Skyrim is many things – it has been described as a mod, a community, a framework, a family of projects, and a support group. All of these are arguably true. We provide a place where Skyrim modders can meet each other, work together and exchange the fruits of their experience. We are organised into several autonomous teams, but we all have one final goal in common – to create a series of mods which will fit together into one seamless experience for our end users, allowing them to travel through all of Tamriel.

Seriously? All of Tamriel?
The mission we have set ourselves is to recreate as much of Tamriel as we possibly can. Whilst our ultimate goal will always be the completion of every corner of the continent, we believe it is equally important to focus on creating quality content in each area we work on. Therefore, even if we never reach our final destination, in the process we will be certain to create some of the largest, most intricate and, we hope, the most enjoyable mods ever created for any TES game.

Wait, I'm a little confused. Are you one big project, or several?
Beyond Skyrim is a group of several autonomous teams, which for various reasons decided to pool together aspects of their administration and decision-making processes. You can think of us as being a bit like a federal state – we have a central Council which has powers determined by our Charter, and exists to make the big decisions that affect all of our projects equally. But we also have a separate "local" leadership for each Project, each of which is essentially independent in terms of its day-to-day operation. There is, of course, extensive overlap and daily collaboration between the teams, as we work together to ensure that resources and expertise are shared, and our lore and plotlines tie neatly together. If you are interested in learning more about how our system developed, you can read about our history here.

When is it going to be finished?
We are under no illusions that this will be a very long-term project. All of our members are volunteers, and so naturally the speed of our progress will vary according to the amount of free time that our members are willing and able to contribute. As such, we do not think it is appropriate to propose hard deadlines or timelines for release. We are, however, considering the possibility of releasing our Provinces in stages, making part of each area available at a time. If we do so, each area may get its own estimated completion date, so watch this space!

How are you going to organize your releases?
Our current plan is that areas of each of the Provinces will be released early as standalone "teaser" mods which will provide players with a foretaste of the final product. The first of these is Beyond Skyrim's Bruma, which will offer players the chance to explore the northernmost region of Cyrodiil. Further details will be announced on our Developers' Blog in due course.

What about compatibility with other mods?
Beyond Skyrim is so enormous in scope, and affects so many areas of the base game, that conflicts with some of the countless other mods created for Skyrim is inevitable. That said, it is our policy to do what we can to advise 3rd party modders who approach us on how they can ensure that their work is compatible with Beyond Skyrim. However, the ultimate responsibility for ensuring compatibility will have to lie with them, as there are far too many mods out there for us to be able to patch our release for every single one.

What about Elder Scrolls lore?
The lore (or backstory and literature) of the Elder Scrolls series is the foundation of everything we do, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards in making sure that our work is consistent with it. Nevertheless, the manner in which Bethesda has depicted areas and cultures has varied greatly between installments in the series (compare Solstheim between TES III and TES V, for instance), and we do not feel ourselves bound to replicate design decisions which were made as a result of game engine or graphical limitations as they were depicted in previous games.

There are lots of information on features and what to expect for each project on the links. I'll add more information here on each substantial progress for the projects.

I haven't had the chance to run through Bruma yet, but it's always interesting to see how far these type of mods go.

It would be humorous if Iliac Bay was released before TES6 though.

Will we see the day all these mods get released, and are compatible with each other?

It's been some years I haven't played Skyrim, guess I'll come back when Cyrodiil and Morrowind projects are finished :D

I bet we get Skyblivion and Skywind before Beyond Skyrim's full releases but all projects will be a nice stream of content until TES VI comes out, although I expect Cyrodiil is the only full province that will come out before TES VI, but the pre-releases will be nice.

Also here's a overhead of landscaping progress of all provinces. Keep in mind this isn't a good way to gauge progress in a project as a whole as there's quest writing, design, 3D modeling, etc that still needs to be done. Also Summerset and Valenwood aren't current projects and Black Marsh is in pre-production.

Great thread, thank you OP! Whenever I dig up something related to Beyond Skyrim, I'm always torn if this really deserves a separate thread. So having a dedicated thread for all Beyond Skyrim news is much welcomed and appreciated.

Btw. Morrowind team recently announced their new "Bruma-like" release called "The New North".

Each of Beyond Skyrim projects has their own separate team that is working on it. Every project is set in a new worldspace and has only a minor alterations in Skyrim worldspace (areas around borders or carriages to new lands), so they will be compatible with each other.

It's hard to say whenever they will release full projects, but they also have smaller projects similar to Bruma with a smaller fracture of land. They recently announced two projects like this - Morrowind: The New North and Three Kingdoms (set in High Rock and Hammerfell).

Elsweyr and Cyrodiil share a world space, Valenwood is part of it too technically but it'll have a barrier since it's not a project.

I was aware of this, but forgot to mention that fact. Good catch, though.

I've heard that Elsweyr team merged with revamped Moonpath to Elsweyr project. I'm quite interested how this project will differ from original linear version of Moonpath.

Yeah, their aim is to incorporate everything together in Skyrim. So if you want to go to Cyrodill, you can simply travel there from Skyrim border, and so on.

Iliac Bay team just released a recording of their latest stream showing some landscaping done for High Rock and Hammerfell. Didn't watched the whole thing, but it looks really good. They done a lot of outstanding stuff with level design in that province. City of Jehanna is especially impressive.

Their latest stream showing off more Cyrodiil, some Elsweyr, et al. Environmentally, this is looking doggone amazing and hell; it may very well come out at this rate, suckahs. All the best to the team for trucking on.

They get to Roscrea later on as well.
