My white whale that I never thought would get an HD release finally did this year from Criterion. If you've never seen Defending Your Life, just blind buy it. I watch it at least once a year. And the new scan is great!!

I had Tremors 4k in my cart but needed something to get free shipping. Added Citizen Kane 4k pre-order. So thanks op.

You're welcome! I forgot to mention that Arrow Video was 50% off too, but I just added it to the OP.
I spend too much during these criterion sales. I've already vowed not to double dip on the 4k versions if I already have it. And I really want that Once Upon a Time set but that same day Mad Max 2 and 3 and Ran, all in 4k coming out too. Just need to remind myself they do this twice a year and I can get it next sale.

"We're sorry, international shipping is currently unavailable for this promotion."

is this new? haven`t ordered there in quite a while. Maybe Covid/shipping related?

IIRC they removed international shipping I think last year because of the pandemic, not sure when they're planning to start it again.

Damn, The Red Shoes isn't discounted.

The Red Shoes is released in December so it's outside the sale window.

I am the same way, and fortunately I got more than enough in the last July sale to keep me busy. I'm probably going to limit myself this time to the 4K releases of Citizen Kane and Menace II Society and the Melvin Van Peebles box set. I may end up getting Once Upon a Time in China too though.

Ohhh you can pre-order Mulholland Drive 4k too at half price. Nice.

All the 4K releases are included as long as the release date is before the end of the sale (11/29). So Mulholland Drive, Citizen Kane and Menace II Society are included, but The Red Shoes is not.

Interesting, all the ones i wanted are the same price at Amazon. Meance ii Society is $34 at Amazon compared to $29 at B&N. Shipping kind of offsets it, welp

Mulholland Drive is my favorite movie. I've owned the regular BluRay version since it came out and have watched it once. I do not currently own a 4K BluRay player (had an Xbox One X but sold it awhile ago). I guess I should probably get this new version, lol.

I haven't been keeping up on Criterion, are all future releases going to be 4K/ HDR (when possible)? I'll probably hold out on getting anything else if there's potentially better versions on the way.

Holy shit this is great, saved about $70 off of the 4K preorders vs the official site. They don't have Hard Days Night, Red Shoes, or The Piano but hey I will take the other 4

With their January slate, every single one of their announced 4K releases will be accounted for, on top of them delaying Uncut Gems a month to give that a 4K release. There definitely will be more, but don't expect them to offer for every release going forward as no boutique label can afford to do that, even if a film may already have a 4K master ready to go.

Amazon often slashes their Criterion stock around these, so be sure to check there as well.

I'm having trouble buying Criterion blus now that I know 4K is a thing. Even new stuff like Memories of Murder I feel like I'll get burned if I buy blu…….starting to think it's either Apple 4K digital or Criterion 4K here on out for me.

Right now it's just select titles. Expect a transition period like when they started doing Blu-Rays in 2008 but kept on releasing some films on DVD only for another two years.

Do their 4K releases come with digital copies? I don't own a player right now so getting a disc only release is useless atm.

Once Upon a Time in China set and 4K Mulholland, Citizen Kane and Uncut Gems...you will be mine.

There was a couple of Arrow 4Ks that look interesting but they don't have half price on those pre-orders. And I already ordered the Shawscope set a while back.

EDIT - checkout for the site is getting hammered!

EDIT TWO - well by the time I finally got my checkout to work Kane and Gems were OOS. But I got the two things I wanted most, so no harm, no foul.

Yup, no go on Citizen Kane (how do you sell out of a pre-order?), but I secured my Once Upon A Time in China, which I wanted more, as I already have Kane on blu.

Took hours to finally get past the "page just sits there indefinitely after pressing Submit Order" problem, but just now I was finally able to get in Citizen Kane and Mulholland Drive preorders.

I imagine that B&N already has their order for anything new for November and don't want to oversell their initial allotment with how tight the disc replication process is now and Criterion using custom boxes for those releases. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 4K releases all sell out soon and get taken off for a bit while they make another order for fulfilling orders on through December before having them go live again.

Tomorrow is the last day for anyone who forgot

Bought the first UHDs along with the Damned, Ratcatcher(Lynne Ramsay of You Were Never Really Here fame), and The Story of Temple Drake.

So many I wanted to grab but with them finally getting into UHD want to wait and see. Ratcatcher is a 4k restoration but just came out last month post 4k announcement so not expecting a uhd lol.

Final warning lol.

Packaging for the Citizen Kane and Wong Kar sets are neat but a nightmare in practice. All the UHDs are digipacks tsk, I like my standard Criterion Scanavo cases.

Every time I fall in love with a movie on Criterion Channel and one of these sales goes up I find out Criterion stopped printing the film a decade ago. Or they were on, like, an Eclipse box set. Still worth a shot to look, I suppose.

Worth buying Pan's Labyrinth if I bought the original Blu-ray when it launched?

Sale ends on 11/28 by the way.

Let us know what you're hauling.

I ended up getting: Throne of Blood, Onibaba, Blow Out 4K, Le Cercle Rouge 4K. Might also add Malcolm X and Infernal Affairs Trilogy.

Grabbed Videodrome and The Irishman. Figure Irishman is stuck on Netflix so I might as well own it in the event that I get bounced from Netflix
