I know a lot of industry watchers were breathing a sigh of relief at that opening weekend.

This series would be Fast and Furious big if they didn't take so long between 2 and 3. Now that they speeding up it's paying off.

Movie was a lot fun. My theatre was laughing throughout. A bunch of folks who wanted to see Will fail are gonna be awfully silent or awfully mad now

Going to see it tonight and annoyed it's already off all the premium screens after just one week 🤬. The downfall of summer blockbuster season.

What a fun movie. I didn't enjoy the 2nd film, but 1, 3, and 4 were great.

My main issue with BB2 was that it was too long, and Martin and Will didn't have the same fun dynamic they had in the first one, but got it back in the 3rd and 4th. The 2nd felt like their "banter" was more forced and hard edged. Less like an old married couple, and more like an angry divorcing couple if that makes sense lol

There are certainly parts of the 2nd I did really enjoy, but at the time I saw it in the theaters, I preferred the 1st one. Maybe I should rewatch it and perhaps it'll have grown on me.

In either case, I'm actually looking forward to more entries. Ironically, I wouldn't have complained if this one was 10 minutes longer, but it's nice to see a movie that's under 2 hours these days. It gets exhausting sitting in a theater for 2.5+ hours, and it's okay for a movie to trim things and get in at under 2 hours.

I would watch that. Granted why Axel F is in Miami might feel wrong.

Just have him be on vacation, and he gets wrapped up in whatever shenanigans Mike and Marcus are up to lol

Same feeling here. It's hard to watch the sequel because of all the shouting. The action is definitely bigger though.

My exact feelings on the series, enjoyed 1, 3, and probably will like 4(seeing it next week). 2 just kept going it felt like and it just isn't "fun" to me for some reason, to be fair though, the divorcing feel you describe makes sense considering the circumstances in 2.

Bad Boys 2 is an outlier. It's the biggest movie of the bunch. It's loud, it's mean, and it's a great reflection of how Michael Bay is kind of lacking in good taste. I kinda loved that movie for that very reason.

But it stands apart from the other films. 3 and 4 in particular really was strong on the camaraderie and character relations. Bad Boys 2 is…honestly I can't even remember the character plot lines in that movie. Just the Haitians. I get why that movie can stand out.

I saw this tonight and it was a ton of fun. It felt like an early 2000s action movie in all the best ways. There were so many fine ass men on the cast too...that alone enhanced the experience! People have been talking about Will Smith, but Martin is really the star in this one. Reggie's big moment was probably the best action sequence in the series...it was epic!

It's nice to know that I'm not alone in that feeling with Part 2. It just felt off. The action is definitely bigger, and very good, but the draw of these films has always been Martin and Will's chemistry, and it felt like it was missing or damaged in 2. Like the writers took over and were trying to write for Martin and Will, instead of letting them vibe and ad lib and improv with one another like the first film.

I don't actually know anything about the circumstances surrounding Bad Boys 2, but maybe I'll have to look into it!

If you liked Bad Boys 3, I definitely think you'll like 4, as it's very much more of that, with some good action and fun banter with Martin and Will, and was honestly just a fun movie that didn't overstay its welcome, to the point where I was like, "Oh, it's over? Aww man." lol

I think really we're looking at two Bad Boys movies that are well directed but that the focus is on your two lead characters. Bad Boys 2 was…somebody gave Michael Bay a big ass check and he made exactly what he wanted. For better or worse. Like really it's kind of a trashy movie. And I say that with love but I totally get why that one might rub people the wrong way.

Yeah, I definitely feel that. And agree. Me and my friends went to see it, so stoked for it, and we left the theater mostly kind of disappointed in it, but not outright hating it. After all, it did have some good moments, and some great action, but it was absolutely, in my opinion, this shift with Michael Bay and the types of movies he was making at the time. Massive budget, crazy action, thin story. I remember watching the director's commentary of Bad Boys 1, and it was pretty clear that everyone involved was winging it, but it was carried by Martin and Will. The sequel didn't feel like that for me.

It's something i think Bad Boys 3 and 4 have done. They actually managed to keep the focus on them, while also introducing some good support characters that weren't obnoxious or annoying, and it was nice to see some of them return in 4 too!

I'm down for a fifth film if the entire creative team is brought back. I think they clearly have an eye for what makes a fun Bad Boys flick, and Martin and Will still seem to really enjoy playing these characters.

It has an almost Lethal Weapon quality, where part of the charm was seeing these characters age and grow across films, including the supporting cast.

Reggie continues to be great as well, and I hope we see more of him in a fifth film as well lol

Oh, yea I definitely know I'll like 4. After 3 and the directors I've blind faith in them, they seem to just get it. My only question mark is hood they handle the captain and will's son, I've got an idea but it'll be interesting to see.

When I say circumstances I meant Martin's character retiring and Will trying to convince him to stay, so practically a marriage headed towards divorce with one partner trying to salvage while the other is hemming and hawing.

Ah, yeah, that makes sense! I actually forgot the plot of BB2, it's been so long lol

And yeah, this new team really do get these characters and style of film. It definitely feels like a 90's action movie, in a good way!

I want to watch it again for sure

I hope you enjoy it! Let us know what you think (if you haven't already, I'm just now logging onto era lol)

I love it. People in the theater were laughing and it is true that it didn't drag on. There were just too many close up shots but overall I rank it equal to 3 and definitely better than 2. The fist movie is still the best for me and I kind of miss the sunset filter of the first movie. It made Miami look really humid.

Yeah, the first still has a soft spot in my heart, but 3 and 4 are so much fun, and have a lot of heart!

I definitely noticed the amount of close ups in the movie lol

Someone was a fan of Irvin Kershner's work on the Empire Strikes Back, because he also loves his close ups 😂😂
