Goddamn there's something so hilarious about these. The time and effort that people put into them, the ludicrous nature of the premise etc.

I understand it's just clickbait nonsense but lmao come on man

Half the time I see a fighting game video on YouTube it's got bikini mods or something.

I came across a Tom Holland Back to the Future 4 trailer which was hilarious. Just deep fake actors together and instant views. lol

God yeah. Every time I look up Resident Evil speedruns they're using nude mods for the thumbnail with text just barely covering the NSFW bits. Really annoying.

Very little irks me more during my daily internet browsing (which I increasingly aim to limit, these days) than misleading or clickbait thumbnails. It's not a frequent occurrence, as I've tried to curate a reasonably 'sensible' recommended page (on YouTube), but yeah, you've gotta be vigilant for the more insidiously deceptive ones, i.e. the ones where you open it up, watch, and eventually realise it had almost zero connection to the thumbnail. I immediately block that crap.

On a vaguely related note, there've been some really grotesque videos/thumbnails occasionally, such as a thumbnail with infected-looking skin for some medical nonsense, or one that triggers trypophobia. I doubt these are accurate representations of whatever's in the video -- I instantly report/block on thumbnail alone, so who knows?

However, one that made my skin crawl (with how dystopian it is) involves a gay-bashing prank... presumably 'acted' so not actually real... nevertheless I can't believe the makers of this video thought this was acceptable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcc_Vt6DEx4

I've used Clickbait Remover for Youtube for so long I am always surprised when I use another device at just how ridiculous most everything is. That extension just changes the thumbnail to a frame from the middle of the video. But what is more ridiculous is that even the most serious Youtubers know the data doesn't lie and that is what drives traffic.

I use DeArrow, done by the same person who does SponsorBlock. DeArrow can do similar things, except people can submit a specific frame from the video to use as the thumbnail (and if there's not a specific frame, then it will grab one from the video itself).

It's nice because people can submit better titles as well, so you'll get things like:

Original title: "Does nobody else know about this??!!?"
New title: "Riding a train for the first time"

It makes cutting through the popular bullshit so much better.
