I was listening to a podcast about this and now I can't decide which decade had the best movies in their 8th year.

For reference, 1988 had these films:

1998 had these:

Here's 2008:

And here's plucky young 2018 with all of its superhero hits:

I would lean 1998 but 88 had pretty strong list. I could see 2008 having a lot of supporters and 2018 being a cape comic's fan's best year. Funny how the MCU started a decade ago too.

What do you think?

1988 has Halloween IV listed and 1998 has Deep Impact and Pleasantville twice but not Halloween H20 even though it was far more successful than IV.

Lot's of stinky films in those lists, and totally US mainstream centric.

I don't watch enough films to have an educated opinion, but I remember 2007 being pretty good with There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men.

2018 isn't even close to the best years. Just a couple of years ago, 2016, was better. Also OP, you don't even have one of the best movies of 2008 (Let the Right One In).

Yup, this is the answer. Give me a better top 3 than There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men and Zodiac.?
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford arguably takes Zodiac's spot. Such a great year.

2018 was fucking terrible for movies.

Go to Rottentomatoes and look at all the recent movies.

Yup, another amazing movie...plus there's also Michael Clayton, Juno, The Bourne Ultimatum, Ratatouille, Superbad, Hot Fuzz, Gone Baby Gone, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Eastern Promises, The Counterfeiters, Atonement, etc, etc. It's prob the best year of all time.

1978 had more good films from Hong Kong alone than any of the films on display in the OP!

Damn, '88 was packed!

Then again, randomly pick a year from the 80s and it probably was a great year for movies.

Then again, I'm biased because I was a kid in the 80s and it was a whimsical, magical time for me.

Then again, SCREW YOU GUYS! 80S FOREVER, WOOOOOOOOO!!!!
