People seem to be missing the fact that as well as being not too bright, JCVD is widely known to be absolutely batshit insane. Thinks you can cure cancer with positive energy, that kind of thing.
Wouldn't be his first time using homophobia as a humor device.

I don't believe that JC honestly literally believes that if we let gay people marry, children will cease to be produced. Yeah he comes off as dumb but he can't lack that kind of critical thinking.
I think he was just trying to be cute & funny but it was lame & groan worthy. I do believe he's old fashioned homophobe though and accept the reality of civilization.
And I'm sick of hearing "I can't be X because I have friends that are Y." That's not an excuse. The other day I had someone try to make a racist joke on a Facebook picture of myself, and when I called him out on it he was like "It's just a joke, I'm not really racist - I can't be, my cousins are black!" How is that an excuse? You couldn't control the ethnicity of your cousins you idiot.
If you cared about your "Gay Friends" then you wouldn't say something to other people that you would consider to be offensive and insensitive to say to them.

Also, it bears repeating, but that show he was on, On n'est pas Couchés, is shit, and its host, Laurent Ruquier, is a huuuuuge, unfunny piece of shit. The fact that he doesn't even attack JCVD or defend the minister even though he himself is openly gay says a lot about how shitty he is. There's hardly anyone in French media I hate more than him, except possibly Cyril Hanouna. That guy is on another level.

I used to find that funny... But after having lived in an English speaking country for 10 years, I now understand what it's like. I also speak some butchered franglais with my family and have a hard time speaking properly. So yeah, I wouldn't hold that against him.

One is a dumb gag filled access prime time and the other a late night show with artists and politics talking together.It's actually a show that lest people talk aboutpretty smart things, philosophers, writers etc.. and let a pretty big time to do so. It's fucking stupid to be all "yeah french tv is dumb" and to compare it to Hanouna.
Actually, JCVD, in any other show would be free to say any dumb shit, but there he everyone was like "aaawkward" and the woman was telling him he was shocking. Even Ruquier, who's gay and has to keep being nice to his guests, was lecturing him softly. Ruquier was more in the attitude of a gay guy being all "yeah don't worry the guy is hopeless, no reason to be mad he's just a mess"
By the way JCVD also said on an other french show, many years ago something like "well yeah i'm gay i guess cause i find my body beautiful"
This is so weird. Van Damme is fully aware that Fedor is the real hero here. I mean, we've all watched the 80's Kickboxer movies and hoped we would one day be as badass, but growing up you realize it's acting and that real fighting is a different ballgame.
Anyway, he probably influenced Fedor to become a champ. But Van Damme is a fucking idiot so this is weird to watch.

The relation between both is that imo french talk shows are horrible.
The fact that Ruquier didn't simply tell JVCD to leave tells a lot about that and how France still treats homosexuals.
