I was wondering how this all worked!

Does anyone know how or have a guide or something?

If I have 3 hearts but MAXED OUT high level armor, where would that put me at?

I'm very curious! It's something I may consider for my next playthrough.
At maxed out armor almost all attacks will only dent 1/4 heart. Only the strongest bosses will be able to do more damage than that. I dunno about stuff like your own bombs. Those may not be mitigated by your armor.

As for the exact formula IIRC it's substractive. Basically there's a weapon attack strength + a mob strength then - your armor = the number of quarter hearts you take as damage, with always a minimum of 1/4 heart damage (can't be zero).

So high armor means only the strongest attacks from the strongest enemies will make more than 1/4 heart damage.

Basically your armor score is substracted to the enemy attack score to determine the damage you take (short version: attack-defense=damage).

So high armor basically allows to almost negate any attack (even the weakest bokoblin will still damage a quarter heart no matter how high your armor score is).

But once the enemy outmatches your armor it can quckly do a lot of damage still. If the enemy attack score is 100 even with 80 armor you'll take 20 damage (so 5 hearts in that example). But an enemy attack score of 90 will only take 2 and a half heart. And anything under 80 will only take a quarter heart.

Hope that's clearer for you!

Side quests worth doing? Most of them seem meh.
mmm.. not really, most are fetch quests and the rewards go from rupees to minerals (for selling), and they rarely have interesting stories.

Aside from shrine quests, just do the one you find interesting or that appear "important", like the one to get certain item of legend...

"From the ground up" is a must, though

Spent most of my food getting to Goron town, worth it.

Hopefully that important quest isn't easy to find.

So after 30 hours in Zelda Master Mode. MM combat is not worth it, well maybe not the combat as its pretty light/weak but more the HP inflation. In a shrine with one dude with a polearm type weapon. Parrying. Throwing broken items. Even magic fireball rod. Down to three weapons.

He drops a 12 damage weapon. Totally not worth the effort (grinding) on this dude lol.

I was digging just exploring and doing shrines for like 20 hours, but I'm kind of burning out.

Probably a dumb question, but is it more fun to advance the main quest and explore gradually?

What is with the Yiga hideout quest in Gerudo? I've killed all the guards but can't find anywhere to go.

Man, Thunderblight Ganon is kicking my ass real good, stuck on the second phase since yesterday.

Edit: beat it after posting this without taking a hit, that was satisfying, hardest boss so far.

I have to say... after a whole year of reading comments that state the contrary, the music for this game is really quite good. Specifically, the regular battle theme and its variations. It is such a great piece. I play the game with headphone and it cracks me up how whimsically it begins. Piano, violins, and a soft drum beat. And, there's this whistle sound in the background that's sort of there to say, hey, look how fun and silly this is. Then it switches gears and starts dropping that DEEP BASS. Hits me right in the soul.

Digging this soundtrack. All the simple ambient music, the town tracks, the legacy hits (Great Fairy, Hyrule Castle, etc), and all the fight themes.

Question for you Era

About how many hours should I realistically expect to get out of The Champions' Ballad?

I'm hopping back in for the first time since it was released

Picked this up on the Switch, as the WiiU was not being used (i have this habit of not playing Nintendo home consoles as much as the handhelds, which i use on my commute to work). The Switch is perfect for that, so i'm having the chance to now play this game. So far, it seems to play better on the Switch than the WiiU.

All divine beasts down and just got that weapon, should finish it tomorrow probably.

Explore Hyrule Castle.

There are hidden places, passages (and entrances).
If you've already met the NPC that tells you about the secret escape route built for the Royal Family, get there first.
Oh, and don't forget about Hyrule Castle Prison, for the Twilight Princess nostalgia.

I freaking LOVE all the easter eggs, secret places and side quests of this game, specially when they make references to older games.

The Leviathan side quest is particularly incredible when you get to know who each one of them actually is.

And I must confess I teared up a little the first time I entered Lon Lon Ranch ruins.

Already beat it lol, I didn't explore the castle and just climbed up, what did I miss? last fight was pretty easy but good, I haven't played, this was also my first Zelda so have no nostalgia for anything.

There were some issues in 1.0 but now it definitely runs better than on WiiU in pretty much all instances.

Finally!!!

:') that theme, slow and quiet, like it's been forgotten over time.

There's always a castle. There's always a horse. There's always a boy with a sword.

"There's always a lighthouse".

Since the first trailers, BOTW has been about The Legend of Zelda's relevance in gaming.

BOTW is about the integrity of The Legend of Zelda.

This game really has it's hooks in me and I'm wondering if I'm dawdling around too much.
The Switch reports I'm around 70-hours played.

Only completed 1 divine beast, just finished getting the blue flame at Akkala Lab, and only really explored the Great Plateau, the Dueling Peaks Tower region, Hateno Tower Region, and Lanayru Tower region. Is it going to take me like 500-hours to finish this game? I intend to do all the shrines but only get enough Korok seeds for all the upgrades.

GOD DAMN GOD DAMN GOD DAMN
I just finished the story of the best game ever (19%, with all the main missions, a lot of shrines and a lot of side quests done)

this game is the perfect role playing game. the whole time I felt I was doing this adventure and did not regret one second of it

Speaking as someone who did every quest and fully upgraded every armour and meticulously explored everything on my first playthrough and found 500+ Korok seeds, I took over 300 hours.

Sounds good, so not an entirely crazy amount of time.

Another question for the thread;
I really need a Windcleaver because I have all 3 of the other weapons for the rest of the Weapons Connoisseur that come after that and I'm tired of using the weapons slots to hold them. I also have the home and it's fully upgraded holding some of my high end elemental weapons so I can't put them there. The internet tells me I can find Blademasters in the Yiga Clan hideout but I don't want to go to that area yet and probably get sidetracked by the dozen other quests out there. People say there are Blademasters at the end of the bridge on Hylia or along the road to the lab in Akkala but it looks like they'll only appear AFTER I clear the Yiga hideout.

Is there any place in the game at this point where I can come across a Blademaster aside from that one shine quest I already did?

As far as I can tell, the internet is right.

Yeah, I just sucked it up, hoofed all the way out there, got the tower and stable, did the quest to enter Gerudo town, went to the Yiga hideout, stun locked the first blademaster with shock arrows, finished him off with melee, grabed the sword, fast traveled out of there, finished all the remaining weapons connoisseur steps, then put that badass ancient short sword on display in my house. I also broke down and spent more korok seeds on weapon slots because I still have too many good weapons in my inventory. I think I'm at the last two weapon slot upgrades but whew they will take some time to gather another 100 seeds.

This game is one of my favorite games of all time. I've never played a single player experience over 100 hours and this game will easily surpass that.

Everything about its ambiance and setting is something truly special. I've been playing this game for over a year and it continues to find ways to surprise me. It speaks volumes to the wonderful game design they've put forth.

There certainly are imperfections, but they come with the territory of being such a liberating game. I just can't gush over this game enough.

I really love running around and exploring. For the most part I skip all combat. Try to pace out shrines as they got boring real fast. And sometimes skip some of the side quests.

Though dunno why you use stamina for exploration, very limited. I mean for the "combat" I see the usage.

It limits how and when you're able to run away from enemies, and also forces you to be smarter about climbing up things. Adds a layer of strategy though it does get cumbersome at times when you just want to run around.

Think I am going to abandon my 40 hour save due to master mode being artificially "hard". I find it pretty annoying when I have to fight using a bunch of random 11 damage weapons to kill one blue guy. Even one of the weapons is a fire staff. The pretty..weak combat mechanics are amplified in this mode. I do not see how this is hard, its just more tedious. You can't really goof around and experimenting is very little in this.

For how much you have to fight you really get junk in return as a reward for your effort. It feels like the game is laughing at me wasting my time.

Unless at some point I start to get decent weapons, which I have not. I will probably not play for a couple weeks and go back to normal.

Any tips for finding shrines when you've found pretty much everything? I got all the way to 114 without using the Sheika Sensor, have since turned it on but only managed to find one more shrine that was, frankly, kind of bullshit.

Some shrines are hidden behind rocks/boulders, and other tricky places that can't be seen from afar. If you have the Sheikah sensor turned off for most of the game (like I did), it'll be pretty hard to find them unless you scour the entire map again and happen to pass nearby. Others are hidden behind side quests, so look for any NPCs that you haven't encountered yet, particularly in less explored areas.

Something that did help me out a bit was looking at areas of the map that didn't have any/many shrines, but that might not help you a lot at this stage.

That said, I'm happy that I had it turned off for my first playthrough, as it heightened the sense of adventure and discovery.

Just freed my first divine beast (the Zoran one) and i must say i'm starting to really enjoy the game more. The beginning was kinda dull but meeting more characters and feeling the world more "alive" has helped a lot. The story bits are actually interesting.

Did you guys beat the Lynel when you go to grab the shock arrows? I did, and that sweet bow and the remaining arrows destroyed the boss on the elephant. Felt so good.

I ignored the lynel, it one shooted me once and I was like "nope" so I just picked up the arrows and left.

I just beat the game a couple minutes ago. That ending was beautiful.
I wish the post-game wasn't just the save right before the final boss. Wish we could roam around Hyrule without any enemies in the way. The guardians in the shrines can stay.
