I don't think it's a matter of it not happening anymore, just a symptom of this E3 in particular with a lot of studios gearing up for next gen, combined with long dev cycles, and it leads to less AAA games being shown extensively, let alone many being original or unique. There were plenty of smaller games shown that I'd describe as original and creative, but those don't win these awards.
Mind listing them? I'm not being facetious I'm just curious if I missed something.

I thought Tunic looked awesome but the influences from Zelda are pretty obvious, similarly Ori looks incredible but that did get it's due here.

Deserved. There's only a handful of times when publishers, developers and fans all sync up and get what they want. It's literally the remake we wanted, the way we wanted it and it came at the right time.

My Friend Pedro, Sable, The Sinking City, Ashen, Ooblets, Outer Wilds, Wargroove are the ones that come to mind

Capcom CM said it has two modes on Pro and X1X. You can play either in 4K/30fps or 1080p/60fps. Base consoles are unknown, but I guess 1080p and unclocked fps.
According to Maxamillian Dood, when he played the demo on PS4 Pro, it was running unlocked at a max of 45 fps. So if that is the 1080p/60fps mode I have to wonder if at launch it will be consistent or not. I personally doubt it because of the CPU's in the consoles but we shall see.

Well they still have more than 6 months to iron things out.
Of course, and I understand optimization is one of the last things that come at the end of development for these games. But with the objectives of this game being different than RE7 (which had to be 60 because it was targeting VR) I personally would not be surprised if it stayed unlocked like that, even if it did get closer to 60. But like you said, we shall see what they can iron out in that time.

Sable (really cool art style!) Ooblets (relaxing animal crossing mixed with pokemon fun!) and Wargroove (finally, an advance wars game) all look right up my alley, I forgot about them to be honest as they don't really get the same spotlight as some of the other games.

Confirmation that this generation is trash.

For horror games, definitely.

For every game? Ehh.....maybe.

Old good games are simply better than new good games, it's not even nostalgia cause I'm a millennial and haven't played many old games, it's just fact, they are just better.

Last year I played FF6, REmake, Shadow of the Colossus and Symphony of the Night for the first time, and all of them are better than God of War and Bloodborne which are undoubtedly the very best games of this generation. (Bloodborne is amazing but for me it's not as good as Dark Souls, which is what I would call a true modern classic.)

Not saying new good games aren't good, they are, and I love them, it's just that old good games are much more unique and interesting, in other words memorable.

I played both REmake and RE7 for the very first time in the same year, and even though I liked the combat in 7 better REmake is still a far superior game in pretty much every way. It's actually mindblowing just how much worse RE7 is compared to REmake.

It's like holy shit how the fuck did we lose all that brilliant level design, replayability and monster variety? How the fuck did we lose all that amazing exploration and awesome boss fights? If RE7 was released right after REmake (with PS2 graphics of course) it would be literally called dogshit by the fans. The fact that it was seen as a great game nowadays shows just how bad modern horror game design is.

Sometimes I feel like I'm from a different planet when I read the praise for this game. I totally get series fans going nuts for this, but best game of E3? Really?

I know this is meant to show how good the game looks, but this looks... just bad to me. The zombie doesn't react to getting hit with the shotgun at all, and proceeds to stumble to ground very stiffly. Even the way the MC moves here is incredibly stiff and unnatural.

I don't want to tell anyone not to be excited for this game on these grounds, I'm just saying I don't really get why - based solely on what they showed at E3, and as someone who's never played any of the games - the game deserves to be called the "best of show".

They should only react from the impact of the rounds, are they supposed to be feeling pain or something? You can blow off body parts even half of they're face and they'll still come at you. Easily some of the scariest Zombies in a game, resilient. The rest of what you said just comes off as nitpicky.

RE2 looks has the potential to be one of the GOAT horror games due to the design decisions they made.

Absolutely deserved, my game of the show too.

I don't get the RE4 comparisons though, if you speak in terms of reverence I would love RE2make to become an all time masterpiece. But it clearly won't do what RE4 did, this is not an action game. It's also not innovating much of anything, while RE4 perfected over the shoulder aiming.

If remake 2 is as good as RE2 is I will be more than happy.

All of the direct feed footage I have seen so far looks phenomenal. Keeping the survival horror pacing but having a tracking camera looks like a winning combo. Based on what the rules are for what is eligible, it isn't hard to believe that this was the most impressive game that met the criteria. Amazing that people have a problem with this compared to some if the duds like Evolve that have won in the past.

Great. Awarding dat tight Japanese game design over the more bombastic games feels good.

Max named his video "RE2 demo in 4k", I really doubt it was in 1080p/60fpe mode. ;p

They rarely use that to showcase Pro/X1X games anyway, gotta market that 4k.
