I feel that poster is backwards

The sad Jimmy is the mask, and the bright smiling in color person is Saul underneath

Is this still in prequel territory (I watched the pilot and didn't bother with the rest)? Kind of robs it of any sort of tension.

I think all of them have been fine so far though. They've been good about limiting them to only when it works.

Gus was used way too much and the Cousins were awful. Though I'm not a fan of most of Mike's story.

The spectre of Saul adds a sense of dread to show though. So sure, we know this doesn't work out but I still find worthwhile to see how it falls apart and what makes Jimmy into Saul.

I agree. For the most part it's just been minor cameos. And it wouldn't make sense to not have Gus heavily involved in Mike's origins. I think the callbacks are strengthening Breaking Bad's story. It was weird to me how Mike started off as Saul's hired goon, then later turned out to be Gus's right hand man.

I'm glad they didn't go forward with the Marie cameo though, that would have been a bit too distracting

What a weird comment. "i watched one out of 30 episodes. It is still like the one I watched?"

As if there would be no plot development? Also, this is and will always be a prequel. That's the entire point.

Shows great, going to be weird with chuck gone. In the first 3 seasons I always just wanted the two brothers to come to terms and forgiveness because if they worked together they would be invincible.

1. I think the poster is fantastic AND accurate -- as the darkness consumes Jimmy, the Saul mask will overtake more and more of Jimmy's total person.

2. I don't have a problem at all with the Breaking Bad cameos, but if you don't like them now I would brace yourself. I fully expect this to become more and more like Breaking Bad as that mask tightens around Jimmy.

3. It all comes down to whatever breaks Kim. When that happens, Jimmy says fuck all this and goes 100% Saul. I just want to know what it is that breaks her. Is she dead? Does he fuck up her career? Does she leave him and cut off contact? Does she move back to Nebraska? Or does SHE turn into Filly N. Goodman? This is the central mystery of the show and it's amazing.

They do a good job with creating the tension around the other characters, rather than Jimmy and Mike. But they also set up the events so you are rooting for the characters to not turn into their breaking bad personas, so at times it's just the writers slowly twisting the knife as you beg them to stop. It's by far the best prequel I've ever seen.

Totally agree.

I'll admit, I'm a little confused by the Breaking Bad cameo complaints in this thread.

I don't see how you can create a proper prequel about Saul Goodman without explaining how he met Francesca, Huell and Patrick. You definitely can't do a Saul Goodman prequel show without explaining how Mike Ehrmantraut became one of Saul's most trusted hired goons. And you can't tell a prequel story about Mike without explaining his business relationship with Gus and Lydia.

The stories of Saul and Mike are pretty much linked together, in my opinion.

Also: "You don't want a criminal lawyer... you want a criminal lawyer," Jesse explains to Walt early in their partnership in Breaking Bad. Which means Jesse knew about Saul Goodman's reputation long before he and Walt teamed up together. It's very possible that Jesse's friends like Badger, Combo, or Skinny Pete ran into Saul before the events of Breaking Bad.

I think, really, Walt is the only one who doesn't really fit in, since he doesn't get mixed into this world until Breaking Bad starts (and he also can't cameo in the future segments).

EW interview: Bob Odenkirk on creating Breaking Bad's Saul Goodman — and dreading becoming him again
It also landed him his own Breaking Bad prequel spin-off in Better Call Saul. Not that he jumped at that opportunity when creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould started broaching the possibility. "I always thought it was a huge risk, and all I wanted was them to do it for their own reasons, and not because I asked them to do it or pressured them to do it," he says. "So I basically backed off every single time it was suggested to me. I think Vince might have thought it was kind of weird to suggest to an actor, 'What if I create a show for you?,' and have that actor look at him and go, 'I dunno. It's your free time. Do what you want with your time.' [Laughs] I didn't want to be hoping, counting on it, and I didn't know what it was. We didn't really know who the character was when we left Breaking Bad." As he notes: "My first question when we talked was, 'How do you make him likable?' Because I didn't like that guy. I mean, I like watching him — like a car wreck when you're not in it. It's intriguing. It pulls you in. But he's a bad guy."

The trio managed to avoid spin-off turn-off and create a sympathetic if flawed fellow out of Saul, nee Jimmy McGill. Odenkirk, meanwhile, has been nominated for three lead actor Emmys for his work on the series, which itself has landed three drama-series Emmy noms. "They made him such a likable guy, and yet kept it organic," says Odenkirk of Gilligan and Gould. "It's not a completely different person, but I really like the guy." As season 4 approaches, however, the actor feels an inevitable dread. "I'm having to confront the fact that he is becoming Saul, and I don't like Saul," he shares. "If he was my friend, I would say, 'Don't go that route.'" But for the guy who plays him to perfection, the road to hell has been paved with good drama.

Is Tuco confirmed to return? I know the actor hates the character but I'd love to see him and the cousins together.

Tuco is still doing his stint in jail at this point in the timeline, isn't he? It's right around the start of Breaking Bad when he gets out.

Unless they have a scene or two of him in prison, maybe with the cousins visiting in order to relay the news of Hector's newly afflicted condition.

Ah, gotcha. Didn't know he was released just shortly before BB.

Brief Collider interview with Gillian and Patrick Fabian
Gilligan also added, when asked if there was a plan for future season of the series should be be renewed, that:
"[We take things] very much season by season. And I'm less involved than I used to be. Peter Gould, my partner, who co-created the show is running the writers room, and they're doing it the same way we did it on Breaking Bad, which is very much season by season. We really don't know where it's all going. We have ideas, and touchstones we want to get to, but never really sure where it's going to wind up. And that is to the good, because otherwise, if we knew 5, 6, 7 years ahead of time where we want it to land, it would get stale. So it's better this way."

Also, one more teaser over on Instagram.

Not only are these not just cameos, they are necessary plot and character points for this side of the story of the Breaking Bad universe. They have beautifully expanded and fleshed out several characters. The characters are so much richer for it, and they don't just serve fan-service appearances. Just thinking how much more depth Jimmy and Mike have gained...and you see how far Gus struggled, never mind all the other great characters, Kim Howard, Chuck, Nacho. And it was a lot of fun to see Hector and Tuco fall. This is anything but pointless or tension free. I mean, no one expected Jesse and Walt to die before the end either, and this show is going to end in the flashforwards era.
I am fucking hyped for this show to return, it was too long.

I wonder what a 3rd breaking bad universe show could be like or about.

I don't really think there's currently a character that would work for another spin-off. I think Kim potentially could work, depending on what happens in the remainder of Better Call Saul. I think it's possible they could also introduce a good spin-off character late game. Outside of that, I think everyone will have been too thoroughly covered between Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad to really work in a spin-off. I think a Gus prequel could've had potential, but everyone needed for that will be way too old for how far back that prequel would be.

I wouldn't have thought a Saul show would work. It kinda depends on how far off you want to go. Could be anything from Jesse after BB to The Adventures of Vacuum Repair Man.

Though hopefully it will end with Saul, just because the near flawlessness of the shows so far feels kind of precious, and the longer they go the more likely they'll veer off track.

Jesse already looked too old to play his own Season 1 self in the series finale flashback, and that was five years ago. He'd look absurd trying to play himself even younger than his Season 1 self.
Wait a minute. That was five years ago?

Teaser!

https://www.slashfilm.com/better-call-saul-season-4-teaser-2/

I'm trying to figure out the best way to watch this. I've tried over-the-top services like Sling / DTV Now / PS Vue before and none of them really meet my needs or what I'm looking for. I don't have cable either.

I could buy a season pass for it, or I could just wait for it to hit a streaming service once the season is over? How long did past seasons of Better Call Saul take to hit Netflix?

9 months - 1 year in the US. They arrive the day after the episode airs on iTunes/Xbox/etc, which is how I watched some of season 2.

Yes! We finally get a Saul and Kim kissing scene!

Be still my heart.
