They didn't have a terrible E3, they just had a horrendously ill-conceived presser that seemed dead-set to sabotage the excellent line-up of games that featured during it.

- Don't prioritise the audience attending over the millions watching via internet.
- Don't include stage gimmicks.
- Don't have musical performances.
- Don't have a running time of 50 minutes (seriously, all the games announced in the days prior could've easily been at that conference).
- And most important of all, don't ever EVER have Sid Shuman appear at any point.
I'm fine with the musical performances as long as they don't last forever. The performances should only be 2-3 minutes long, not at the length of a Tchaikovsky symphony.

I still have the question: Why Anthem is best action game while they didn't choose DMC5 or Sekiro?

Whoa, this is a pretty huge surprise. I thought for sure Cyberpunk had BIS in the bag but maybe not everyone who votes got a chance to see the demo and as such couldn't vote for it. Makes me all the more excited for RE:make 2

well, 2 outa 3 ain't bad.

Imo Sony was one good 10 min montage of upcoming games away from having a great presser, instead of that very awkward transition.
In any case, and for all involved, I think it has been a great E3 (well, not sure about EA, but they'll make plenty of dough anyway).

Now I need more Dreams in my life damit!

Can someone explain to me how Resident Evil 2 Remake wins best of the show award but not best console/pc game? I thought it means it'll win those awards too but maybe I'm missing something. Thanks in advance.

No, none of the Judges could play Cyberpunk 2077, so it wasn't eligible.

Well the nominees were different so the votes breakdown differently.

In Best Console game, Dreams or AC:O could've had votes that ended up going to RE2 in Best of Show (where AC:O and Dreams weren't nominated). Likewise, votes for Spider-Man could've been siphoned off by Anthem in the Best of Show vote.

I hate when things do this - RE2 wins best of show yet Spiderman and anthem win best console game and PC game respectively? So re2 is the best game overall but it's not the best game on any platform it's on?

Best of show should automatically win any platform best of awards. It doesn't make any sense that it doesn't.

So much for Sony having a terrible E3...

Some of their games winning awards doesn't mean their E3 conference wasn't bad.

Fantastic to see Sony's AAA games getting the awards they deserve.

Good lord posts like these are "cringe worthy" lol.

Good list. I couldn't agree more. RE2 is looking outstanding. Probably the most insane remake I've ever seen

Talking about graphics, for me Forza Horizon 4 took my breath away. I watched a lot of FH4 gameplay and that engine... holy f. For an open world racing/driving game, where you are constantly moving fast, that was f impressive, what jump from the last game!

Yes, Dreams got in, I still have that live performance melody in my head just thinking about it. They should have showed that to everyone during the transition from TLOU2. I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with in that game.

amazing how much shit they got simply for the structure of their press conference. that was the focus instead of the games they showed, which all looked incredible.

including game of the show resident evil 2 remake

Because they went full "Kinect era" Microsoft.

They had the perfect balance of musical performance and pacing with E3 2016.

They kinda stumbled in 2017, but that was because they didn't really have a strong line up

They were smelling their own farts this year and it sabatoged their great games line up.

Let me put this in perspective.

In 30 minutes they showed one game, an add for DLC and a 2 minute CG trailer.

That was half the conference

When Ori wins best independent game, you know they need to rethink their categories. Getting recognized for being awesome is great but it's not an indie game.

Sony steamrolled again

On a side note i feel so disconnected with how much people like RE and i enjoyed then when they originally released but i feel so old man yelling at clouds. Perhaps is my zombie bias that blinds me

RE never was just about zombies, and maybe people like this franchise because it's full of really great games ?

RE doesn't get enough credit for what it did for the industry.

"I just find it surprising how liked is the series"

Resident evil is one of the biggest gaming franchises of all time though

Capgod is back

Sony with those exclusives but as posted the biggest winner is the people at media molecule

The potential of dreams and the backing by sony over a project which had to be rebooted several times is finally paying off

Can someone explain to me briefly why the RE2 remake is such a big deal? I saw it during the conference and shrugged. Obviously I'm missing something. Is it the best game in the series or something? Is it a ground-up, world-class remake? I don't get the adulation.

Yes it's ground up remake. Well more of a reimagining really. There's 20 minute gameplay videos on YouTube. Check it out. It's absolutely amazing horror game.

It's not a straight remake as they're adding new content and story to it. So layouts are changing, characters are being given more depth, puzzles are changing on so on. They're putting a lot of work into it. And RE2 is generally considered either the best or second best game in the series, depending on how that person usually feels about RE4. So this remake is a huge deal.

Very happy with the RE2R and Anthem love. Despite EA having shitty marketing, it seems the playable demo really left a positive impression on people for Anthem.
