Worth mentioning that only games that were playable (as demos or whatever) at E3 were eligible

I was really surprised by how great RE2 looks and how intense it seems to be. I feel safe in saying it'll blow the original away on every level since it seems to be actually scary, and not because of the controls. Spiderman looked great as well and would have been a very acceptable choice for best game too.

I'm glad total war 3 kingdoms got some recognition too. A modern RotK game that doesn't suck has been near the top of my wanted list for many years now and I really hope they don't drop the ball. You never really know what to expect from CA anymore. Rome 2 devastated me when it launched.

At this point what in God's name is the difference between and Action game and an Action/Adventure game?

Damn right Resident Evil 2 was best of the show. Looks amazing, had a hands-on demo, and a release date that is a few months away. Pssssh. Best. Of. E3. Period.

I'm happy KH3 won best RPG. Resident Evil 2 deserves the best of show award.

I'm also happy Dreams won something.

Wow @ Dreams!! Wish the game would be shown off/promoted more.

With Cyberpunk not eligible, there wasn't a clear cut winner like there was last year and 2016 with Odyssey and BotW. Good job on RE2make for taking it home.

No offence to Moon Studios but isn't Ori a Microsoft owned and funded game? How is that independent?

Congrats to all the winners though. I'm very happy RE2 took top prize and Dreams got some recognition.

At this point what in God's name is the difference between and Action game and an Action/Adventure game?
Generally Action games are games where you overwhelmingly only have combat, whereas Action/Adventure games include a heavier focus on non-combat elements.

Mind, I'm not sure they always get the buckets right, but historically Action games were mainly things like shooters where you run through 12 levels shooting everyone you see, and Action/Adventure might have you sneaking around, picking up items, talking to people, platforming, that kind of thing.

Can somebody give me a good explanation of what defines an Indie game?

Ori and the Will of the Wisps won best indie game, but it has the support of Microsoft Studios behind it. Does this mean that as long as an independent studio develops a game, it doesn't matter who else is involved? If so, does that make Spider-man an indie game? I need answers!

The genre split between action, action/adv, and RPG is getting tougher every year. It's something we think about for Game Awards too. So many games in those genre categories, but the delineation is tough.

Sony's really letting Dreams down by not promoting it as much as their other big titles. It looks amazing but, damn, you shouldn't have to seek it out as much as you have to.

I'm not too enthused in RE2Make but, considering the competition, I'd say it deserves to be there. It had a fully playable demo that impressed, and in this E3 that was more than enough to take the win.

Even when Microsoft so-called "wins" E3, it's really Sony who wins E3. At the end of the day, it's not about your flashy presentation and empty promises, it's about the games you are delivering.
