In light of the constant negativity I see directed at games here (I know it's not everyone and I know it's not every topic, but it is overwhelming nonetheless), I thought I'd take a recent topic and flip it on it's head. There are no true games that are 100% bad, even if they're 100% not for us, and we should be trying to see the good in things more, even the things we don't like.

So, ERA, my question is this: What are some good things about games you otherwise despise/don't like? (And before some of you smarmy fucks try to say it, no "it ended lul" or dumb shit like that. I want earnest answers.)

I'll go first; While Until Dawn was an absolute slog of a game for me, I can't help but appreciate the mountain it is set on and I wish that I could explore the area, walking sim style, free from the narrative devices of the game. Also, it hadnled QTEs better than just about any other game I've seen apart from games like the Yakuza series.

Sonic 06 has good music at least.

Mega Man and Bass looks great for an SNES game.

Crash 1 is still very charming.

There are moments in Jak 2 where it remembers what brought it to the party in the first place and busts out stretches of spiffy platforming, notably on the bridge and Mar's Tomb.
It adds up to but a mere slither of the overall game time but hey, it's there.

Nier Automata had a really great soundtrack, and tried to add a great variety of gameplay segments to try and keep the game entertaining. Sadly nothing clicked and i hated almost every aspect, but i can still appreciate why people enjoy it and commend square for putting some faith in the project.

Call Of Juarez: The Cartel: The Co-Op atleast worked incredibly well.

Mafia 3: An incredibly interesting setting and time period, cool cast of characters and a cool potential for a story arc.

Last Guardian: Pulling off heads of the enemies was really satisfying.

Brink: Character customisation was cool, with some neat multiplayer aspects.

Sonic 06: Having 3 characters was pretty cool to add variety....and .....uh.....

Lunar Dragon had... umm... uhh...

I remember it having a couple decent pieces of music?

It's also the very first JRPG to be released on the DS, so I guess that's something.

Elder Scrolls Online - at least it looks pretty.

PUBG - at least it made a genre of PvP uber popular

For a Nintendo-only kid like me back in the 90s, Balls 3D gave me a fair idea of how fun 3D fighters could eventually turn out to be.

Muv Luv (including Alternative) is crazy when it comes to visual direction because the way sprites are always placed in different parts of the scene make it feel almost like a stage.

Zero Time Dilemma has some amazing original compositions in it (Ustulate Pathos is a favorite of mine).

The Uncharted-series looks pretty (character design is mediocre, though) and with nice animations.

I don't really play a lot of bad games or at least they don't leave much of an impression on me, so while I don't like The Last Of Us I at least respect that its ending had balls and really disagree with people who think there should have been an option to choose the outcome.

These threads are always enlightening. For reasons other than what the OP intended.

TLoU and Breath of the Wild, two fabulously received games, are in actuality the worst that gaming has to offer.

Meme Run was delisted
The industry learned a lot with ET for the Atari
The Guy Game made lots of countries work on proper legislation for work conditions on gaming
It is good that SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy shows that SNK cares about the switch

Gears Of War active reload mechanic was a pretty cool idea.
I'm not sure if it's the least favorite game of mine, but it definitely is one I dislike and believe to have a negative impact on the genre.

The Last of Us has some pretty solid voice acting from professional voice actors who do voice and acting for a living.

Bayonetta does have some interesting encounters.

Nier Automata...eventually ends. And has one meaningful boss encounter that actually has a decent theme and philosophical meaning about beauty.

Stardew Valley is basically unrivaled in terms of bang for your buck and it has a wealth of systems for people to get into. You really can play the game however you want.

Monster Hunter World offers tremendous depth in terms of combat and for those who are into crafting and grinding you will be rewarded many times over for your dedication.

The original Street Fighter had a unique premise and set a foundation for the classic Street Fighter II.

Sonic 06 had some interesting ideas for Shadow. The idea of the one being he trusts (Omega) being the one who is ultimately forced to kill him is, at least in concept, an interesting, new direction to take the character. I also like Blaze despite how little relevance she has to the story of 06.

What even is my least favorite game? Of one that I really put time into, Recore's art is amazing. Its just not what I thought it was based on prerelease stuff and it needed more time. Wasted potential is my biggest issue with that game.

Least favorite game is not something I think about so im sure theres a better answer than this one. Recore is just relatively front in my mind.

Both Sonic '06 and The Last Of Us have terrific music (I don't dislike TLOU nearly as much as Sonic '06, it's just a game I always think about with threads like this due to the disparity between my opinion and the general consensus).
