A game being critically acclaimed isn't always a guarantee for success.

No, but it's also not a new release. Xbox users know it's a Platinum game that's already proven successful on other platforms.

I just picked it up on PC myself a couple weeks ago. Great game so far. I love how it switches between hack n slash and shooter.

Stop veering off topic. You know very well my comment wasn't referring to just this particular game..People always claim Xbox gamers don't play Japanese games so it is great to see Nier Automata picking up steam on the Xbox store as more Xbox fans try it out and hopefully, it actually does well enough to get more Japanese support, especially from the smaller devs.
There is nothing off topic about what I'm talking about, report the post if you think I'm doing that instead of acting like a mod please.

People claim smaller Japanese games don't do well on Xbox and not Xbox gamers aren't playing them, until we get numbers there really isn't much to talk about.
Don't know why your trying to down play this so hard. I'm pretty sure that this port is doing better than expected for SquareEnix, and that is great.
There was no downplaying from my posts, you're seeing things that don't exists, a digital only game charting digitally on release shouldn't be surprising as OP was trying to paint it, that's all I was saying.
We have these kind of threads for all sorts of games. Game has done well in the charts a year after release at full price and people are enjoying celebrating that. But fuck positivity right.
Where did I say people shouldn't be happy exactly?

It has also been on those other platforms for about a year now so seeing it holding up well on the Xbox Store is actually quite remarkable.

Lol. Why am i not surprised, you always come into these Xbox threads with some sort of agenda. Xbox owners who just bought the game seem to be happy about it doing well on the store and you show up trying to downplay. Do you only ask for sales numbers when it relates to Xbox?

Again, I wasn't downplaying anything, some of you need to chill attacking everyone that is trying to argue.

Everyone? It's mostly only you. Your previous post came off like you were downplaying and hence the replies. Anyways I think we've derailed a bit. If the game does well on Xbox then chances of seeing more games or even similar titles in the future are higher and that's the goal here so seeing it go higher up on the charts is a very good sign.

That's pretty weak for a digital only release isn't it?

I'm also baffled it's not on sale on steam for the summer sale.

You're so full of it. There is an obscene number of digital only games that never even come close to charting, let alone break the top 10 and surpass the heavy hitters.

...and this is a year old, $50 port that is a genre people think can't do well on Xbox, and are proven wrong.

I was expecting it to bomb so holding off for quick sale, now I'll pick it up next pay.

I don't think it's remarkable. I would expect the same if say Bayonetta 2 or Ni-Oh somehow released on the Xbox.

Not everybody buys every platform.
Well I think it is for a game that has been out for a year on other platforms. I believe it would have done even better had it released on Xbox one same day and date as the PC and PS4 versions.

Sure, remind me which critically acclaimed digital only title on the size of Nier didn't chart during release week?

Wow so happy that its such a great success. It will be interesting to see where it will chart next npd. Ps4 version last year cracked top ten.

The fact that it's a late port and the usual "Japanese games don't really sale on xbox" is often accepted as truth.
It even managing in the top 10 is pretty impressive. Sure it isn't going to outsell the PS4 or PC versions. But if it can keep a good pace, hopefully it means sqaure might reorganize some of their future output to the platform. My hope is that at bare minimum, it covers the cost of being ported and generates a profit. If it hasn't already.

I'm pleased, but I expected it to chart, it's had a TON of positive press through awards and word of mouth for an entire year! I actually think it will do better now than it would have done at a worldwide launch. I bought the original Nier on my 360 on release but I remember it struggled to shift 200,000 copies on Xbox back then, despite a worldwide launch and Xbox having a larger install base than PS3. I am re-buying Automata as a show of support!

I liked the weirdness at first but Nier is not clicking for me now. Did any of you doubt Nier early on and then just "get it" later. I'm afraid to give up on the game because I almost gave up on Dark Souls 3 (my first Soulsbourne game) and only kept going back to it because of the hype. Eventually it clicked and Soulsbourne became one of my favorite group of games ever.

A lot of opinions from gamers I trust love this game. I don't get it yet. I'm might give it another hour before throwing in the towel.

I mean am I imagining something or was Monster Hunter World this successful as well?

Yeah that game was number 1 and even kicked PUBG of the top spot after 2 month being on top. That was a day one release tho.

Hopefully it gets to number one. It's the best 'new' game out for Xbox.

It wont. :)
So far it looks the game is doing what Hellblade did a couple of months back. Also a late release.
But that one was cheaper priced tho. I think the price of Nier is holding it abit back. Reason it does quite well on the Hong Kong and Turkey store because you can get it cheaper there. But not everybody will do that.

How far are you? If your concerns are story-related, then keep going. If it's gameplay-related, then don't force yourself I guess

No one knows but knowing history it will be crapppiest version
If you ignore the Switch, Xbox consoles pretty much always have both the absolute best and absolute worst versions of games between them. It's a weird dynamic. lol

So happy to see more Japanese games on the platform and their success. Not surprised to see some suspects here desperately gagging for some way to discredit that success to keep the ignorant stereotypes about Xbox players around.

Goofy.

Pretty much heard nothing about it's HDR quality, but I'm imagining it's a half baked implementation.....

Anyone care to elaborate?

It's fun to debate how high up in the chart is should be based on various factors.. But it would be a lot more fun with numbers.

Within the forum there must be people who:-

A. Know roughly how much a port costs, either in person months or actual dollars.

B. Piece together roughly how many units sold it might take to chart.

C. Know what to multiply with B to get the developers take

D. Subtract C from A.

And that ignores intangibles like building a fan base and market that you can sell the next game to.

Pricing wise, on the Xbox side we may have been shot in the foot with the DLC inclusion. I assume the publisher looks at the 50 (60?) dollars and compares it to the total price of the game AND DLC, and percieves a big discount.

Because a lot of us haven't played the game yet, we don't really know how good it is, and so have little interest in the DLC at this stage. We therefore attribute 0 value to it, and so we perceive very little discount

I hope that this game sells well on here because my gosh this thing is a freaking masterpiece of a game IMO. I admittedly haven't played a lot of these types of games in the past, but wow this is truly something special and different compared to just a really polished AAA game with much of the same narrative walking adventure gameplay such as God of War.

Great to see that stupid ass narrative debunked. I'm sure this game is selling fantastic on Xbox judging from the reviews it is getting on the store from players. I'm sure it's already making Square a profit and looks good for the future.

Good job, Phil.

Playstation fans have dealt with years of hearing about the insignificance of Japanese games, the insignificance of them affecting hardware sales, the insignificance of them adding to a diverse library. Miraculously now they're the most wanted thing (2017 lineup helped with that). I think XB fans can deal with a little bit of Karma.

It's not like there's no truth to it.

Hence the digital only release.

This chart in no way confirms otherwise.

Your post is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand, and to my post. Projecting insecurities about what "PlayStation fans" had to go through regarding Japaneae games and saying "Xbox fans can deal with Karma" is pure console war nonsense.

And about you saying this chart doesn't confirm anything, an actual mod posted otherwise before he updated the title. I am not sure why certain people keep trying to downplay this topic.

Mods aren't some higher beings that know everything, we don't have any numbers for the game.

As irrelevant as you saying the "stupid ass narrative has been debunked". Ok.

I really don't care how you feel about my post. What i said is true and it's very hypocritical from the XB audience to deny any importance to said games only now to have some epiphany about them. Forgive me if i have no remorse that you're somehow now bothered at a simple factual narrative about the XB audience when PS owners were getting mocked for years.

We have no numbers. Just chart positions. How much did a new release sell to get to 7th?

If I got through the first route of PS4 but never went back, should I keep playing on PS4 or is this upgrade on the X worth getting and starting over?
