I don't know how petty it's considered, but two things in Xenoblade 2. I love grinding especially in the early game, but in X2 grinding in the early game is really tedious. Enemies give pitance xp and so I attempt to fight stronger enemies, I fight for all I'm worth and the reward is nothing. Basically for how long fights take, they pay out very little rewards which leads me to believe you are intended to just play through the story. It's just not how I roll. My comparison is FFXII and FFXV where there are many awesome grinding locations and being efficient and finding the best areas is satisfying and I simply didn't feel it from X2.

Also I hate unsheathing my weapons. It was the straw that broke the camels back.

I'm way less likely to play a game if the main character is old or ugly.

Oh and I won't play multiplayer only games without offline bots.

Overzealous fans kill me. I'll probably never play undertale because of how obnoxious the fans were/are. I also can't stand to talk about Bloodborne anymore (despite enjoying it) because the fans are so hyperbolic and you can't have a conversation without the game being called an "absolute treat."

Maybe it's more of a genre bias than petty or irrational, but I also steer clear of "walking sims" and ugly adventure games.

Games that automatically put the player into NG+ after beating them. Only one I can name off the top of my head is Bloodborne. I did everything in the game but the DLC. Moved onto the DLC and I feel like I'm done with the game. It sucks. I wanna beat the game and then come back to it for the DLC in the future, but I can't. It's such bad design that it actually makes me like the game quite a bit less; Bloodborne went from being a great game to just a really good game to me for such a small and petty reason.

1st person view. Not being able to see my character takes something away from my enjoyment of the game. There are exceptions where I can deal with it (999, VLR), but by and large I don't play first person games. Tend to get a headache after a while

Collector's/Special/Pre-Order editions.

I'll still buy the base game, but whenever I see some Collector's Edition launched for a game I don't even know if I'll like or not, it just irks me. Pre-ordering is a cancer on the industry.

"Crafting" in actiony games -- think Far Cry, Last of Us, Evil Within. Who actually enjoys this?
This, I don't understand the appeal. All it introduces is tedium.

I'd second the waifu thing but I'm on board with husbandos so I'd be a hypocrite I guess.

Games that flaunt their difficulty in their trailers/marketing/etc. That's not to say I don't like challenging games, but it'll cause me to hesitate on buying it, every time. It doesn't really make sense.

"THE TOUGHEST INDIE PLATFORMER EVERRR!" Nope, skip for me.

"...deep and challenging gameplay." I'm interested.

Fan bases for me really turn me off of certain games. Peoples unwillingness to accept that other have different opinions is another - mainly when talking about specific games (undertale is one example, but there's loads more). Arduous and painful tutorials really get me going too...going to turn the game off that is.
I'm way less likely to play a game if the main character is old or ugly.
I'm not making fun of you or anything, please don't think that and I apologize if I come across as I am, but this is pretty unique to me. Imo, one of the great games of all time must be totally off limits for you then- the original Nier. The main character was specifically designed to be both old AND ugly...though I just found him to be mostly old...

If you haven't played it, it's a bit archaic with some of the mechanics, but the game itself as a total package is sensational. And the "sequel" is even better, in every way. Complemented with young & hot anti-humans, to boot :D

Games with these these types of artstyle, setting, theme just don't interest me. The gameplay are generally the same, either fps, cinematic experience, and the graphics and color palette are somehow consistent across these games. I would give them a chance and but a few hours in I would quit and never touch them again.

Most of the posts here just list actual grievances.

I'd consider a petty reason something that exists outside of the game, like obnoxious fanbases. They've put me off several games but I always ended up buying and enjoying them eventually: Dark Souls 1, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4... basically games where I didn't manage to get the game at launch and was met by annoying fuckwits in every thread. The same would have happened with BotW if I hadn't been too busy to pay attention to message boards.

Bingo.

I've even tried to use terms like "games enthusiasts" or "games players" to absolutely, and in complete spiteful pettiness, avoid using the term "gamer" or "fan" and try to provide a more positive spin or distinction that shies away from the implicit qualities of identification of either of those terms.

Truly petty, and I will own that... But I'm jaded to the point where I think pointing to some larger unifying term or idea empowers some really shitty behavior in this industry, and often to its own detriment.

Acknowledging this, however, I'm trying to move past it somehow. I keep hitting a bit of a wall.

Could you explain how GTA is similar to Witcher 2 , or how COD BLOPS is similar to Fight Night Round 3? Or how about Dead Space 2 is similar to Bulletstorm? Mass Effect to Bionic Commando? Art style, gameplay, themes. How are they similar? I am really interested

Ubisoft formula for big open world games. I haven't touched any of their games in years because their generation of PS3/360 games repelled me so much.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Fuck the main characters dumb shorts

Lol while I liked the game that was one of my negatives. I couldn't stand looking at him.

For me it's games that look like they belong in other generations. For example 16 bit graphics, etc. I'll still check some of the games out if they look interesting enough, but I tend to drop them faster then I would otherwise.

The big reason I stopped playing marvel vs capcom infinite is just the incessant negative vibes and memes surrounding the game.

There are games I will never play because the person who recommended them has endorsed other media I don't enjoy.

Anytime this person gives me a recommendation, I know I'm fine never experiencing it.

I'm wary of a lot of 90+ rated games, and by the time that I get round to them I'm almost looking for something to be wrong.

It's dumb, but I can't help it.

I stopped playing Hyrule Warriors because I didn't like the narrator's voice acting. I am also skipping out on getting Smash Bros Ultimate because they swapped out Link for the Breath of the Wild version.

Ubisoft and tower galore.

That's Breath of the Wild in a nutshell.

Weapon durability. BoTW does so much interesting and crazy shit mechanically... couldn't get through it because I fucking hated the weapon durability that much.

Same, the weapon durability add nothing to the game only exist as a reason for the player to explore.

Games with too many in-game stats, RPG-style.

I want my game simple and clean, not overcomplicated with hundred of stuff to equip if like 90% is useless/underleveled stuff. Less than 10 stuff total is enough or just do some point that you distribute among you stats system when level up.

Otherwise I will try to get some overleveled stuff and only equip that to wreak my enemies even if it look weird.

The font in Terraria.

Lots and lots of pixel art games that cheat at scaling and rotation or mix different pixel sizes.

Won't buy Hat in Time because it features JohnTron. Don't know if that counts as irrational, but the thought of even putting a fraction of a cent in that piece of trash's pocket is enough to keep me far away.

Indie game Duskers was that for me. It could've been this cool 1980s Aliens-looking experience, but they did stuff like use some janky OCR font for all the terminals. And terminals are practically the whole interface. Also bad pixel scaling. It seemed like a cool premise, but the design of the UI just had no care applied to it. I'm assuming it was just a programmer doing it without any help from a designer.

I don't play annualized games. Ever. Never bought a Call of Duty, Battlefield or any sports games.
Their disposable nature just rubs me the wrong way.

Bad UI with no options to turn it off.

Timers added for no reason that have fail states. I don't mind having them for those who want the challenge but they should be optional.

Artificial difficulty, meaning things are just scaled against the player vs actual skill required in being better at mechanics the game offers during gameplay.

Poor save systems. Oh I can't stop here? Welp I'm out.

Online required even for single player.

No bots for offline play in mp games.

This image should be banned. Not because it offends me but because it makes the entire forum seem really really stupid overall. It dumbs us all down.

#1 biggest cause of my dropping a game instantly is bad or no character creation.

I've reached a point in my life where I'm no longer interested in playing a game with a set (male) protagonist unless it happens to be a game where said protagonist is not visible and ultimately irrelevant to the picture (like in, say, DOOM). Including a weak character creator is, in my mind, even worse than just not having one, as it represents wasted effort and also makes clear that the dev team either bit off more than they could chew or literally could not conceive of people like me playing their game.

Petty? Yes. Don't care, though. My time is already too well-occupied for me to waste my time on things that I consider mediocre or just... not for me.

If RPG elements feel tacked on as padding for the player to have something to do or feel progression.

I do this all the time. Most recently I quit Quest of Dungeons a few minutes in because I couldn't stand the fonts, especially the ones in the title screen. I didn't last long with Blossom Quest because it didn't have the ALTTP screen scroll and instead fades to black between zones.
