I used to play a lot of Drowned God when I was like 8, I was super into adventure games. Super strange game.

The game fucking goes on forever too lol...not sure how obscure it was seeing as how it had an X-play review.

I had a 20 year kaiju love affair....that died with Godzilla 2014....yet somehow subsisted through Godzilla 99...*shrugs*

Project Minerva Professional on PS2.

Really clunky third-person shooter with team-based mechanics. I played it to completion like three times, no idea why, it was pretty bad.

I played Battery Check bunch. Was this promotional game about recycling batteries. It has no Wikipedia or Gamefaqs entry, but searching for "Battery Check game" gets plenty of screens.
I think it's because it was made with the same Jazz Jackrabbit 2 engine, so people into making levels for that game took note of it.

Kessen II, it was surprisingly long, and a ton of fun. Too bad Kessen III I didn't find as enjoyable. Wish Koei would make a modern Kessen akin to how Kessen II was.

Crush, Crumble, and Chomp! from Epyx, specifically the Atari 800 version:
images
crush-crumble-and-chomp_8.png

A quasi real-time turn-based strategy game, where you control a kaiju and terrorized one of five major metropolitan cities. Depending on the scenario, you got points for sheer survival, eating civilians, destroying buildings, or attacking military units. You'd eventually die from attrition and hunger, but if you played it right you could last a very long time. The disk version even included a make-your-own-monster feature so you could (mentally) recreate any monster or war machine you wanted to. Includes a hilariously sly game manual written by Jon Freeman, best known for creating the 8-bit classic game Archon.

Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise

This was an early 90s point and click adventure game that was distributed via floppy discs, played this a ton when I was young.

Not entirely obscure and I'm sure there's older games that less people played however this was probably the biggest time investment I had into a free GWG or PS Plus game ever, maybe aside from Rogue Legacy in the same month...

I actually remember a better one... which I didn't post before because I actually forgot the name, ha

Medieval Chess for DOS. It's chess, but with realtime battles. I find one image on Google between a pile of Battle Chess images. Adding "atari" at the end gives two images atleast. There's also a Youtube upload of the Atari version. Other than that I can't find a lot of info on it. Not even on abandonware sites.

I remember playing a lot of "Bouncers" on the Sega CD as a kid, definitely not as obscure as a lot of what has been posted here so far, though

Space Crusher. I bought it at Radio Shack in 1986, played the shit out of it back then, and still own it.

Probably something like Fish on the Acorn Archimedes in the after school computer club.

We're talking about a text adventure fish simulator and if that isn't obscure, I don't know what is

Think Quick.

Treasure Mountain.

Brix.

Elsasto Mania.

Pocket Tanks.

Kung Fu Chess.

These are all old, simple PC games. Some older and more basic then others. Some are DOS, some are like browser/free games too.

I loved them, truly loved them all.

Oh, Elasto Mania takes me back to my childhood! Fun fact: a guy I know is one of the best Elasto Mania players in the world. Zweq.

Mystic Adventure. It was a text based MUD (multi user dungeon) that I played through my uni's telnet back in the day.

Probably this weird game back in the Windows 95 days that came in a 30-games in 1!!! package or something. It was a 2D puzzle game where you played as the head of a caveman, and the object was to move around the screen, eat all the cabbage, and not get crushed by boulders. Think Dig Dug, kinda, where if you created an empty space below a boulder it would crush you. There were lots of levels.

If anyone actually knows the name of this game I would be impressed because I've forgotten

Edit: Oh! And you could make your own levels too

Edit2: Seems similar to the Boulder Dash games, and likely a ripoff of those

Edit3: Found it! "Watch Out, Willi!"

I can' t believe somebody else played this, I spent so many hours in the level editor. The best part was all the different themes, like you could make a sci-fi level where the boulders were metal crates and the cabbages turned into power pellets or some such thing. That game collection was actually really legit, there was a version of snake in there with a pretty robust level editor too. Now I make game environments as my profession, so in a weird way these games helped start me on the path to my career. Funny how that works sometimes.

Metrocross_arcadeflyer.png

I have been playing Metro Cross regularly since 1986. First down the arcades, then the European home computer version, then the PlayStation Namco Museum one, and finally I bought an original arcade PCB and play it as often as I can.

Came across a making of video on YouTube which really made me realise how old the game was now.

My favourite game.

If only the E key on your keyboard was broken, you'd have found it! It's OK Yah, as in what yuppies and '80s UK stereotypes of posh people used to say.

That's it! Not a great game by any means but it has the Flappy Bird quality of bone simple mechanics and crushing difficulty. Though by the look of the video, this player was far more successful than I ever was.

It's actually playable of Archive dot org! And it includes this magnificent cover!

Challenge of the Five Realms

I love that game !! I finish it like 10+ times easy, trying to get different party member, even killing NPC to bypass quest to get their crown, you could only kill 3 civiliant before getting a game over so... Trying so much build....

133794-stay-tooned-macintosh-front-cover.jpg

I played through this game countless times as a kid. It's a point and click adventure with various mini games. It takes place in an apartment building and each room is a different level, with the rooms mostly being randomized for each playthrough (4A, 2B, and 5D are always the same). There are a few more possible levels than there are rooms in the game, so you won't always see certain games. I think I had just about every secret and glitch memorized. I played it enough times that I even encountered the incredibly unlikely scenario where the game is impossible to beat due to there not being enough obtainable keys. This scenario is made even rarer since there's a bugged key that can be obtained infinite times, so that room exists on the first 4 floors you can't get stuck.

I still have the Toonvision glasses lol.

I played nearly every single Half-Life mod I could. Loved many of them.

Canned Tuna. Action Half-Life. Frozen (?). The list goes on and on. I've forgotten the names of many of them at this point.
Did you ever play Frontline Force? It came out in 2000 as sort of an alternative to Counter-Strike. Lots of top-tier CS players actually migrated over, including a fair number from DoP and W.E.W. I ended up moving over from CS too, and I ended up getting hooked up with a clan that ended up being the top clan in the game for over a year (Reign of Terror). It ended up being a flash-in-the-pan for most players though and they went right back to CS. I ended up sticking with it for a long time, mainly because I was in the top clan, even if I wasn't in the active team that was winning all the matches. It was such a strange game from a design perspective; the damage model was the complete inverse of CS, so guns did basically no damage, while nades were essentially small nuclear arms. It was a tremendous amount of fun, but it couldn't keep its community as CS blew up and started having tournaments with actual prize money. It deserved better than obscurity.

Not even a game, a mod

Hidden: Source

Basically 1 dude is meele only against 5 full armed dudes but he's invisible.

Aw man, this mod was such a blast. I love asymetrical multiplayer done right, and this had the perfect amount of tension and compellingly matched mechanics.

The Gold of the Kast. A really fun little kids' point-and-click romp from 2000, created with Klik & Play, and distributed on a demo disc with an early issue of Planet PC, a magazine you're sure as fuck not able to obtain. I wouldn't be surprised if I were the only person currently in a position to upload and preserve this game, which I should sooner or later. You will find nothing on Google but a previous ResetEra post of mine. I often went back to this as a little kid without internet access. While playing archaeologist a while ago, I looked up and emailed the creator – apparently a well-known artist in the furry community who ended up working on Banjo-Kazooie! Pleasant fellow.

Crazy Drake on PC.

I remember getting a 4 disc compilation of PC arcade games, and this was one of them. It's pretty much discount Earthworm Jim, but this was actually pretty decent.

I've played much more obscure japanese indie games, but I gotta mention Machines: Wired for War. Released in 1999, I think this was (one of?) the first RTS game that let you control an individual unit in First Person Shooter mode. It has a very very small but dedicated fanbase still it seems so there is still info and vids, but I never see it mentioned on general gaming forums ever lol.

The intro still gets me pumped
