Shame that Ghosted is getting canceled. Show never really had a chance to get a good footing.
First half of the season was an OK comedy X-Files/Fringe, but since it came back it basically became The Office/Parks and Rec but for a secret government office. It's been funny the last few episodes, but disappointing that they took out nearly all of the sci-fi stuff (replacing it with a spying plot).

Definitely made me miss having a show like Parks and Rec on the air. It's a pretty simple formula (get a group of funny characters together in a work space), and these last few episodes were really nailing the feeling, but knowing that none of it will go anywhere is definitely a bummer.

France has some very weird protectionist laws about VOD that may indeed have help cause this, but;

Maybe but nah... The demise of Canal Plus and CanalPlay is simply called Vivendi.

Bolloré quiclky destroyed everything that was good about the channels as soon as he acquired them. So they lost a shit ton of subscribers, and now, since i guess they are on a much tighter budget than before, they had no choice to cancel Canal Play who indeed had no competing chance against Netflix and Amazon.

Netflix Orders Martial Arts Drama Series 'Wu Assassins' Starring Iko Uwais
Netflix has given a 10-episode order to Wu Assassins, martial arts sci-fi crime drama series starring Iko Uwais (The Raid, Star Wars: The Force Awakens). It hails from Tony Krantz of Flame Ventures (24), John Wirth (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles; Falling Skies) and Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell on Wheels).

Byron Mann (The Expanse) co-stars in the series, slated for an August 8 production start. Steven Fung will direct the first two episodes, with Krantz expected to helm another. In addition to playing the lead, Uwais also will serve as producer, lead martial arts and fight choreographer and stunt coordinator.

Written by Wirth, who also serves as showrunner, Wu Assassins, set in San Francisco's Chinatown, is a martial arts crime series with supernatural elements. It stars Uwais as Kai Jin, who becomes the latest and last Wu Assassin, chosen to round up the powers of an ancient triad and restore balance once again. Mann plays Uncle Six.

So is there a deathwatch for Viceland?
In my heart there sure is one.

But like also NY Mag: Vice Media was built on a bluff are not the headlines of a healthy company.
(at least they unlike go90 and Fullscreen got headlines on bigger media sites)

I mean a lot of it is on Vivendi/Bolloré, but weird quirks like not being able to stream the shows they made for their cable network can't have helped.
Neat.

Are you referring to SEAL Team?
Yes, and there isn't much point in arguing any qualities you might see in it to me, I have strong opinions on that entire sub-genre of shows. Which may come across since I refer to that sub-genre as "jingoistic bullshit".
If (and let's stress that it is an if) the THR rumours are true, I can't say I'm overly shocked:
Sources also say news of the cancellation was considered a relief for many members of the production. Star Thorne and showrunner King are said to have clashed on multiple occasions, with the actress exhibiting what sources described as "diva-like behavior" on set. Sources note Thorne actively wanted off of Famous in Love, with the actress and social media star having refused to participate in Freeform-organized live-tweets during its second season.

Same. The only reason for these types of shows is to catch those types of people.

Yeah that first half was pretty bad but when it came back I was like wait a minute, they are pulling an office here now? Looked it up and the guy who played Toby was the new showrunner. It was getting really good, too bad they didn't start out with that formula.

Yeah.... nah.
Nobody can enjoy a dumb fun military show unless they are a Trumpster or far right?

SEAL Team is just dumb fun with a likeable star(and supporting cast) with extremely high production value with scenes typically only relegated to just movies or at least something bigger like Last Ship(which I also enjoy but its a different and more silly niche)
It was also nice that it wasn't played out Afghan/Iraq stuff until the last arc of the season but the twist was the PMC working with them was behind all of it.

Six on the other hand always felt like it was trying too hard to be serious.
I can agree with you on it(I couldn't make it past a few episodes)

The Brave was even lower tier however the main cast really carried that show, just a group of diverse likeable people. everything else was secondary

Valor doesn't even fit in comparison because its 50% romance drama and the other half is about CIA shit(killing its own agents, giving nuclear material to warlords to stage shit) and coverups.
hell it ends on the reveal that
MC's boyfriend's mom(a senator) was the big boss all along

TNT's Snowpiercer adaptation continues to be its own kind of trainwreck.
Scott Derrickson, who helmed Josh Friedman's initial pilot, says new showrunner Graeme Manson's vision is "radically different."

Four months after tapping a new showrunner for the drama based on the feature film of the same name, pilot director Scott Derrickson is declining to return for reshoots as part of the show's new vision.

"The 72-page Snowpiercer TV pilot script by @Josh_Friedman is the best I've ever read. The feature-length pilot I made from that script may be my best work. The new showrunner has a radically different vision for the show. I am forgoing my option to direct the extreme reshoots," he tweeted Friday afternoon. Derrickson's directing credits include Doctor Strange and The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Friedman took to Twitter to explain his ouster from the series he developed. "I didn't 'exit' over creative differences. TNT insisted that I be removed from showrunning duties because they didn't think I'd be compliant. Hopefully they found someone to their liking," he wrote in February.

Orphan Black co-creator Graeme Manson was tapped in February to take over as showrunner on the drama.

In May, Friedman blasted his successor's etiquette when Manson failed to get in touch with him before taking over. "If you're asked to rewrite someone or take over their show it seems like good sense and good karma to reach out to that person first and a) find out what the circumstances of their departure are and b) thank them for doing the work you'll be profiting from," he wrote. "You should buy that person a nice meal or a bottle of alcohol if they're up for it. Your money was earmarked for them at one time. And more than likely, what may be a good job for you was a passion project for them," he added. "Put another way: if you were to take over a show I'd originated and worked on for two years and didn't reach out to me before taking the job you're either an idiot, a coward, or a vichy motherfucker."

Wasn't there another one or two martial arts tv shows in the works? Wonder if they are still happening.

Warrior at Cinemax is, I think, still filming but they may have wrapped production on the first season already.

Tong Wars at Amazon received a series order but I have no idea where it's at right now.

Tong Wars at Amazon received a series order but I have no idea where it's at right now.
Wong Kar-Wai is directing it so it'll be gorgeous looking but it'll also debut in 2025.

As for real news, it seems like the show is entering principal photography in July 2018 and ending in January.
This was back in December, so late news, but here are the character descriptions:
Vicky Sun: Vicky, a woman in her 70s who runs a global criminal network. She began her life in the US as a slave girl growing up in a brothel, and rose to become the richest woman in 1970s San Francisco. "Imperious, volatile, cunning, stylish, educated, with a cutting sense of humor, altogether fabulous," the casting call says of Vicky.

Tom Sun: Tom is the adoptive gangster father of Vicky. A revolutionary fugitive from southern China, Tom flees to the US and becomes a killer for hire during the street wars between Chinese gangs. He has two wives living with him in the brothel, and eventually falls in love with a wealthy, married white woman. It looks like Tong Wars might feature a spot of martial arts—at any rate, it's listed as a plus point for the actor trying out for this role.

Lo Mo: Mo appears to be one of Tom's wives, and runs the brothel. A shrewd and dominant figure, she directs and molds Tom with her knowledge of her society and its players. She has developed a fondness for opium to deaden her rage.

Johnny Young: An orphaned teenager, Young is raised on the streets by his fellow members of a Chinese gang that seems slated to go to war with Vicky's criminal empire. "Violence, after all, is how Vicky understands love. Johnny reminds her of Tom and herself."

Derrickson publicly speaking out against this is interesting. Clearly trying to apply public pressure. Feels like this show may not even happen, but we'll see... I mean if they're willing to throw out a completely shot feature-length pilot...
I have to give him props for standing by Friedman, especially at this stage when there's virtually no chance they'd reverse course after a few months of redevelopment. I'd love to know how much this is screwing around with the actors and their commitments. The pilot originally shot last September, the series was picked up in January, and now this stuff?
