I do the dishes by hand almost every night and it causes my fingertips to dry out and crack up almost every time. My hands were the best they had been in some time, because I took a vacation this week and didn't do any. Then, as soon as I finished doing five minutes' worth of dishes tonight, my fingertips became dry again.

I use Glysomed and Working Hands. They sometimes help. Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem. I keep a tube of lotion by the door and in my office, always use gloves for any cleaning and what not. When it gets really bad I use tight rubber gloves in the shower. I probably look like kind of serial killer showering in yellow dish gloves but hey, cracked skin hurts.

I'm super bald and no matter how carefully I shave and how often I exfoliate I always have little bumps on my head (and forehead, so that discounts shaving entirely) that are either pimples or baby acnies. Is there anything to fix that? I exfoliate like daily and moisturize when I need it.

I remember my mom using pink rubber gloves when she did the dishes years ago, but that was when I was a child. I haven't seen anyone use gloves like that in a long time. I generally do the dishes and my roommate likes to do the cooking, so my hands get pretty dry, and that is also made worse by my dishydrosis. It's almost disappeared for the likely brief time being.

I use Dawn dish soap, the stuff they say is so gentle it can help animals caught in oil spills, but my hands were only in the water for five minutes and became dry quickly.

I'm going to have to look for better gloves. Walmart didn't have a lot to choose from, or I didn't look in the right place.

Sometimes your skin is so dry you'll break out. Try moisturizing more regularly. You may have to test a few moisturizers out before you find one that works for you.

Finally CeraVe arrived in my country, so I bought the PM lotion (to use it in the morning) and the cream for the night. I thought that after trying like 10 moisturizers this would be the answer to my dry areas in my face, but I had no luck :(.
I even bought thermal water to spray it on my face before moisturizing and I still have that tightening sensation. The tightening happens some minutes after I wash my face (with or without a cleanser, warm water and cold water).
Today I bought the CeraVe foaming cleanser to replace the Neutrogena cleanser that I use (Ultra gentle foaming formula. The formulation here doesn't have fragance), just to try if the cleanser is the problem (but I doubt it).
I want to rip the skin off my face, I hate that tightening sensation :(

Found the CeraVe Facial Lotion PM today at the drugstore. I didn't know the brand was already available here, but I'm glad it is! Especially because it contains Niacinamide and it was out of stock when I made my order at The Ordinary.

Currently, I follow a [simplified] Korean PM routine: Double cleansing (Bioré Cleansing Oil + Bioderma Sebium Purifying Foaming Gel), then a light watery toner (now I'm using Sulwhasoo First Care Toner), my current essence (The Face Shop Snail+EGF Repairing Essence) and here as my emulsion, I plan to insert the CeraVe Lotion, since it is very lightweight and contains the Niacinamide I was looking for.

But I have a texture problem here because I love my rosehip/sunflower/tea tree oil mix, it really made wonders for my skin, but when I apply over the snail essence it starts peeling off. As a moisturizer, I'm using the Clean&Clear Moisturizer since it contains salicylic acid and it really works to stop/prevent some little breakouts I can have sometimes.

If I mix a few drops of my face oil into my this moisturizer it will prevent the salicylic acid to penetrate my skin? Or it's okay to mix them as a last, hydration-locking step?

Reposting this and adding a new question: Is it ok to use the CeraVe PM Lotion in the morning? It made WONDERS for my skin. It is so much brighter and my pores are better than they ever been, so thinking about using it as my morning moisturizer too. Also, can I mix low doses of niacinamide and lactic acid? And what about including Vitamin C in the same routine?

Going to finally try some of the Korean skincare... Not going too crazy straight away, but thinking of getting the Tiam My Signature Red C Serum and one of those snail extract moisturiser/serums... any recommendations? Or experience with the ingredient? Not sure if I'm just buying into marketing :p

When it comes to sunscreen, it doesn't get any more gentle than Thinkbaby.

EDIT: Abort, abort. It has triglycerides. Maybe a liquid sunscreen like the Paula's Choice SPF Fluid?

I'd avoid the Biore regardless of skin type. It's problematic.
What don't you like about the Biore SPF? I've been using their watery essence and am finding it to be okay, mainly because it's so light. I've got dark skin and it's the first SPF I've used which doesn't leave a white cast. I guess that's because it's a chemical spf?

i often use night creams during the day in winter, afaik the only issue is whether or not you find it too thick. also i don't know about mixing niacinamide with lactic acid, but it's fine to mix it with vit c (as long as you have a lot of spf during the day), there are a lot of outdated claims about how they'll neutralise each other so that's why you may have heard that before.

Thanks a lot for the info! I think the main problem people have with the Bioré is that it contains a lot of alcohol. I'm currently finishing 2 bottles of Bioré sunscreen, one of the Aqua Rich and one of the Perfect Milk. I usually use the second the days my skin is kinda upset and I don't want to layer a primer underneath my makeup, but the skin must be moisturized otherwise it will make it feel horribly tight and also leave a white cast. When my skin is more resistant I use the Aqua Rich since it's more hydrating, but it requires a primer. Both never gave me any problems (except a little oiliness from the Aqua Rich), but my skin is very resistant to alcohol.

Geez I wish there was something preventing me from constantly squeezing my skin. It's probably the biggest factor of preventing my acne to decrease but I cannot help it. I noticed it especially when I am stressed or unhappy. Already using medication but whenever I feel it's getting better it seemingly turns around again. The fight against acne gets really annoying and tiring. I have this shit for nearly ten years know, I think. It's not even that I am ashamed of the acne (I never was, to be honest) but the habit of squeezing is terrible and on bad days makes my whole face hurt.

Started using Paula's Choice 2% BHA two nights ago. Obviously no noticeable differences yet, but the tip to apply a few drops to one clean palm and then use my fingers from my other hand to apply it to my face worked so much better than the cotton ball method that the bottle recommended. Wasted a lot less of it and still got a thin coating across my face without issue.

Here's my current routine. Anything I'm doing "wrong" with what I have so far?

1) Shower at night
2) Wash face in shower using Olay Gentle Clean Foaming Cleanser (I apply it via my hands most nights, but once or twice a week I'll use a soft, wet wash cloth to apply it, then rinse with water either way)
3) Pat dry face after the shower
4) Apply a thin later of Paula's Choice 2% BHA across my face and then go to bed within ~15 minutes
5) In the morning, I use Kiss My Face SPF 30 about 20 minutes before I head out for the day

I'm not necessarily looking to add more products to my routine, but just making sure nothing with this routine seems bad. For example, should I be applying a face lotion before/after using the BHA? I take warm showers (not extremely hot, but definitely not cool or cold) and am wondering if the warm shower plus face wash plus BHA would risk my face drying out? I'm not sure what kind of effects BHA can have on your skin if using it daily.

Do you apply an SPF in the morning?

I do! Can't leave the house without applying it. I use two Bioré sunscreens: Aqua Rich and Perfect Milk, both SPF 50+. I also use a Missha cushion bb cream with SPF 50 on top of that, and my setting powder has an SPF 30.

Another question: I have a hard time applying some products, especially in the evening routine. I'm reducing the amount of each product I use, but in the most skincare routine videos I watch, people put the tiniest drop on their hands and press it on the face, and this doesn't make sense to me. I can't feel the product is properly working unless I spread it evenly all over my face (even if it is a thin layer), and then pat it gently until it's dry, but I'm afraid I might be ruining the layering process doing that, dragging away the previous product I applied.

Missha is having a 30% off sale right now on their site, just FYI.
oh bless, good time to try out some new products! If anyone has any specific suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

You should cut down the BHA usage to once every two or three days depending on your skin type. Use a lotion at night as well, after your Paula's Choice exfoliant.

Don't post much in this thread, but as someone with Psoriasis I've got a bit of a surprise from my latest treatment. I've had to abandon the ones provided by the NHS as they cause my flares to get a lot worse. In fact the last time I used the Dovobet ointment it tripled the size of the area on my left hand within an hour and I've been stuck with it for months since. At 29 I'm not really down with using injections to lower my immune system to treat it yet and I'd really rather kick beer and weed before taking that road. I've also found that with Dovobet while it would clear the flare up it still had a slight brownish tint to the area which would eventually flare up again over time and you can't use these treatments too liberally as they're a bit volatile, so it was an endless cycle.

I read about a cream sometime last year called Dermalex Psoriasis that mostly caught my interest as it was an oil free cream that soaks in, rather than the steroid loaded ointment that you can't get on any non effected areas and is an oil ridden nightmare to deal with in your daily routine. I was gonna buy some but I saw on Amazon a lot of people said it just works like any other moisturiser and doesn't actually help at all. I was disappointed but assumed this is why it's a paid only treatment and not available through my doctor. Anyway fast forward to Sunday last week and my fiance came home with a tube of it and since I had it here I figured I'll give it a shot. It claims to repair the skin barrier underneath as well as clear up the flares, which I assume is what the brown tint was before.

It's been 2 days and I've not applied it even 10 times but I can see these large patches I've been stuck with for years now breaking down, and not just the red patches. It almost looks like pathways through the flares where it's clearing to the actual skin color and the skin is flattening back down too, there's no obvious bump that would typically be left. I'm sure in some way this reads like an ad but I'm just really damn happy to actually have something finally working. I'm getting married in just over a month and the idea of not having psoriasis on my left hand is actually looking like a reality.

Typically I wouldn't really make this sort of post but most of all I wanted to say, if anyone reads this post who has Psoriasis and hasn't given this cream a try yet, or any others that you may have brushed off, at least give it a go once. I wrote it off as just another thing that won't help too, and there's every chance it won't still, but don't be an idiot like me and actually give up looking for the thing that works for you.

I've seen people say only exfoliate twice a week, but the bottle for Paula's Choice Exfoliating Solution says 1-3 times daily. Is it just dependent on how dry your skin gets?

It depends on the concentration of the exfoliant active ingredient. If you have an exfoliant with a higher percentage (and they are usually masks, like The Ordinary's AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution), it should be used 1-2 times a week. But if you have an exfoliant toner, with a lower concentration (and I think this is the Paula's Choice Exfoliating Solution case), it is mild enough to be used daily or on alternate days, depending on the resistance of your skin. If you use it daily and feel the skin too tingly or burning, you should use it on alternate days. Scrubs must be used only 1-2 times a week without exception.

Is cleanser the same as exfoliant? Would I be ok with using CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer x2 each day?

They are not the same thing. The cleanser is meant to clean your skin and remove the superficial impurities on it, sebum, dirt, makeup, etc. It's a basic skincare step. The exfoliant is more of a treating step (even though it can prevent a lot of things, like acne and blackheads). It's meant to renew your skin at a deeper level, removing dead skin cells, cleaning inside the pores and making the skin absorb the next treatments you put on it. I agree with most posters on this thread that chemical exfoliation is way better than physical exfoliation (our well-known scrubs with sugar, plastic, etc). As I said above, you can either opt for a daily or a weekly exfoliant and both are good to go.

Now, if you don't do anything for your skin, starting with cleansing and moisturizer is already way better than nothing, even though I would suggest you include a chemical exfoliant, even if it's a weekly one.

Got rid of my dyshidrosis for about 3 days, now it's back. I went to the doctor yesterday and got more of the same steroid cream. It works okay, but nothing really makes it go away for long and I hate that it now cracks my skin and creates embarrassing and disgusting open sores.

Gonna buy new cleanser, should I go with Cetaphil or Cerave?

Cetaphil is good. I used it years ago after having it prescribed. Worked well.

Anyone here use this?

  • Does it actually make a difference for dark circles, and if so, how long till effects are visible?
  • Is it a good brand?

Yeah it's a pretty good brand. It might make your dark circles less noticeable by hydrating your skin but don't expect dramatic or permanent changes. I used that product for a while and it was basically just a solid moisturizer.

My skin is very oily, and I routinely get razor burns when I shave my face. It actually becomes a little painful to shave the day after I shave... not the best way to put it, but what I mean to say is I need to let some time to pass (at least two days) before I shave again, otherwise the experience is a little painful. I have lots of facial blemishes throughout my face, including some brown spots.

I took the plunge and tried to follow what's in the OP. I bought:

For Cleanser: Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser (almost exactly what was suggested in the OP, except I got the "oily" version of the product instead of the "gentle skin cleanser".
For Exfoliant: Couldn't find what Leona Lewis suggested exactly, but I bought Clinique 7-day Scrub Cream Rinse-off Formula
For Sunscreen/Moisturizer: Kiss My Face Face SPF 30

I have the cleanser and exfoliant with me now. It'll take 25 days approximately for my sunscreen to reach me. Is this routine good to help improve my skin?

*Every morning before going to work: Rinse off face with Cetaphil cleanser, and before going outside, put on Kiss My Face moisturizer/sunscreen
*Every night before sleep: Rinse off face with Cetaphil cleanser, and place Clinique 7-day scrub on face for five or so minutes, then rinse off.

Two things quickly...

1. Thank you to everyone who's made suggestions. I appreciate that the OP created this, I've adopted some of the recommended suggestions and my face has made drastic improvements.

2. I have really bad acne on my back. Would anyone be willing to make a suggestion? I try to exfoliate my back every 2 days or so. I've been moisturizing with cetaphil as well. I feel like I need something else to get my skin clearer.

Thanks!

I jused "Olay Quench Body Lotion Ultra Moisture" as a night moisturer and I felt stinging/burning sensation on the skin around my eyes for about 4-5 minutes after applying it. Is everything ok? Should I change something?

I've been using:
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid (every couple of days)
Nivea urban skin protect SPF 20 (I couldn't find any recomendations from the thread here in Sweden)
and lastly Olay Quench Body Lotion Ultra Moisture

for about 6-7 days now. Never used any lotion or cream except during vacation. First few days there was none of this burning sensation but yesterday there and today there was.

Any help and tips would be appreciated :)

What kind of exfoliation? Physical or chemical? AFAIK the back is a little bit more hardy than the skin on our faces and can probably withstand more regular chemical exfoliation such as a BHA/salicylic acid. If you sleep naked, keep your bedclothes clean.

how long should i wait after exfoliating to apply the next steps of my routine?

I usually wait 10 minutes minimum for any actives. Idk if it really improves the effectiveness.

Stop using it all over and use it somewhere less potentially irritating/visible. Patch test some on the back of a hand and/or behind your ear. It could be a bad reaction or it could just be that your eyes are sensitive to it.

If patch testing it doesn't result in any issues, try using it again and be extra careful around the eye area.

I have Humane Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Acne Treatment that I've used for the last month. I try to apply it in the shower, let it sit for 2 minutes and then rinse it off with soap and water. Additionally, I try to do a physical exfoliation 1-2 times a week. After showering, I apply Cetaphil lotion. I've seen some improvement over the course of a month.

So I'm actually doing K-Beauty for almost 2 weeks now and my skin never felt so good.

I have combination skin and now I don't see any dry patches anymore, and my oily t-zone has been reduced a lot.

Sorry to repost but I was hoping for some feedback. To a) Make sure overall my routine is okay, and b) To see if I have truly made a mistake with my choice of "exfoliant".

I have really oily skin, I have some facial blemishes and razor burns from shaving.

I bought Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser, as my cleanser, Kiss My Face Face Factor SPF 30 as my sunscreen, and Clinique 7-Day Scrub Cream Rinse-off Formula as my exfoliant. The routine below seems like what I should obviously do but I just want to be sure. My questions are a) How is the routine below looking, and b) Should I bite the bullet, do away with the Clinique product, and hunt down one of the AHA/BHA products that Leona Lewis suggested in the OP?

*Every morning before going to work: Rinse off face with Cetaphil cleanser, and before going outside, put on Kiss My Face moisturizer/sunscreen

I just get really bad on my nose with how oily it gets compared to the rest of my face. It sucks as i have to dab at it randomly in the middle of the day to get rid of excess oil.

Is it possible that a BHA makes you oily? I've been using Stridex for a month and my nose is oilier than ever.
