Sergey has apparently tweaked this enough to be willing to share.

To note, they're now listed as "Players (experimental)" instead of owners.

Some examples:

Dark Souls 3: 3,295,000
http://steamspy.com/app/374320

Vermintide 2: 1,252,000
http://steamspy.com/app/552500

Nier: 1,175,000
http://steamspy.com/app/524220

Hollow Knight: 959,000
http://steamspy.com/app/367520

They Are Billions: 745,000
http://steamspy.com/app/644930

Frostpunk: 651,000
http://steamspy.com/app/323190

Final Fantasy XV: 490,000
http://steamspy.com/app/637650

Jurassic World: 428,000

Awesome if this is anywhere near as accurate as it was before Steam blew it up. Steam spy is an incredible resource.

I think the numbers aren't entirely accurate, Nier was at 9xxK before the shutdown, so its number here looks believable but still a bit overestimated imho

PUBG is now at 36M, it was around 30M when SteamSpy stopped. With the official numbers being 50M for both Steam and XB1, that would mean 14M on XB1, which sounds like way too much. I was expecting something around 42M/8M. Not sure if I believe it.

Finally :D I missed randomly looking up stats!

But I suppose there could be a lot of Family Sharing going on that might be included this way?

Battletech at 278,000 atm.

Original Sin 2 at 1,689,000

The Dark Souls 3 numbers on PC are just insane.

Hollow Knight is where I'd expected it to be close to 1 mil.

Pillars of Eternity 2 is only 200k? Holy crap, that's a bit sad to be honest. I like it far more than the first one. Huh. Weird.

These are estimated number of players based on achievements earned, not sales

From the person who came up with it:
All players is different from owners or unit sales. For popular non-discounted games, players may be over 90% of owners, but for discounted games, players may be as low as a few percent of owners.

https://barter.vg/browse/players/

These numbers should be viewed as a minimum

IIRC the first one climbed to around 400k after a few month and with around 2 sales in the back?
Maybe Eternity 2 has some power left when the first 30% sale comes around. Also there's an expansion planned, right? Also a way to improve sales.

Old Skyrim has 13.2 million players
Fallout 4 has 6.5 million payers
Witcher 3 has 5.3 million payers
The numbers seem at least close to what they were before.

How though? I thought Steam changed something in their backend that rendered Steam Spy defunct?

DS3 more than 3 million sales on PC WOW, does that make the PC the best selling SKU version of the game?

Ys8 9k is just sad.

I hate to kill hype here, but this is in no way owners data. I checked a few of the small games I have released, and in terms of owners data, the players (experimental) is waaaay off for owner number. All three I checked were way underballing the owner count, I think it's checking for player numbers somehow, but even that is off (but closer), and which isn't owner number. The closest one of my games was 1/3rd off from the sales number for me (it was around 2/3rds right for owner number and several hundred off for total player number), but the worst one was a free game I have titled Close Your Eyes. That game is on over 200,000 people's Steam accounts, players (experimental) guessed 74,000. That's over 2/3rds off, and player number was higher than that too by almost 20,000 also.

I don't think this is going to show sales numbers or anything like that.

On the plus side, Valve are going to make a more accurate SteamSpy.

Of course the downside is that it will no longer a neutral source

It wasn't full price though? And it came with the season pass.
Yes , it still is full price. 50€ is full price for steam.

Ys8 9k is just sad.

Yes, 50% of the dark souls 3 userbase is on steam, we knew that a while ago.
And Ys 8 , deserved zero sales, its like a port from 20th century, fuck NISA

Spot on, also i think FFXV is well over 500k now cause of the sale.

They were really pushing it as a benchmarking game, I wonder if that'll give it sales longevity. Could see it getting bumps with new graphics cards coming out, especially when we get to a point where 4k60 is within easier reach
Maybe the more sophisticated mod tools with the level and quest editor coming in Fall could give it a push too. Right now there are only simple model and weapon swap tools. Some examples so far, lmao:

That is very good news, hope something materializes from this wothin the next year.

Dunno about that. The main issue with Valve publishing sales numbers would be that they would need to agree with the different developers / publishers how they are allowed to say the numbers. Of course they can give a ballpark for them, but I am unsure how Valve expects to do it in a general way.

Personally the main reason I haven't bought FFXV yet is I bought it on PS4 already, and if I'm going to be double dipping, I want all the additional content. But at the same time as they announced the PC version with all currently released DLC and what not, they also announced a bunch more DLCs coming after that, so not gonna bother. Also I wouldn't have bought it outside a sale either.

Like most Steam games though I expect it'll keep selling over time. Many of the Steam FF games seem to sell as time goes during various sales, and since they cap sales at 50% it's not like they're losing that much money either(unlike back in the days where they had The Last Remnant at 2$ sales every other month, now it never goes down that much anymore).

This is simultaneously disappointing because Steamspy was a great resource and heartening that maybe some of the disappointingly low sellers aren't nearly as low as we are thinking.

According to my data, this new machine-learning SteamSpy is about 80% accurate right now (re: the "Players (experimental) section). The owners range is pretty large and not really accurate right now. After hearing the NoClip podcast interview with Sergey, I am definitely curious to see how this new iteration works out!

Owners: 0 .. 20,000
Players (experimental): 5,000

This is a crime. I need to shill this game harder. Such a gem! I missed SteamSpy. Always nice to know how the games you like did.
