Man, the Heroes vs Villains mode is just... bad.

Or, you could, you know, buy the game, but not spend anything on MTs.

Why do you need to "complete the progression" for the experience with the game to be valid? The progression system is bad no doubt but almost literally everything else seems great.

While you're off on your unfun principled damn fool idealistic crusade, I'll be enjoying the game without buying a single crystal.

I'm not saying you can't enjoy the game. I posted the reason why I can't. And I never said I needed to complete the games progression system to have a valid experience, I said that the games progression system is the way it is only to extort and ware down players in order for them to purchase crates. And in a $60 game, I can't support that. And buying the game, regardless if you plan on spending money on microtransactions or not, is supporting the game. Unfortunately, the two go hand in hand.

I don't know why you are calling me a fool because I'm not supporting a video game for a reason many people aren't. I didn't mean to make you feel attacked. I'm sorry.

Enjoy the game.

Gameplay feels so much tighter in third person, can't even go back to first now. Also, super minor late game spoilers but
New Objective: Settle for the Cloud Car
got a good laugh out of me.

I'll never understand how people manage to have enough time to post a book in an OT about how they refuse to play said game.

Can you no longer customize the look of your character/take your helmet off?

I like it ok, but Rey makes one on one confrontations kinda miserable.

I feel like a kid getting cornered in the playground and mugged for my lunch money half the time. Maul and Vader corner me as Rey and just keep pelting me with lightsber hits until I go down and there is little to nothing I can do about it. Maybe my team was just bad maybe the other team was good I dunno I just have had a miserable experience with it the one or two times I've tried it today.

The DeathTroopers have the wrong blaster. Love playing as them but that detail is annoying me. The "progression system" is hot garbage.

Yeah, if your team scatters to the winds* and doesn't support each other, you're gonna have a bad time.

I'm really liking the Campaign so far. They're really mixing things up and I appreciate some of the little character moments.
MP is also significantly better than BF1 but I'm still not good at it.

Wait, some people think the ending
is a nod towards Rey being Iden and Del's daughter? Absolutely zero chance. Not even remotely possible.

I have to say I'm pretty astounded how good the campaign is. It's not going to win any awards but god damn is it a fun-as-hell romp through the Star Wars universe. In a lot of ways it feels very similar to a good Call of Duty campaign, the way you switch characters and change locations so frequently. It also has COD's sense of spectacle and giant setpieces. Gameplay is mostly just serviceable -- I do enjoy how the Star Card system applies to the campaign, so you can kinda customize things to your own playstyle.

More than anything I love the campaign's swiftness and bite-sized levels. What always ends up being a drag about Star Wars games is that when you go to a new planet you inevitably end up spending hours and hours there. In some other games you might go to Bespin and you know you're looking at at least 2-3 very protracted Bespin levels. But Battlefront 2 moves you from planet to planet incredibly quickly......I don't think a planet or motif is repeated even once (and certainly never twice in a row). A game that's half assembled out of re-used multiplayer assets really has no right to be as good as this is. I almost think it's to their advantage that they got to crib some of the gorgeous and pristine environments that DICE assembled for multiplayer....precisely because it prevents them from repeating looks and motifs, and allows them access to a huge variety of environments.

The story ends up being pretty decent though very obviously rushed, but it touches on some nice Star Wars themes and lets you spend time with many of its best characters (while introducing at least 1-2 cool new characters).

You can hate on the multiplayer and lootboxes all day long, but if you're a Star Wars fan I think it's definitely worth checking out the singleplayer. You can beat it in a day or two from RedBox or whatnot. It's a quick and easy spin. I certainly liked it a lot more than Wolfenstein 2, where I basically felt like my interest in the story/world was holding me hostage to a game that was not really fun to play or look at.

I will be excited for anything else MOTIVE does with Star Wars. Given the spotty history that the license has had with action games, I feel like their effort here holds up pretty well. It's not as incredible as Jedi Knight 2, but it's not as boring and interminable as Force Unleashed either.

How is the pop-in on ps4 pro? It was horrendous during the open beta.

Also can you turn film grain and motion blur off on the console versions?

And I also wouldn't spend a dime on the microtransactions but thats not why I can't support the game. Its the insane amount of grind needed to complete the games progression system. Which only exists to ware people down in the hopes that they will spend more money. In a mobile or free to play games these types of business practices, while still manipulative and gross, are just part of the deal. Free = dealing with pay to win models and lots of grinding if you don't pay.

But in a $60 game, these types of practices have no reason to be in the game. And if we as a group of people just shrug and say "didn't affect me" then the thing EA sees is they can get away with it. If this game sells well, it makes me worried that the next Battlefield game will be similar. And BF 1's progression system already felt a little to slow compared to past battlefield games.

So because of that, I can't support the game. A game I very much like and would have bought if it wasn't tied to this type of pay to win system.

I'm not trying to attack you, but there really is nothing we can do to make this thing sell badly. It's going to be a massive hit, this shitstorm online hardly dents the total sales.

Also, I really really want Ana de Armas to be a Star Wars actress! Loved her in Blade Runner 2049.

Can't comment on pop in since I only tried it on the XBX not my Pro so far but you can disable film grain, vignette and chromatic aberration, and lens effect as 3 separate options.

Had some amazing games of HvV last night.

Rey needs a nerf though. 1V1 she pretty much wins everytime.

Awaiting a great epic SP campaign made me want to buy it day one. After reading some of the reviews, I'll probably wait for a sale.
Why in devils name did they fuck this up? I'm kinda sad right now.
We had so good SP Star Wars Games in the past. I can't believe they fucked up my favorite franchise (again)

The single player is good though? May not be worth the price due to the length but they in no way fucked the campaign up.

Other than KOTOR, there really haven't been any outstanding singleplayer Star Wars games in the last 10-15 years.

And I'd say that the campaign here is pretty enjoyable, especially if you just enjoy the Star Wars universe.

Played a couple of hours of this last night. It'll be a decent game once they've refined it all and sorted out the nonsense with loot boxes, plus of course added more (free) content with DLC. Like with the first Battlefront it'll end up being a decent game just as everyone has moved on to other things.

I'd certainly say to people who are still deliberating whether or not to get it to hold off for a month or two until they've sorted it. You're always playing what is essentially a paid for beta test with games like this for the first month anyway.

Is there split screen co-op, for any kind of flying in this game?

Otherwise this game is looking perfect!

Heroes Vs Villains is just a ridiculous clusterfuck of imbalance. It's obvious that many of the heroes were really just designed for singleplayer/campaign stuff, and throwing them into a world of brawlers like Kylo and Maul completely breaks them. Those dudes have Special Abilities that can wipe half your health in the blink of an eye. What Special Ability does Han get? A shoulder charge that can knock you over.

I still enjoy playing it, but they really need some other Hero-oriented modes that encourage people to play as the B-tier characters. I don't see why anyone would ever want to spend Credits to unlock Leia or Chewbacca.

yesyes i know it is tongue in cheek, but still, ...... maybe we dont need to put the way we do things as the best way to do things whilst we jabs at how other do things? :>

thanks

Been pay to winning through the campaign the last two nights and finished it.
I loved a lot of the dialogue actually, I thought it was well written.
Especially Shiv and Hask I really enjoyed.
Paul Blackthrone as Hask was an amazing choice, he added so much emotion to such an otherwise easily forgettable character.

Now to pay to win the multiplayer with my friend ad go "Roger Roger!"

I'm currently working my way through the campaign to get it finished. It's...okay. Coming straight off of the CoD WW2 campaign (which I absolutely loved in all its Michael Bay esque mindless setpiece glory), it just feels really flat. CoD's missions are completely bespoke to the campaign and it has production quality through the roof. DICE games though have serious issues in their campaigns with just re-using multiplayer assets. A bunch of the levels are just ripped straight out of multiplayer and end up feeling more like bot matches with loose objectives than a properly constructed and focused campaign. It ends up feeling like high quality acting segments with farted out missions. As if the multiplayer assets were created then someone hamfisted a campaign out of them.

That said the game is so damn fun in the Galactic Conquest mode, and impressive. I really enjoy how funnelled the battles are and how they progress through the map. DICE seriously need to just add the squad system from Battlefield in though rather than the absolutely terrible dumbed down auto-squads on respawn. It just doesn't work, people run off in random directions and don't work together as intended.

Have they made squad-mates stick out more on the battlefield? I remember in the beta it advised you to stay together, but I'd lose track of them pretty quickly.

They're yellow on the minimap but it barely helps. People still run of in random directions and don't work together. Seriously just let us create our own squads.
They have a big yellow symbol above their heads at all times
Sounds like a bit of an improvement at least.

Feels way weaker at the base level, just get destroyed by absolutely everyone.
Even his movement feels slow.
Comparatively I love Leia and Iden even with no cards.
Sounds like he needs a boost.
