I hope whoever they pick for Lady resembles her DMC3 CG render:

Wasn't the main reason to kinda fuck with expectations considering Nero's new haircut makes him look like Donte at a glance? I feel like they said as much in an interview.
Yeah, they said they wanted to shock people with the new look of Nero.

Also, the way I see it, they probably thought it would be better to show Nero first and let people come in term with the new artstyle and then give them a proper look at Dante.

Grandpa Dante is far too old and powerful to become the only main character in the games and Nero is an important part of Vergil's storyline now.
Next game old man Dante will have to bring a cane.

Plus it can't be only Dante vs Vergil when there is new demon king around

V is mysterious new blood, maybe related to lady but it sure will bring interesting gameplay elements to play around.

There is lots of stuff for everyone to be excited about
First of all i hate the term "Grandpa" Dante, he looks exactly the same age as he was in DMC 4, people think he looks older just because of the expression he made on a speeding bike and that the graphics are way too realistic now and a guy with silver long hair is generally portrayed as someone old and that's just a stereotype.
Second, i disagree he is too powerful, there is always something the writers can do, for example: Most people thought that goku was way too OP after buu saga and somehow they made a story with adult goku after that and it worked.
I think if it's Dante's last game as one of the protagonists story should revolve around him after all. I do enjoy the fact that we will get the proper Nero vs Vergil confrontation that we wanted so much and don't get me wrong i love Nero but i want to see a story about Dante facing his greatest challenge yet, and i think WE MIGHT get that with morrison saying in the beggining: "You never had this much trouble, are you sure you are going to make it ?"

Minivan Lady

They can just keep her looking 23 regardless of age like the RE characters - she doesn't have a canon age regardless, and the exact time between games is vague.

I suppose they could do that. Though, I suppose we'll have to see how far forward "several years" is. Nero merely existing already aged them forward a lot in 4.

She would be the sassiest cougar though. Imagine her with streaks of gray in a leopard coat lined with guns for a second. Pull my devil trigger momma.

It'd be easy to find a model for Trish but Lady's gonna be a tricky one for sure.

Well it's not like they tried hard to match the old faces for Nero and Dante.

I'm more interested in how they handle her personality and story angle.

DMC3 Lady is easily one of the best female game characters. I want more of that substance.

That's one thing that definitely needs more work in this series. Sure, you got plenty of ladies who can either hold their own, or at least have their own means of being a pertinent support character and not just a damsel in distress (like Nico). But beyond that, they don't really do much to give the ladies much agency when their personal arcs are over.

You'd think, for example, with Lady having some ties to some ancient priestess bloodline that worked with Sparda, and Trish looking like the spitting image of Sparda's late wife, there'd be plenty of angles alone to give the ladies something to work with within the context of a game's plot. Or at least have it such that the new Big Bad and his hoards would have reason to seek them out.

Lady would be a bit younger than Dante if we go by dmc3 manga so by 5 she would be in her 40s.

In 4 Dante was in late 30s to early 40s roughly.

Does Dante have full on beard in this screen or it's ragged/color fading coat?

Man, the more I think about it, the more I realize how fucked up Nero most be in DMC5. Like seriously just picture this:

"You are a member of Order of the Sword. An organization that specializes in protecting people from demons.

Due to a string of events, you realize that others in your organization are demons trying to open the hell's gate on a stupid quest to rid the entire world from demons.

Along the way to stop them you'll fight a bunch of powerful demons, awaken your inner devil, fix and acquire one of the most powerful weapons/swords in the world (that you later on realize was used by Sparda's first born), fight with Dante the other son of the legendary Sparda twice, get his approval to use his brother's sword, realize that you are also a descendant of Sparda, beat the leader of the Order who has Sparda's power/weapon and save the girl you love and probably the entire world in the process.

Dante trusts you with Yamato for good. Sends you a Devil May Cry neon sign so you could start your own demon hunting business. You put the sign on a van and get on to demon hunting, making Dante proud and earning a living.

Several years have gone by since then. You are a pro at hunting demons now. You've managed to built a nice home for yourself and your lover close to sea.

One day when you are at home, the safest place in the world for you and your loved ones, someone/something sneaks up on you in your garage where you are fixing your van. He rips off your devil arm (the main source of your power) in mere seconds with his bare hands and leaves you bleeding to death. Your lover hears the noise and comes to see what has happened and all you can do while crawling towards the hooded demon/figure is to scream "KYRIE, GET BACK INSIDE NOW" totally helpless to do anything if the demon was to attack your lover.

A demon comes to your house, in your garage, rips off your arm (and steals the weapon that was trusted to you by Dante in the process) and all you can do is scream and beg/pray that he doesn't hurt your lover.

Even after you survive this attack, even if your lover survives this attack, how can any of you feel safe anymore? How can you live like this anymore? How can you not look over your shoulder every single second, expecting said demon to come back and finish the job? How can you even face Kyrie anymore? How can you ever feel safe again?"

-------------

Like, damn dude. No wonder there are a bunch of dream catchers in the van. Nero probably still has nightmares about what happened that day.

I really hope they touch on this and show what sort of mental damage Vergil's attack on Nero must've done to him. He probably felt extremely helpless in that moment. That must've had a huge impact on his relationship with Kyrie and their life as a couple as well.

I know I'm most likely setting myself up for disappointment here, but man they can do a lot of cool stuff with this.

Yikes. Never thought of it that way... Sadly, I doubt they'll touch upon much of Nero's mentality in the game. Then again, Itsuno told us to expect highly of the game...

In anticipation of DMC5 I've been practicing dante in 4, I never gave him a proper go at launch because he was very complex but thought it better to try again. Pretty happy with my progress so far.

I doubt it'll be too serious, but there is a very clear shift in tone when Nero says "I've got a score to settle with that son of a bitch", as well as the face shot they chose for the trailer. His new Dante-like attitude that almost makes it feel like Bayonetta when you combine it with the theme is GONE the moment he starts to talk about Vergil.

Nero won't go further than "This fucker gonna pay for ripping me arm", since it seems Vergil didn't kill Kyrie.
Otherwise Nero would have been 100% sulking and going nuclear.

Then when Nero finally finds Vergil and calls him son of a bitch, Dante will pop up saying "Hey, don't talk like that about your grandma!" and hilarious hijinks will ensue.

It's not that you're setting yourself for disappointment, you're exactly right, only for the fact that instead of psychological damage Nero's going to be like "ALL THIS VENGEANCE INSIDE ME!"

These are superpowered assholes with a heart of gold, they're not going to sit down reflecting about their unsafe life choices, they're going to try and rip a new one to whoever crossed them, even if they can't win.

Now, if the story was from Kyrie's POV you might get something similar to what you described above since she should arguably be even more traumatized than Nero and has zero agency.

As much as I'd love it I really doubt DMC5 will go all MGSV on our asses with everything being laser focused on themes like revenge and phantom pain.

Nero seems very much his usual self in the scenes with Nico and having a ball with his new arm.

Some epic Kaz Miller-like monologues would be welcome though.

Nero: "Dante, I'm already a demon"
Dante: "Uhhhh we established that 10 years ago"

I feel like Nero vocally expressing his grudge against Vergil in this trailer already makes this a better tale of revenge than MGSV was. If they were doing this MGSV style it'd be Nico super mad at Vergil and Nero just kind of being an errand boy the whole game :P
