The Titans were locked in a timeless battle......

Xenoblade's Opening still gives me chills at the end with that pan out.

Surprised no one posted this yet. It's not really one of the "best", but probably one of the most famous for whatever good (or bad) reasons.

Besides Xenoblade, it's either Soul Hackers or Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom (the original japanese one) for me

I've always loved the cinematic intro for Dawn of War. When the dreadnought opens fire with the assault cannon it is so good.

Someone mentioned Onimusha 3 but didn't post the intro. This absolutely blew me away at the time.

Despite the awful UI, PSASBR at least had a good opening. DKC1 is up there too, for nostalgia.

Gonna be all cliché and go "how did it take so long before ___" was posted? Shame on you ERA" etc. :P

In this case, Wild ARMs and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

Final Fantasy VI - the March to Narshe
Wild Arms (mindblowing at the time with the whistling)

There we go. Reposting because they're worth it. And FFVI is also fantastic.

I'll add these two, dated CG but still amazing music:

Final Fantasy Tactics

Panzer Dragoon Saga

I'm so glad to be a part of this community! I wanted to join another forum known around these parts to post just this topic. So this is my first post!

Specifically I have always been fascinated by games that introduce the story before you even reach the start menu. They are what cause me to know wait through all developer intros until the start menu appears on its own.

I'll start with my favorite game of all time Shadow of the Colossus. You won't know the struggle and journey Wander took to get to the bridge if you just skip it. Instead the character just starts at a bridge upon selecting a new game.

The other is one I stumbled on while revisiting games with my children. Mario Power Tennis on the Gamecube has an intro that is a complete story: intro, training montage, conclusion. It's a story for a game that has none.

Sorry my post is so long!

Always liked the Final Fantasy VIII opening. Might be my all time favorite as I still remember it almost 20 years later.

Ooh man TatVsCap opening was my jam here are a few others that had amazing openings

Namco X Capcom the beginning of amazing cross over intros Dat Taki boob jiggle :) Also probably my favorite unified artstyle of them

Marvel vs Capcom 3 ultimate, man the fact you even had to unlock the full openings, means not everyone saw it. God damn amazing opening, even bigger shame Infinite Slacked so hard on the budget we didnt even get an intro :(

Final Fantasy XIII.

Say what you will about the game, the production values of that opening intro was outstanding. I used to let it run fully most of the times I booted up the game.

Always liked the intro to Metal Saga even if it isn't really that good. The intro that is... The actual game is great!

I am a bit surprised nobody said Panzer Dragoon Saga. It is easily my favorite.

Honorable mention to Chrono Cross and Skies of Arcadia (which was extremely impressive at the time).

Edit: Someone did say PDS.

One more vote for Chrono Cross here. But since that's been played out I'll go for the unconventional pick and say the mobile game DEVICE 6 blew me away when I first saw it. (Thinking "This is just a mobile game?")

Alot of already been mentioned before, but I'll echo those statements with MGS2, Super Metroid and FF6, but the one that always blew me away and remains as the most bad ass opening to me was the Onimisha 3 intro. I don't recall anything at that time that really awed me as much as that.

Suikoden 2. One of the only times my mom ever came into my room to see what I was playing because "the music was so awesome". I love the flow of the whole thing too.

From the first time I saw it when it became my favorite, to today where it remains my favorite, Suikoden 3:

The opening sequence of Battlefield 4, where you're in the sinking car as Total Eclipse of the Heart plays. Love that scene. I have a soft spot for music with odd contexts underpinning a scene. I really liked the music in the 2017 Death Note film. Some people hated that, but I loved the choice of music paired with the visuals

The opening sequence of Call of Duty: Ghosts where you get sucked out into the desperate, vast emptiness of space and keep fighting even though you're never getting home. That scene was so good Infinity Ward basically reused it for their next game with some tweaks.

The opening of Crysis 3 is fantastic. "Victory costs. Every time you pay a little more. I saw a glimpse of what's coming. And there was nothing left of me to stop it."
