I think burn-in is a valid concern for any OLED you get especially if you're going to be gaming on it. Yes, it will have the better PQ over the 900F but if you plan on gaming on it then I would just be sure to take precautions with regards to brightness settings and not leave any static elements on the screen for extended period of time. Also, if you get the B7 from Best Buy then pay the extra for the extended warranty because it will cover burn-in. All other warranties won't.

I currently have the B7 but I'll probably be exchanging it for something like the 900F or 930E or another LED. It's a great TV but I also use it for gaming. I play Everybody's Golf probably 3-5 hours per week and I could totally see a year or two from now having the shot bar burned into my display. Can't afford to take that risk.

Not a valid concern for me. I have over 2 years of extensive gaming on my B6 and it is as good as the day it left the factory.

OLED Burn in only seems to be a big deal to those who don't own one. Well, and you I guess. Don't worry though with that usage.

How does OLED retention compare to plasma? I've had a Panasonic plasma for 10 years with no retention issues whatsoever. Just required the slightest diligence around static images.

I figure if I treat the OLED the same way it'll be just fine.

This may have been asking already but I am finding a lot of conflicting information. On LG OLED and PS4 PRO; RGB limited in PS4 settings is the optimal setting?

Tried Blade Runner and Lego Batman on ATV. Get get Atmos to work.
It's turned on in the settings. I don't see Atmos logos either in the iTunes menu.

Just to clarify.. it's not that it doesn't work but it's just nowhere as good in game mode and the 3 different local dimming settings don't seem to change anything and stays the same between all 3.

Edit: oh and I have a Q9FN

Do you actually get any black blacks, or is it grey all the time?

This may be silly to y'all but,

I don't have money to buy a TV now. Had 2 51" Plasma TV's (samsung and LG) and the LG which is the upstairs tv, just went kaput. So when I do get one we will move the one from the living room upstairs and use the new one as the primary TV.
I don't really want to spend a TON of money to be honest but would like something good for games and decent for tv/movies. 4K HDR so I could potentially upgrade to a PS4 PRO later on as well.

Thinking 500-700 range Canadian if possible. TCL sets are out because I don't think they are available here easily? Or at least the ones on Amazon seem like they are just super expensive actually.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

It's almost black but not quite. I almost thought it was black but flicking back and forth between game mode on and off, I was able to see there was a difference. I can make out the tv frame very slightly apart from the black bars in movies when I have game mode on and when I have it off I can't see the edge of the black frame and the tv frame. It's just that there's lots of blooming around bright objects and more bleed into threnblack bars. The clouding on the set becomes even more visible. This is in a very dark room btw.

It's like Samsung has decided to force a mid/low level local dimming setting on, have you tried HDR games? I'm imagining the specular highlights are really bright as a consequence? I know with my Panny, I was forever changing between mid/max local dimming, as I couldn't balance blacks with really high peak highlights.

Yea I mostly tested in hdr actually. I tried Detroit a lot and in game mode the black level wasn't as good for sure but the specular highlights didn't seem to be any noticeably brighter either. Also being an LCD screen, there's some clouding on the sets and for the most part it was only noticeable in the boot up screen of the tv, I guess before all the local dimming kicks in, but in hdr game mode I can see some of the clouding in near black scenes.

So Atmos folk, is it pretty much a guarantee that we'll be getting the DD+ container, and not THD?

no, even HDR is still mastered at rgb limited black level, hell even dolby vision its no more that 4:2:2 chroma.

specially for HDR you should set your PS4 to RGB limited as the PS4(and Xbox) outputs HDR in YUV422 due to limitations of the HDMI 2.0 standart, and YUV always operate in Limited/low levels.
Depends on the PS4 and what you are outputting. If you are doing 1080p, I believe it does HDR in RGB. On a standard PS4, you obviously do not have the choice between 1080p and 4k. In my experience, 1080p RGB + HDR required me to force full RGB with my standard PS4 and Samsung KS9000, or else I would end up with crushed blacks (I do not know if this was just a quirk with my TV since I do not see anyone else with the same problem. Either that, or everyone has a PS4 Pro now). Now that I have a PS4 Pro, this isn't an issue anymore for me since I just stick to YUV and 4k.

On a somewhat related note, you can do RGB 4k HDR now on Windows 10 with the latest update. The OS automatically switches to RGB dithered to probably get around bandwidth constraints. Not sure how much that affects quality though.

-Why I shouldn't get the X900F
Worse input lag. Especially for 1080p stuff.
Worse PQ, etc.
Worse design. Bulky compared to. Wth with that stand.
My room is mainly dark since I use the TV more during the night so that benefits the OLED.
Worse black levels even compared to R617 according to Rtings.
The whole HDMI thing.
It's not that much cheaper than the OLED.
Android TV is bad I hear.

-Why I shouldn't get the OLED
Burn in
SDR content is worse because of the processor being better on the Sony.

T- HDMI "thing" is likely because Sony has always paired a specific chipset (Mediatek) with the X1 Extreme processor. The A8F uses a newer revision X1 that seems to solve this problem, but it's an issue also for the A1 (OLED) and X900e. I won't lie, it's a bizarre catch to have when LG and Samsung just go full bandwidth on everything, but my X900F was also dramatically cheaper than the LG OLEDs and Samsung Q series, so I can't really argue too hard.

For the non full bandwidth inputs, I read somewhere that you can still run HDR, but only 4k30, so probably would be reduced color depth HDR? So it's pretty comprehensive for HDMI 1.4 devices (of which there are a lot) or 1080p devices like Nintendo Switch, PS3, Wii U, vast majority of laptops, etc. If you definitely have 3+ full bandwidth devices (UHD HDR Blu Ray, Xbox 1 X, Apple TV 4K) the mitigation plan would be:

a. Soundbar with HDMI 2b port switching
b. Receiver with HDMI 2b port switching (if you have a HT setup)
c. Monoprice 50 dollar 2b switch. (Another step for your devices, but not awful)

None of them are ideal solutions but there you go, if you're in that boat already.

- I don't understand how you can call the X900F bulky but honestly, wall mounting is the best. Certainly if you want "non bulky" you should get the Q7 or Q9 with the breakout box, because everything else on the market is about the same size.

- The Android build is slow, for sure. But it's not like running 3.0 or something. 99% of the time you use the TV to watch stuff, not browse the menus. And where it's actually really great is you get access to Google Play. Want VLC, Kodi, etc? Well you don't have to rely on the TV manufacturer for any of it.

Don't get me wrong - I would have bought the C7 or C8 if they were in my price range, but...the X900F perks are pretty good.

More confirmation that the X1X will be the first Certified HDMI 2.1 device and that devices can have most of the HDMI 2.1 features with current cables with the 18Mb/s bandwidth.

(People who use an X1X and 2018 Samsung NU8000 or Q series TV can use most of these features right now)

It being the "first 2.1" device isn't super useful right now though. And also, i'm really hoping the HDMI forum's version of VRR implementation is better than the Freesync implementation.

Took my C8 back bc it died, (wouldn't turn on.) I'm actually debating between the Q8 and the C8 now. 98% of useage is video games. I hardly ever watch TV or movies beside NBA Playoffs and NFL games.

The picture on the LG C8 was great, but now that I have my old 2013 Sony 50" LED 120hz TV hooked up again I'm thinking to myself is all the precautions and drama worth it? I used to leave my games on and paused for a long time never having to worry about image retention. Static HUDs all day long and never worried at all. When I was using the C8 I was paranoid as hell. Didn't want a chance of anything bad happening after dropping a small fortune on it.

Anybody have a Q8 or Q7,Q9? Impressions?

Don't know about the Q8/Q9 but just buy a LED.
If you can't use the TV the way you want to because you're that afraid of potential burn in, don't get an OLED.

You have a higher standard for useful than me, I guess. I consider 47-60hz in 4K and 20-120hz Freesync in 1080 and 1440p on the 2018 Samsung TVs kinda useful. Auto Low Latency Mode is also pretty sweet.

And also, i'm really hoping the HDMI forum's version of VRR implementation is better than the Freesync implementation.

Well, people with 2018 Samsung TVs and a X1X will be able to find out. They confirmed it will be available once HDMI 2.1 certification happens later this year.

Destiny 2 HDR is the best since the firmware update for my E6. I even set it to 3d and HDR and 4k. And get totally immersed.

Fixed my HDMI ARC audio issue between the B7 and my old Denon x2000. Replaced the HDMI cable with an Amazon Basics cable, all good. Will probably keep my AVR and go direct with all my sources to the TV now. Might simplify my setup without having to worry about changing picture settings or forgetting to when gaming, everything was going through the AVR then out to the tv.

So I'll be going HTPC direct to the tv. I read here that HDR from PC is finicky, how so? I have a GTX 1080, and I believe it supports HDR.

I'll asterisk this with "maybe you're a lot smarter than I am on the PC side", but you more or less need to leave everything set to defaults in NVCP. See screen below (not mine, just an example, ignore red circle). There's a bubble to leave to NV defaults or customize everything below. If you're one of those folks who loves to do all kinds of customization down there for color bit depth etc on a by resolution basis, you'll be frustrated, because you can't set that stuff per resolution, per SDR or HDR, per color format etc.

I tried forever and you get all kinds of incorrect colors etc. Leave that bubble at "NV defaults". Haven't had any issues with PC HDR since then.

Btw i also have a 1080FE

I have a 1080 and a Samsung TV, but mine 'just works'.

If I have my g-sync monitor simultaneously hooked up over display port, HDR doesn't work, but if I reboot with only the HDMI hooked up to the TV, it has worked great for stuff like Forza and Far Cry 5 that support HDR.

You installed the beta one? I'm still waiting for the official one to pop up.
I didn't realize Destiny 2 had 3D support.
Destiny 2 doesn't have 3d effect but you can use the TVs 3d Converter mode. I went to Manuel and set it how I liked it.(+20,-2) It works really well in shooters in first or third person and destiny 2 being all about bright colors it works well. Also since the image is artificially doubled you also get more AA.

Its not real 3d, where the game rendered it for both eyes but having experience how low res and low framerate, real 3d was I prefer this. It has surprisingly little input lag for what its doing.
