Im really hating these short seasons...

...because, shit, they're making the episodes so fucking good and dropping huge plot bombs every other episode that you just want longer seasons!

Lotor's evil voltron was something i had been looking forward since he made the first ship and it lived up to the hype!!

My fiancee despises the fact he went full heel in the end. Was pretty hilarious seeing her complain about his character assassination and losing his mysterious sexiness, especially when him and Allura were falling for each other. xD

I liked the angle they took

Instead of going "Newsflash asshole, i have been evil all along!", having him go mad with power trying to make Alteans the new empire and decimating the Galra was much more interesting as to make him a 3rd faction.

That final fight was serious. Anybody recognize the track they sampled for the final battle in the Monsters & Mana episode?

Sounded like Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

The whole thing was amazing. This might be my favourite season yet, although I'm sure I say that every time. Thoughts below:
  • Lotor has been great, but as someone else mentioned, his immediate turn from morally grey the-greater-good type to Saturday morning cartoon villain was a little too abrupt. I know he was drunk on the power of quintessence, but he could have been a bit less outlandish at the end.
  • Also, note that they didn't actually see him die. I wouldn't be surprised if that's not the end of him.
  • I also liked that Zarkon wanted rid of Lotor because having a half-Altean son was his biggest shame, and Lotor considered himself Altean and hated that he was half-Galra.
  • I'm glad Keith got a decent arc this season, as it felt like he was pushed to the side a little ever since he joined the Blade of Marmora. I'd like him to be the Black Paladin from now, and Shiro (assuming he gets fixed) should be with Coran, overseeing and advising the team.
  • I'd like Axca and the other two (Lotor's generals) to join Team Voltron somewhere down the line. They certainly can't go back to Haggar.
  • Speaking of which, I wonder if Haggar (or I suppose it should be Honerva now?) will be the main villain now Lotor is done with. She could have learned a lot of secrets in Oriande and, along with that detachable arm guy at her side, present a much bigger threat to Team Voltron now.
  • I loved the Monsters & Mana episode! It was a really fun little diversion.
  • They're still struggling to balance all the characters, but I can't fault them for it because there's 7 characters on the main team as well as associates, and at least 2 major villains at any given time. With all of the characterisation they gave Lotor as well as building up his relationship with Allura, it's frustrating but understandable that some characters like Hunk and Coran are sidelined.
  • I love the music so much. The synthesizer style really fits the space theme IMO, and reminds me of Mass Effect at times.
  • I just... I just love this show so much. It's close to overtaking Avatar: TLA as my favourite animated series ever. I got a little bit teary when Lance was crying over Shiro at the end and Allura put her hand on his shoulder and then went and withdrew Shiro's essence from the Black Lion. It's just so good. The characters are well defined and the voice acting is brilliant. The music is consistently on-point. The visuals are amazing and I love the space theme. I love almost everything about it.
I might have to go back and rewatch the entire thing now, as I think they way they've built up to stuff and the character reveals have been handled wonderfully. I thought the ending here almost seemed like a good ending for the entire thing, but of course I'm happy there will be more.

Spoilers for episode 2/4

so what are the chances new Altaen lady was a rejected Allura design? Because she looks SO MUCH like OG Allura, it just feels like maybe an early draft they still had lying around in an old folder from before they decided to go a little more daring with her look.

It's possible, but I honestly think it's more of a coincidence.

It is hard to say because
OG Romelle looked identical to OG Allura.
More than likely both were designed at the same time though.

I have a love/hate relationship with this show. Overall I dislike it but I watch all the episodes of the latest season as soon as it airs. I love many aspects of the show, the art style, the animation and some of the story ideas but overall it just feels like the show is ashamed of being Voltron. Instead of dwelling into the lore of the original show which did a lot of world building we get what seems to be the writers original idea of a sci-fi show which is ok, a bit boring but most importantly it's not Voltron.

Counting we know Netflix committed to 78 episodes which means we'll have 4 more "half" seasons or two more 13 episode seasons whichever way you are counting the seasons. I guess if the show has been a success we could get more episodes but it's at least nice to know we have a few more. As far as wishlist:

Stealth Voltron, Vehicle Voltron, 3 Cadets from V Force: All of these as either small cameos or maybe even an episode dedicated to them.
Original Theme: I read there were some rights issues which is odd but still I'd like to see it get worked out.
Robotic Prince Lotor / King Lotor: An amalgam version of both of Lotor's comebacks in 3rd dimension and in V Force. They were flawed but interesting takes on how Lotor would return after his defeat.

They gotta start releasing these in groups of 12 eps instead of 6.
The first two seasons were 13 episodes and we had to wait around 8 months for the next season, Netflix decided it preferred to split the 13 episode seasons every 8 months and release a "season" every 4 months or so one of 6 and one of 7.

There will be 78 episodes so we have four more split seasons.

I'm not sure if it was a rejected design but I do think it was meant to be Allura in a way even if just a reference to classic Allura, I also thought of Allura and think it's a better design for Allura and wish they had gone for it and saved brown Allura's design for a brand new character since that's a pretty awesome design as well, maybe have the role of the redheaded guy?

Loved this season it was amazing.
Glad to see the improvement of the animation.
Also finally some closure and answers!

Some great moments like:
Odd it seems like the spoiler tag is not working on mobile, Will add it later
The D&D episode was amazing
The development for some characters
The closure for the Shiro ark and the whole brotherly/family thing with Keith who was the loner and now the pillar of the team having his mom back, brother figure and good calls for being a leader now

I kind of get why people are complaining about the Lotor thing, but

once you reveal the guy was draining/killing people for his research, you don't come back from that. I can see how the personality shift at the VERY end didn't quite ring true, but the actual colony stuff felt like it fit the character and he was full villain at that point.

Just finished the season.
They really mishandled the whole clone Shiro conclusion. We clearly see that the clone is more than some kind of meat puppet and has an actual sense of self in some of the episodes this season. However, he becomes spare parts for the "real" Shiro by the end and it just feels cold all around.

I would hope it is established early next season the clone and the spirit inhabiting the Black Lion were two parts of a whole, rather than one overwriting the other.

It's a good season mostly, but episode 4 is very odd from a storytelling and production point of view.

So Lotor secretly saving the Alteans and becoming a messiah to them is all good in theory, but the way we learn about it just odd from a storytelling perspective. We get a very sparingly animated flashback from a character we have no connection to. (Had to actually look up her name, Romelle in case you're wondering.) It actually doesn't give us much insight into Lotor, despite this being the thing that ultimately condemns him as a monster. On one hand, you could just look at it as them wanting to keep the plot moving, but I feel like we missed out on a potentially really strong episode where Keith finds a group of Alteans, something that should be strong on its own, who also straight up love Lotor. Together with Romelle, they could do some sleuthing and figure out why Lotor is actually doing with the people he selects. What we get isn't awful I suppose, but it's lacking in impact.

Other than that, I really liked the season. The final fight is strong, the gag episode is pretty good, and it ends on a note that leaves me interesting in where they're going next.

Also, it's not really even a complaint, but
Lotor's generals are kinda hilarious at this point. They've joined forces with, been betrayed, and betrayed just about everyone now.

Actually
shiro-clone didn't even know he was a clone. It wasn't until Haggar took over that he actually understood who he was.

That's also why shiro-clone wanted to destroy himself, Keith, and the facility in one go. Because he understood that he was an abomination.

At this point I'm expecting a scene like in FFVII where you see the Turks hanging out at the bar because they are just so done. lol

Great season. They tied up a lot, though. What's next?

Im guessing maybe in 2 or 3 seasons:

Lotor manages to escape but falls into the alternate dimension with the evil Alteans, him already being pretty much into Altean Supremacy will team up with them and cross into his original universe.

The season as a package was a hell of a ride. So many good reveals with some really good payoffs.
I'm glad their done with the sleeper Shiro plot. Was tied off nicely with Keith's development.

Hope Lance gets some more development, love seeing him mature over the course of the seasons. Might get some good Pidge and Hunk stuff for next season too.

That DnD episode was phenomenal. Wouldn't mind seeing some more of that, only thing off about it was its placement in the season.

The way real Shiro spirit merge with clone Shiro's body is very reminiscing of when Piccolo merged with Kami and becoming one of mind and body, in Dragon Ball Z.

This season is absolutely fantastic, the D&D episode was really fun and a nice break from all the heavy plots. Keith has a lot of focus and it was nice to see his story tied in at the end with Shiro's arc.

I wonder what they're going to do with Shiro now, I assume he won't be coming back to pilot the Black Lion, but I doubt he'll be permanently written out of the show either considering they had plenty of chances to kill him off permanently and haven't. God how I wish there was a 6th Lion. It would be so badass if Shiro becomes the equivalent of the White Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Ranger.

Also this season confirmed my suspicion that Keith is really the true main hero in this show. He went through basically the whole classic hero's journey and everything.

Didn't like what they did with Lotor.
He seemed much more interesting when he was trying to do the right thing overall, but used inhumane methods to do it. Instead, complete heel turn of muhaha, I'll kill/conquer everyone except the Alteans. Not any different than Zarkon.

He is his parent's son. Corrupted by the quintessence while trying to help their people.

I just hope they finally have a new intro the next season. Its just woefully outdated at this point.

Also I hope we get a new Voltron transformation at some point, preferably with actual hands. Its not a show with magic robots without an epic last minute transformation at the end.

Great season. Probably the best imo. My main complaint is still the Voltron transformation music though and it really took the hype down a notch during the last transformation for me. Everything firing on all cylinders and then that semi-chill (I'm exaggerating) transformation music comes on. The soft strings just aren't hype or heroic enough for what's happening. The old music's blaring horns were like an announcement of "Hey! Shit is about to go down because the hero is here!". Just watch how much better it is with the old music on top (wish I could find a non Dailymotion link but that's all I could find). The current theme is fine for the intro, but doesn't cut it in the middle of an action scene imo.

This is my favorite poster yet.

Just look at that magnificent mustache cat Alfor is holding. And Keith is signing autographs, and baby Allura being cute. And best paladin Hunk being amazing as usual <3

Calling it now.

Next season will introduce the Drule empire, and while rebuilding the Castle of Lions, Pidge's dad retrofits Altean technology into Galaxy Garrison tech, leading to the creation of VEHICLE VOLTRON!!!

Just finished S6, my favorite season so far! They did some great character development and only a few questionable choices.

First off, the D&D episode was incredible. As wonderful as I hoped it would be when I first heard about it.

Next, Keith FINALLY gets all the development I've been waiting on. His arc this season in terms of finding his place has been one of my favorite characters arcs so far. And a part of that which I didn't see coming but was refreshing to see pop up was his "You're my brother. I love you." to Shiro. I worried Voltron would fall into the all-too-large category of stories that cleanly divide their character relationships into "My friends are my power!" or cliched romance that is choreographed for so long it goes stale. I appreciate the boldness to really play up on the power of non-romantic bond between two characters. It was one of the highlights of the show (along with the whole fight preceding it) and just an awesome milestone on the path of Keith's development.

And finally, like so many have mentioned before: I was excited to see the long-hinted Lotor mech pop up, and to see Lotor was far more gray-area than we knew. But then they kept turning the dial... and turning it and turning it. My problem isn't that Lotor became so determined and power hungry and essentially crazed, it's that they could had the same plot elements transpire, turn Lotor all the way to the antagonist side without it feeling so... contrived. Like, all the pieces were there for him to beg for Allura's forgiveness, be denied by her, betrayed by his generals, and to be left so totally alone that it breaks him such that he fights Voltron less out of maniacal hunger for power and more for a sense of raw loss and anger of having so many things he legitimately cared about taken from him (however completely deserved Allura's anger and his general's distrust was). They were SO CLOSE. I thought they'd do it. But instead when Allura compares him to his father he just basically shifts right into "I'll enslave all universes and have unlimited powerrrrr!" Like, the thing that kills me about it is they've laid the dominoes so well. But they never used it. They slowly set up a breadcrumb trail for the character and let it blow away in the wind. My hope with Lotor though is that we haven't seen the last of him and his last-minute bad-guy transformation is justified by his trip with Allura into the Quintessence field just an episode or two previous.

All things considered though, the show continues to get better and better. The action is better, the characters are more interesting, and they've changed the playing field more than I figured they would.

I'm still disappointed about Lotor being a mirror copy of Zarkon. What was wrong with him becoming a sympathetic anti-villain?

I never really liked Keith much in past seasons, worst Paladin imo. But this season finally made me turn around on him. Episode 6 in particular might have the best fight of the series
between him and shiro, and the ending of the episode was so good. Loved the music building up as he opens his eyes with renewed faith in helping Shiro
. Its episodes like that which remind me that this team worked on avatar prior to this and are capable of its emotional stakes from time to time

Also the DnD episode was the best 'filler' episode yet as well
