It never ends... does it?

The info originally came from /r/NintendoSwitch but I found out about this thanks to the Falcom discord. Basically if download the DLC for the Switch version of Ys VIII before applying the day 1 patch, it results in the game instantly crashing upon startup. Until NISA fixes this issue please be sure to download the Day 1 patch before the DLC.

I cancelled my preorder on this one, going to wait for the kinks to get ironed out.

I got the game early and downloaded the dlc. What can I do to save my save file? This is ridiculous.

Can't I just skip the update and keep playing until they fix this?

There are reports that the pre updated version does not come with the translation patch. Not sure if that is true or not, but this is the screen ive been seeing float around all day.

I hate NISA. I've always been sour about them since the bugs they introduced to Ar Tonelico 2 on PS2 and I can't believe how terrible they still are.

Yep, happened to me earlier. Had to delete the data and reinsert the cartridge and it was fine.

I wasn't aware this game has a history of issues...

PS4 game is all good right? Localization script fixed? Been holding off for it to get patched up but never kept up with news on that version.

Jesus.

I really wanted to support this port, but not like this. Only time I actually went through with the preorder canceled meme.

Update for everyone concerned: we are aware of the issue and working with Nintendo to solve immediately. For now we've taken down the DLC from the store to prevent anyone who could encounter this issue. If you get the error message, please remove the cart, delete the local data via Manage Software and reinstall without downloading the DLC. The main title and patches are not affected.

This should have no effect on Save Data.

I haven't been keeping up with this game 100% but when I see something about it it's a terrible bug or translation issues.
EDIT: At least devs are responding, nice!

On the one hand, it's unbelievable how poorly this game has been handled.

On the other hand, props to NIS for diligently working to fix everything (hopefully all the way) despite all the vitriol. It's a far better look than how Square has handled Nier Automata's PC port.

Still...with all of these constant stumbles, it's hard to keep good will towards NIS.

What props? They don't even have all the PS4 localization fixes on the cart, game crashes on DLC, patch schedule a month in advance, PC version is still broken, they had to re-localize the game essentially.

That's not props but rather I really hope they don't touch any other Falcom game ever (false hope, I know). There is no "props" here of any sort.

Patches aren't instant. I'd rather they get it right with the first few patches rather than do a billion bandaids. And like I said, things like this have me questioning the quality of the patches and whether this game will ever actually be worth my time and money on PC or Switch.

Secondly, while I respect that NIS is being transparent and responsive to people's complaints, if you asked me if they should be allowed to handle future Falcom games my answer would 100% be no. I would be more than a little upset if any Trails games were pulled from XSEED's hands!

I popped in the cart, downloaded the Update, and started playing no problems.

I wasn't even aware there was Day 1 DLC...?

Feel like this is uncharacteristic of nintendo to allow such an unpolished literally broken game release. They should penalize nisa and falcom in some way.

It's mind blowing to me that they didn't go the extra mile to ensure that the Switch version would launch without any issues.

You would think that they would have taken extra care to make sure that none of this would happen, I mean the DLC and everything is not new, so it's not like they were waiting on Falcom to get the DLC. I am one of those that was scared during E3 that NISA would announce they are localizing CS3. I hope that XSEED is still going to do it. The only downside that I can see happening from NISA not doing CS3 would be no N/S port since Falcom operates on a very fixed budget, and XSEED don't "do" console ports, when they do PC ports they usually get some outside help like Durante to do the PC ports (I'm glad that XSEED is keeping the Falcom PC DRM free legacy alive). I guess has rather limited funding so making a PC port and then releasing it is rather affordable and getting an outside team to do a N/S port might just cost them too much.

I guess companies will keep choosing NISA since they do have more resources, enough to were they have a CE for pretty much every game that they release type of thing. Maybe their QA department needs to see some improvement? Are any of these issues(bugs) found in the Japanese release that NIS did?

I don't think they put that much effort into some of the things that they do since they do have an extended history of issues with games, I mean they even had issues with some of NIS' own titles (I think it was that one Witch game for PS3)
