Gundam Build Divers Episode 13:

So one of the most brilliant thing about the original Build Fighters is that they didn't take themselves too seriously when it came to the central fixture of Gunpla. This series takes it self so seriously that this episode had the tone of a Shadow Game from Yu-Gi-Oh! but forgotten to have the right kind of stakes. All these former Gainax or whatever people now have the creative freedom to collectively disappoint viewers with wasted potential and questionable decisions in every tv show they're making.
I won't engage in the discussion comparing outputs from 'GAiNAXers' throughout different stages of their careers, although I'd like to point out that Mr. Ōtsuka & Co., simply wanted a more nimble and manageable "little" studio structure (in collaboration with the USPI holding and affiliated companies) that granted them, the very own creators, being more involved in the direct promotion of their properties, along the renovated ways of connecting with followers of their associated staff members, as both the main reasons to found TRIGGER Inc., because that freedom in pursuing any conceptual project is something that they actually always took for granted while at GAiNAX:

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW OF TRIGGER STUDIO / Studio Trigger France - Masahiko Ōtsuka said:
I had a great freedom at the studio Gainax. In fact, works like Gurren Lagann or Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt would never have had the agreement of other people from other studios – I am very grateful in this regard. But I thought that, now, a production studio must engage not only in the phase of the animation production but also in the promotion. In other words, it must also think the way to present its work to the fans. To make this change possible, it is necessary to obtain agreement from everyone in the studio outside of the production section. So I decided to found another studio.

Yo I started Neon Genesis Evangelion a while back and got five episodes in but never got back to it. I enjoyed but I think other things came up and I just kept pushing it back but now I feel like going back to it. If I don't expect to like it enough to watch it multiple times, should I just watch the movies or is the original version still the way to go?

There are eventually significant differences so both...but theres no point rushing for the movies because, 4.0 is coming who knows when, and perhaps the main series will get an HD Remaster Reimagining in the next few years as well, so really...no point to watch or do any of it anytime soon especially if you dont like it that much.

Gotcha. I didn't know the movie series wasn't done. Actually if that is the case, I may watch the original version some time soon and then maybe in a couple years I can watch the movies.

If by movies you mean the recent Rebuild features, those fly off in directions wildly different than the TV show such that they are really their own distinct thing. They really build on the series (how successfully is highly arguable) rather than replace, and it in a way that I'd find difficult to recommend to anyone who isn't already grounded in the thing. TV show still stands up just fine, honestly.

Honestly... that was kind of a blast. It never did quite hit Trigger/Gainax top-tier brilliance but the combination of heart and occasionally stunning/comedic genius animation was enough for me to forgive its (many) flaws. I'm a huge sucker for rivals-that-end-up-as-friends things anyway, the twist legitimately got me, and there was honestly a lot of fantastically directed shots and sequences (though the writing was often a distant third or fourth place in competence). There were a truly ridiculous amount of shots which replicated TTGL's loosey-goosey animation feel and it was all the better for it. I wouldn't put it on a must-watch list exactly but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless.

Seriously, when Croix revealed that Chariot had stolen her fan's magic to power her own, the framing of that shot and that whole sequence is just fucking powerful. They kind of walked it back a little by revealing that Croix had basically tricked Chariot into doing it, but still.

Also I think Magic Missile being legit a magic missile was kind of hilarious. If out of nowhere. Also Croix was way too easily redeemed but whatevs.

Maybe the most frustrating thing though is that I could see where there was more room to really perfect it. There's a lot of times where it feels like they wrote the general script outline and then rushed the bits that they couldn't be bothered to flesh out properly.

/edit also pretending Akko had ADD made me cope with her a lot better

Yeah. Literally cannot sympathize in any way with this antagonist. Its like some dude crying because gunpla don't break anymore IRL with the full dive VR gundam?? Stop enjoying things I dont like??

Black Bullet ep.7-8
As is normal, this show goes 0-100 mph in a matter of minutes. At least he has a new loli warrior working for him now as well. It doesn't look like it is going to end well for any of them any how. Poor story-telling/pacing aside, this show is pretty entertaining.

Noragami ep.5-6

Damn rebellious ids causing all sorts of problems for their Gods. Wasn't he a "pure" sample, which is why they selected him in the first place?

Tokimeki Memorial Only Love ep.7-8

Man, Tsubasa is just too thirsty for the MC. I mean, he has a point, he never did officially agree to be her boyfriend, but at the same time, he never denied it. Meanwhile, he is still pushing away the main heroine as well as the swimming chick.... Playa gonna play.

Oh man, Noelle got owned again. There is no way she gets Asta after all is said and done. I mean, Rebecca and Mimosa got more attention this episode, lol.

Also, either they are really bad at hiding things, or they were trying to be waaaay too transparent and didn't bother hiding who the traitor is in the captains.

Reminder that there is one movie that you need to watch after the TV series , its called End of Evangelion, as the name suggests it is the continuation of the series and end the story.
Also even if you enjoyed the 5 episodes you saw, the rest are better and more engaging so keep going .

After that there is the recent "rebuild"movies that are mostly different, there are 3 of them so far ouf of 4 -supposedly-, first movie is basically just the first 6 episodes but HD and remaked, second movie onwards is its own thing with a new direction

Too heavy or too forced?

Too forced. 9 felt like a proper place to end it. The last few episodes are just way too stupid and unnecessary with bad pacing.

Yeah, the show was very close to being an all time great but they fall short in a few areas. Nevertheless, it was such a fun romp. The last episode was a lot of hype and I def got chills during a few scenes.

Rebuild 1: "Okay this is just the beginning in HD"
Rebuild 2: "Huh, a new character, I guess they- WAIT WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED, DEAR GOD THAT AFTER-CREDITS SCENE"
Rebuild 3: "I don't even know what or why anything is happening anymore. Make it stop"

More interestingly, the rebuild movies kind of allude to being more than an alternative retelling but rather a strange loop-esque continuation. Never confirmed or anything of course.

Now, on one hand, this is quite wholesome.

On the other hand, the finally unveiled villain is too goofy to take seriously. He's just some edgy dweeb who misses the old style of Gunpla. That could be done well, but it's pretty overwrought here.

Just look at his freaking Gunpla.

smh people stopping Violet Evergarden after 9 episodes. Admittedly 9 did feel like it should have been a season finale, but 10 was the best episode of them all!

top selling media franchises in japan first half of 2018
https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-06-26/top-selling-media-franchises-in-japan-2018/.133430
This list covers sales surveyed from December 11, 2016 to June 10, 2018. It includes the raw yen totals of Blu-ray Discs, DVDs, music CDs, novels in print, and manga in print, but not games, film tickets, digital downloads, and other forms of media sales.

a couple major surprises on there for me.
I didn't think star wars would be bigger than gundam (Though I don't know if Gundam had any major releases in the last 6 months)
Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san (Teasing Master Takagi-san) being in the top 10 overall in general is crazy to me.
Dragon Ball not being on the list at all is weird especially since Sword Art Online still made the list. ( would have figured with super actively airing and the last SAO thing being a movie last year that home video and manga sales of super would have beaten SAO)
I also didn't realize at all Otaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku) was as popular as it is.

Iirc this is heavily incluenced by the time of release of some works, for example I think OP only had one volume realeased so far this year
Edit: It had 2, but this only covered one week of the last volume

SAO still sells books and manga, discs can still go. LN wise Progressive plus main SAO puts it as the best selling LN of first half 2018 thus far.

Super only has what, I guess the manga sales are alright. Far less things to buy with super, cant imagine people are actively buying Super BDs/DVDs like that.

I mean that is what I would assume thus my talks about dragon ball vs SAO.

I am not surprised one piece is where it is because it would be based on that, but since this doesn't include movie tickets I was rather surprised to see star wars above gundam and some of those things in general.

I stopped this show at episode 9.
You missed the best episode then!
While 9 feels like the finale, the 10th episode is just so good and work as a sort of epilogue

Show could've actually been something special if they had revealed that sooner rather than later...
Revealing it late is what makes it so special and powerful.
However they should have focused on that plot more for the remaining episodes and giving croix a bigger role in the end, instead of that finale with that missle-as awesome as that was-

That's exactly my point. They only give you 3 episodes to work with, but they still wanna do their bombastic finale as well. If you revealed it like 3-4 episodes earlier, it would've made for a much stronger show overall.

If you are interested in Cutie Honey then watch the 70's or Shin Cutie Honey (my favourite and the best IMO) or RE Cutie Honey as they are much better than Universe which was bland and very bad.
