It's way faster than having to upload to any host before posting it around the internet.

Honestly they should be touting this WAY more.

It should be noted that it's a temporary solution by default - any image will be automatically removed after two weeks unless you manually change the expiration date yourself. It's a nice feature to have built in, but for the sake of preservation, it's still much more ideal to use something like ShareX.

So some stuff is faster. Yet it is using the same amount of memory for exact same setup as in Chrome. 7 tabs = 2GB+ which is the same for me as on Chrome.

I use a few extensions. One can't get on firefox, okay dealing with it. One doesn't work 100%, annoying and can't find an alternative. Rest work.

Also why does the security doesn't work for half my tabs? I have it delete on exit and add sites to exceptions. I have three sites, eve though I went through everything and added everything I found (even from show cookies that are current) and every restart I have to relog in.

Also for screenshots I just use snippet from windows. Have been for years.

so I just saw the option to open a link in a "New Container Tab". Built-in support for multiple sessions? Gonna have to look into this.

edit: seems to be a built-in experimental feature that only gets enabled by certain add-ons, probably Tree Style Tab in my case.

Anyone know how to restore the classic Bookmark Menu functionality/appearance? I changed my icon set to look like this:
pjPUjQ7.png
(from here, v1.5.9, and would like the uncoloured bookmark icon for when I'm visiting a page I don't have bookmarked, and the blue bookmark icon when visiting a page that is bookmarked. Currently it looks like this for all pages I visit:
KsbTrz2.png

Would also appreciate it if someone knows how to add the "Bookmark this page" option back in.

But that's built into the browser already, has been for years. You don't need an add-on for that.

Nah, I don't trust that capability. If you have Firefox closed and then happen to click on something outside the browser that'll open it back up, that one tab will overwrite whatever your previous session was.

Is there a way to have TweetDeck as a standalone app like you can do in Chrome?

Also, is there really no way to get a mini player pop-up with Google Play Music? The button is not there in the bottom right...

I'm having this issue and clearing my cache didn't fix it.
Most likely your appdata folder in Windows got a bit corrupted if you did an inplace upgrade. I bet a fresh install will fix it. Then import over your bookmarks and stuff after you confirm it works. Had a similar issue with Vivaldi.

Not sure how to feel about the new style, but customizing icons back to where they used to be helped. Waiting on NoScript now.

I've been thinking about going back to Firefox for a while now, this might push me over the edge. I'll have to try it when I get home.

So, Pick and Save Images is legacy and they're not updating it. That's the only add-on I care about that isn't updated. Once again, Mozilla broke the new tab page, but I've found a way to restore it to the old version, so it's all good. Had to rearrange icons to get it back to the layout of 56, because why should I spend time learning a new layout?

It does seem faster - Washington Post website seems to load a couple of seconds quicker, at least.

Edit: Steam's store page load a lot quicker, too.

Can I watch 1080p Netflix on this new Firefox?

Or still limited to 720p like Chrome? (On Windows 10 btw. Yes I know Edge supports up to 4k but switching browsers is annoying :p)

What is everyone's thoughts on uMatrix? Which is from the same publisher of uBlock Origin, iirc. Any better or worse than the tried and tested NoScript?

The speed is really nice. Seems to load a lot of the websites/web apps i use for work much faster than the previous version. My issues with memory leaks seem to be gone so far and I don't have to reboot on a daily basis. (knock on wood) Albeit they always kind of say those type of issues are addressed in subsequent releases.

No more Logitech scroll wheel lag for FF Quantum--nice job there. Was having issues with other browsers.

I'm still seeing higher bitrates in Edge Browser vs. Firefox 57. Comparison here: https://imgur.com/a/sR3BQ

This is on a 1080p computer monitor. And yes, still seeing 720p resolution for Firefox as opposed to 1080p in Edge.

Oh thank god, Firefox was still open on my home computer so it hasn't updated. Now I just have to never ever close it.

Ok so I made the switch earlier and I'm planning on giving it a real try... So far it's been good except for a couple of specific points:

On my second monitor I always split my screen 90% browser and 10% Tweetdeck (see screenshot below) and it's causing some issues when I try to do it with Firefox.

-In Chrome I use the App feature to have Tweetdeck sit in a standalone window which I can't really do in Firefox. The closest I found was to run the Tweetdeck tab in it's own window but then I get a full window (with address bar, bookmark bars, etc). Also Tweetdeck has ugly giant scrollbars in firefox.
-I can't get a Google Play Music Mini-Player... The option is just not there?
-When Firefox is running in Windowed mode (not maximized) there's a big purple square in the top left... Not the end of the world but still annoying.

What I see with Firefox (notice the purple square in top left, big window for TweetDeck and ugly scroll bars)

What I see with Chrome... Clean tabs, clean Tweetdeck and small compact scroll bars

Chrome has been horrible for me lately. I don't know what changed but suddenly pages with lots of images and/or gifs would make Chrome CHUG. Been using FF Quantum and have had zero issues. Definitely my new default browser now.

What? That's blatantly false. It absolutely does not do that. You don't have it enabled, plain and simple.

However, the 'reader view' in the address bar is, and it's kinda 'whoa'
Reader view's been there a long time.

Yeah, that pissed me off too. Right-click the toolbar and select customize. You can add the bookmark button back and set it where you like.

Alright, finally got it on my home computer and phone. It already feels familiar since I tried the beta. I went back to the classic New Tab page though. I need my large tiles. The light theme is great. I didn't like the default compact mode because it made everything feel tiny. Density on normal is just perfect. Now if only unloaded tabs could have a custom color, everything would look just right.

I thought I would have to stick to v56.0.2 earlier today but I found replacement addons for most of what I was using.
The base UI is not bad at all except I don't like tabs on top (preference of mine) so, I had to go and setup "'Classic' css tweaks for Firefox 57+". It's a bit power user level to setup though.

There are two things I really really miss are the download manger and the FT DeepDark dark theme I had. See, the download manger for Firefox SUCKS. Prior to v57, I was using "Download Manager (S3)". Now, that stopped working and have to deal with Firefox's convoluted Manager that BARELY show me the advancement of a download. Once it's done, I have to right click manually on each file to make it go away. For the dark theme included, it sucks compared to the one I had. The one included doesn't even make things like Options and Addons Management UI dark...... It's just the header. So, it's kind of awkward.

On the "fast" level, it's fast AF. I agree with that. And yes, also lower RAM using thank god. I once was close of 2GB usage with barely anything going on.

Now, if I could find a good integrated download manager.......

Video DownloadHelper's updates have hit the Firefox plugin repository and are available via add-on update.

The new version does require a companion app to be downloaded and installed in order to restore certain functionality (proper downloading of videos via certain streaming protocols, also contains a build of ffmpeg to deal with videos that are streamed with video and audio channels separate) that is no longer available in Firefox Quantum's APIs. Source for the app is available in a GitHub repository for folks who want to look at it, and there is no malware or adware in the app I downloaded and installed.

Haven't done any official tests and it's only been a day, but that being said, this is noticeably faster. Everything seems to load a bit faster on pages and switching tabs seems a lot snappier. Been using Firefox since '04 and while there have been times performance has been sluggish and I've been tempted to switch, Firefox has always been home to me. I just really like the dedicated search bar, and it makes it hard for me to switch to other browsers that don't have one. Anyways, hope performance remains fast, because I'm very impressed so far.

Anyone else experiencing these:

- When you open a new tab, the website doesn't load unless you press enter on the web address.
- Homepage doesn't load when starting Firefox.

This update has sucked for me.

Keep in mind as posted earlier scrolling is something that it gonna be fixed in a forth coming version of FF.

It'll be interesting to see if this is achieved through the cpu or if they try and leverage GPU resources for this.

So just to confirm, any add-on that I am able to install is compatible with multi-process right? In the last version of firefox, if you were running a dated add-on incapable of multiprocess, the entire browser would turn off multiprocess.

Echoing the uMatrix love.

For just script blocking uMatrix is a much better add-on than NoScript. NoScript does have some additional utility to make it worthwhile with the main script blocking functionality disabled. uMatrix is more complicated, but if you were able to use NoScript you should be able to handle the additional layer of complexity that adds substantially more flexibility. Might just take a little getting used to.

uBlock Origin is also better than Adblock, for what it's worth.

Is there a way to save tabs? In case I restart my laptop?
Yeah, in the Options, set "When Firefox starts" to "Show your windows and tabs from last time." You can also open the menu and click "Restore Previous Session."

Speaking of Options, if you have plenty of RAM and CPU cores, I recommend scrolling down to the Performance section and unchecking "Use recommended performance settings." so that you can set number of content processes yourself. I set mine to the maximum of 7.
