That 3DS port is damn impressive. I loved it on Wii U and I'll happily buy it on Switch, but it's good to see that the so much effort went into making the 3DS experience comparable.

Vomit inducing is an expression, not a shitpost.

My final post because you're derailing your own thread.

Fuck me you lot are a pedantic bunch. I'm hyped for the Switch version, I don't think it looks or runs good on the 3DS, hence the expression.

*I don't like your expression therefore it's shitpost.

It's a bummer that there isn't New 3DS configuration for this game, but I guess it should look so impressive (can't look images in workplace)

Welp, other 3DS game I hope to get at Christmas.

Imagine complaining and shitposting in a thread that a video game is outputting at the maximum resolution of that console.
If you want to make a rant against the 3DS, make your own thread, this one isn't about that.

How am I shitposting when I point out 240p is especially bad in the current market?

I thought this thread is about Digital Foundry's analysis of the game on Switch and 3DS. I don't see how I expressing my dislike for 240p of a game in 2018 is not on topic.

Is praising and showing love for 3ds only appropriate to your thread? Or are you just sensitive to anyone criticizing your beloved machine.

Oh no it runs natively at the same resolution and frame rate as all the best games on the system. With full 3D support. Whatever will we do.

*I don't like your expression therefore it's a shitpost.

Shitposting is any comment, in the context on a gaming board, that derails the conversation into, in this case, an effortless, pointless comment about how you're just mad that the 3DS version exists at all. We know. Oh god, we know. In every goddamn thread.

You and the rest of the 3DS haters are children, crying because someone else got candy that you personally don't like. Over. And. Over. Again.

I played the 3DS demo and couldn't come to terms with the non-inverted camera. Why aren't they offering the camera control that they themselves introduced with Super Mario 64?

Because there's no option for the game to have a higher resolution on the 3DS. That criticism would make sense if the 3DS was capable of higher resolutions. It isn't, so you just come off as just trolling and 3DS bashing. You can't really walk that back now; your intentions were clear.

Expressing dislike towards the resolution of a device is now "trolling".

I never intended to walk anything back. My intention was to show my dislike towards a 240p game in 2018. Since the thread is on tech analysis. I think it's valid to discuss resolution.

But I guess for you lot only praising 240p is allowed in a tech analysis thread of 3ds game.

The 3D effect is so subdued in this game. It reminds me that while I will miss 3D once it's gone, it was barely worth using most of the time. Otherwise, the 3DS demo is looking pretty nice.

Whining about a 3DS game hitting native resolution is some dumb shit to double down on.

On topic, the 3ds is seven years old and tried something revolutionary at the time...the fact it's still getting games this late in it's life cycle is pretty amazing in itself regardless of it's resolution.

Just be happy you have options across three consoles and buy what suits your tastes, it's a fantastic game.

I haven't played the demo, because I have this weird aversion to playing demos of games that I've already preordered, but I'm glad that the "resolution drop" that everyone was panicking about on the demo thread was just a visual effect. It would have been incredibly bizarre if this game didn't run at 1080/60.

Plus, Nintendo has been doing a really great job at ensuring max resolution and/or 60 fps on their Wii U ports.

Really looking forward to playing this in a few weeks. Not looking forward between have to try to split play time between this, Octopath Traveler, Mario Tennis, Hollow Knight, and Mario + Rabbids (which I finally picked up during the E3 sale).

Yeah they should have went 480p for the 3DS version, at least
except 480p is also a peasant resolution, so I still would have been (rightly and smugly) dissatisfied

honestly there's no excuse for a 3DS game not to hit 720p in this day and age

I mean it's 2018

The Switch version is exactly what you would expect, but the 3DS version is just an absolute technical marvel! I was absolutely blown away by the demo! Definitely one of the most technically impressive games on the system! It even runs in S3D on an Old 3DS without a hitch! (Just compare it to 3D Land to see how far the 3DS has come!)

C'mon, breh.

Game looks good on 3DS, but not sure why they decided to mirror the top screen on the bottom.

I wonder if they could've gotten it to run at 60fps if not for that.

It probably has no impact on the rendering speed since it's just rendering the scene once and outputting it onto both screens (no different from a typical video billboard you might see in Mario Kart). It's done for the touch screen portions of the game (since you can't touch the top screen), so you can directly interact with the environment in a natural way.

I clicked the Download Demo button on the UK Nintendo game page. Usually I think that takes you to a new page to confirm, but this time I just get a check mark on the button. Is the demo downloading? Did they change how it works?

If you are gonna quote me, quote the whole thing. It was obvious I meant 240p game in 2018 is bad.

You must be real proud to come up with that original snarky response though. Good for you.

Really surprised this runs on a OG 3DS. Gonna pick it up since it's probably cheaper than the Switch version.

The heat wave effect reminded me of playing some Wii and GameCube games in dolphin, where it was common for certain effects to be locked at 480p and drag down the image quality.

I remember looking down into water in Mario Odyssey the underwater stuff would be noticably lower resolution than things above the waterline. Obviously the effect wasn't applied to the whole screen like a heat wave effect might be.

Only 720p in handheld mode? *Barfs*

Imagine having a 720p iPad. Have fun with that port!

240p....God that's atrocious.

It's the native resolution of the display, this isn't a 240p game running on a 1080p display, jeez.

You need to touch parts of the environment to activate switches, moving platforms and the like.

On the Wii U the gamepad was displaying the same thing as the TV, just as the bottom screen of the 3DS is.

Edit: Just watched the video. That on-screen pointer is fucking yikes.

Ok. I was thinking it might be worth sacrificing touch for an increased framerate (although 30fps is fine for this game), but if it's not taxing at all, I guess it's not a big deal either way.

I didn't realize the haze effect had an impact on resolution, though. It really looked nice on my switch. Now I'm wondering which version should I take, I'm still quite fond of the 3D effect.

Already have this on Wii U and love it. Will have to try 3DS demo as the added 3D seems like a nice bonus. Still unclear about the second screen usage or what if anything there is to gain from the Switch version. 3D seems like a bigger addition than a resolution bump for this game. Frankly, given it's essentially rooted in the 3D Land engine, game always seemed well suited for the system with its boxy puzzle levels.

It's quite something to see how such a fun and charming game can illicit such anger from people.

Personally I'm with John on this, I think it's a pretty cool accomplishment from the team to be able to port this game to the 3ds, major kudos to them on that.

I don't know what to tell you man. If 3DS games are going to be released in 2018, they will be 240p. There are 3DS games slated for 2019 too. And guess what? They'll be 240p as well. If it's something you can't accept, might want to stay away from 3DS threads. Complaining about 3DS games running at native resolution is pretty silly and comes off as you just trying to stir up trouble.

Still don't get why they make those comparisons... Wi U vs NS is still fair, but 3DS?

Has something changed since the views we got in the demo thread? Did they upgrade from the demo? Some were saying they've weren't buying due to the below comments.

Shit, might end up getting both just to experience the 3D effect on 3DS.

Also, the 3DS library will be insane after all is said and done.

The whole context of the comparison is to show how well 3DS holds up lol. Lol, it's like when people complained about Fortnite on Switch being cmpared to the One X version.

Remember, comparison doesn't mean competition.
