One thing I'll hand it to Supercell for is their games are very easy to stay active and engaged via in-game social features. Most mobile games (hell even some regular-ass games - looking at you Destiny 2) have absolute dogshit or nonexistent social features, so forums and Discord are practically a requirement.

GAF #QYYQCQ is very active. We're near 50/50 at all times and we've been winning almost all our clan wars even tho I'm a trashcan and never win on war day.

I have not played in a while but looking to get back in. Anyone have a clan with openings?

After not playing for probably 6 months I was impressed with all the new QoL stuff like challenges, deck sharing, etc. and they are really pushing Esports.

Having a hard time finding a clan for my and my buddies. 3 of us are over 2k and the other 3 are slowly climbing. They are all new to the game. We made a our own clan but it's just seems like a huge detriment to all of us do to the limited card donations. We had joined another game and were top donators but the leader was an asshole to people in the chat so we bailed.

The way we approach card balance in Clash Royale is a combination of playtesting, listening to the community and looking at the stats. You can expect monthly balance updates to keep gameplay fine tuned and as fun as possible.

In this balance update we're taking a look at Spear Goblins, Mega Knight, Wizard and more!

Spear Goblins: Damage +34\%, Hit Speed slower 1.2sec -> 1.7sec, first attack slower
  • This is a big change to a classic card, we wanted to make all troops able to 1-hit Skeletons/Bats and the Spear Goblins were the final holdout. Stronger Spears make them able to fight Skeleton Army and Graveyard more effectively, but a slower hit speed balances out the DPS to only a minor nerf overall.
  • The biggest change will be to Goblin Hut spawns - now long range attackers like Musketeer and Flying Machine can pop the Spear Gobs without taking damage, providing a consistent counter to the popular hut.
Goblin Hut: Lifetime shorter 60sec -> 50sec
  • Since each hit from a single Spear Goblin is stronger, we want to reduce the total number of spawns from 12 to 10. The shorter lifetime places Goblin Hut in between Furnace and Barbarian Hut, and should reduce the number of decks that can get 3 or more Goblin Huts on the field at once.
Mega Knight: Jump/Spawn Damage +23\%, Area Damage -7.5\%
  • This big guy hasn't been the same since his jump got weaker. He's using a new brand of mustache wax now ("Dragon Wax", if you're curious) and is once again able to land with significant force - squishing Zappies in a single bound!
Barbarians: Hit Speed faster 1.5sec -> 1.4sec
  • They suffer from low win rates in every mode. This buff brings them closer in DPS to the Minion Horde! They'll also enter the Arena a bit further apart, making "surround placements" a bit easier to pull off.
Battle Ram: Can be knocked back (by Barbarian Barrel, The Log, etc.)
  • Battle Rams are carried by the feet of the Barbarians, so it gets knocked back just like Barbarians do. This opens up space for Barbarian Barrel and Bowler to counter its charge, or Fireball in a pinch!
Royal Ghost: Invisibility delay increased 1.2sec -> 1.6sec
  • The fallen king is one of the strongest and highest win rate cards in the game! Towers will now get one extra shot on him before he disappears. This gives Towers a bit more damage when defending against him, while keeping all combat interactions the same.
Wizard: Area Damage +2\%, Area Damage radius +25\%
  • Wizard is a popular card in middle Arenas, but struggles to stand out the higher you climb, and has a rather low win rate in Challenges. This radius increase makes his fireball match the Fire Spirits' area damage radius. The tiny damage buff makes him able to kill Minions 2 levels higher than him, making him appealing in Clan Wars against high-level Minions. Try him with Tornado for a blazing good time!
Valkyrie: Hitpoints +7\%, first attack faster
  • Everyone's favorite pit fighter went back into training and emerged with a much tougher constitution. She can take more hits from most troops (including both Princes), and comes down ready to spin! Use her to clear Goblin Gangs and Skeleton Armies at the bridge near-instantly for maximum carnage.
Ice Golem: Hitpoints -5\%
  • This frosty foe is consistently one of the strongest defensive troops in the game. For only two Elixir, he should be a little bit more fragile.

Hooray for Wizard buff! I like mine fine, but making him stronger only helps me.

And that Goblin Hut nerf is huge. The quick first ping it gets is most of what I hate about facing it. I expect to see its use drop off a cliff.

Hey guys. I posted in our clan a while ago linking a spreadsheet that tracked our Clan Wars performance. However, it wasn't the most convenient to maintain. I needed to add the wins and losses of every war participant for each war.

So, I contacted the guys at RoyaleAPI and requested that they add the NeoGAF clan family to their site. Here is the link. This includes all of the NeoGAF clans that I was aware of. On top of war day performance, this also tracks collection day and other stuff that wasn't in my spreadsheet. The downside is that it only shows the last 10 wars. However, the guy at RoyaleAPI said that he has stored all wars in their database, so down the line they may update it to show a full history.

Anyways, for those of us in NeoGAF #20Y9PQ, here is our war analytics page.

With this balance change Valkyrie just seems too powerful not to use in place of my Knight. 400+ HP, 40+ damage, splash, all for 1 elixir.

  • Clone/Heal: Radius increased 3 -> 4
The skill of Clone and Heal is reading your opponent's hand and playing them when they don't have an answer. It shouldn't be a mechanically difficult card to execute, requiring perfect precision to catch your troops. Making them the same size as Arrows will allow players to target everything they want, when the perfect time arrives!
  • Minions/Minion Horde: Added 0.15sec Deploy Time between each Minion
Minions need time to form up into their pack! This minor animation delay will give players more time to react to the Minion Horde, and make their attacks look + feel more natural.
  • Barbarian Barrel: Area Damage +17%, Barbarian spawn location visible
Barbarian Barrel is a unique spell that can't directly damage Princess Towers. To compensate for this, we're greatly increasing its Area Damage - now the barrel can defeat Archers, much higher leveled Dart Goblins, Princesses and Goblins! Also, seeing where the Barbarian will appear makes placing the perfect distraction a bit easier.
  • Jump/Dash Minimum Range: Standardized to 3.5
    • Mega Knight: 4 -> 3.5

    • Bandit: 3.5 -> 3.5 (no change)
  • Charge Up Distance: Standardized to 3.5
    • Battle Ram: 4 -> 3.5

    • Prince: 2.5 -> 3.5

    • Dark Prince: 2.5 -> 3.5
With most dash/jump/charge Troops having a slightly different distance, we felt that this was an unneeded complexity which could be standardized. This will allow players to defend more consistently against all cards with this mechanic, and let you switch between these strategies seamlessly.
  • Rascals: No changes (yet)
Rascals remain a popular card, but the meta is still adapting to their presence. Their use rate and win rate are still in flux, and we don't want to overreact with a nerf too soon, but we'll keep an eye on them when thinking about July's monthly balance update.
  • Mirror: Will no longer appear in opening hand

  • Magic Archer (bug fix): Will no longer extend his range and accidentally wake up the King

  • Buildings (bug fix): Will no longer occasionally stop shooting at the edge of their range

I'm happy with most of these changes. I don't think Minions and Minion Horde really needed a nerf, but I doubt that change is going to do much anyways. Hopefully we won't be seeing Heal more with the radius change.

Just agreeing with the above, Minions are perfectly balanced. If someone has arrows, you typically only get one shot to do real damage with them before they're waiting to arrow them down next time

TLDR Version:
  • 2 New Cards: Royal Hogs (5 elixir, 4 hogs that function similarly to Hog Rider; New win condition) and Giant Snowball (2 elixir, Essentially a combined Zap/Log in a weaker state).
    • New cards will be available as soon as the update drops in chests (save your chests!). There will also be a draft challenge on the first day of the update to unlock them.
  • Ladder Updates
    • Reset will take half of your trophies above 4000 instead of dropping everyone down to the 4000 range. This will spread everyone out more at reset to keep competition more at your level.
    • Legendary card will be guaranteed at 5200 trophies and above now in the season chest.
    • Cards are getting rearranged within the arena structure. Some of the cards unlocked in later arenas will now be available at a lower arena and some will be vice versa.
  • Clan Wars - Mostly Quality of Life Updates.
    • Donations won't block clan war tab
    • Browse other clans info on war day
    • Spectate enemy clans battles
    • Copy war decks to personal decks
    • Social tab will be highlighted when you have a War day battle remaining
    • If you miss a war day battle there will be a popup reminding them.
    • More diversity in clan collection cards (no more single damaging spell situations)
  • New emotes were shown, but not talked about.

Decided to take a break from the game, and only play it on my tablet occasionally rather than on my phone semi-constantly. Dropped from the clan to free up the space for somebody more active.

Regarding the update notes:

I really like the two new cards, both seem to be viable in the right decks. The quality of life changes are welcomed, glad that we won't have to worry about only getting a single spell anymore. That was terrible.

I'm really liking the direction they're taking with this update. Major changes to card distribution in chests, increases in gold pretty much across the board, and cosmetic items for purchase.

Final Update Notes from today's release. Overall, this is definitely one of the better updates in quite awhile.

NEW CARDS
  • Unlock TWO new cards today!
  • Giant Snowball is a 2-Elixir Common in Frozen Peak

NEW EMOTES
1v1 ARENA BATTLES
  • We've rearranged the unlock order of cards throughout the Arenas for the following reasons:
    • To create Arenas where cards complement each other mechanically
    • Ensure there are always answers to win conditions within an Arena
    • Move low use rate, spicy cards to later Arenas
    • Where possible, match cards thematically to their Arena
    • Each new Arena will introduce new or unique mechanics
  • We're changing the League Season reset points:
    • Trophies above 4000 (up to 7600) will be reduced by 50% - e.g. a player at exactly 5000 Trophies will be reset to 4500
    • This new, more gradual system will give everyone playing 1v1 Arena Battles a better time when the League Season resets each month!
    • Check out this handy Trophy reset calculator
  • 1v1 Arena Battles above 4000 Trophies will now have 3min Sudden Death
CLAN WARS
  • Gold rewards DOUBLED (includes War Chest and Victory Gold)
  • Rewatch your Clan's War Day battles
  • Spectate the enemy Clans' War Day battles (tap "LIVE" on their boat)
  • Tap on an enemy Clan from the War Leaderboard to check them out
  • Social tab lights up gold while you still have your War Day battle left to do
  • Players who miss their War Day battle see a popup reminder
  • Copy your War Deck to your Battle Deck
  • We've switched up the Collection Day game modes to keep things fresh!
IMPROVEMENTS
  • Silver, Gold, Giant, Magical and Crown Chests now contain less Commons, but more Rares, more Epics and a lot more gold!
  • Maximum gold increased to 5 million
  • Add a custom message when kicking players from your Clan
  • New Trainers from 4000-4500+ Trophies (including Trainer Cheddar II...)
  • Tap the Cards tab to toggle between Battle Deck and Emote Deck
  • Tap the Social tab to toggle between Chat and War
  • Esports tab added to News Royale (to be enabled at a later date)
  • Once you've unlocked a card it can always appear in chests thereafter (even if you're not in the card's Arena)

The new emotes are pretty awesome. Looking forward to seeing what packs they make next.

I wonder if they have any plans for cards/tower skins as well.

Rascals provide too much value for their cost, and we wanted to give them a trim without destroying what makes the card so useful. The Boy will take fewer hits to kill and Girls will take a bit longer to wind up their slingshots.

  • Mortar: Area Damage -3.5%, Hitpoints -4%
Mortar's low cost and long range make it a reliable card for chipping damage onto the tower and a very passable defensive unit. We want to reduce the damage it deals to towers while keeping all interactions the same - Princesses still beware!

  • Witch: Hitpoints +17%, Spawn Speed increased 7sec -> 5sec, Hit Speed slower 0.7sec -> 1sec
Witch has long played second fiddle to Wizard, Executioner, and other ranged attackers. She has the lowest win rate in the game, which is disappointing for one of the starting Epics. Instead of buffing her damage, we opted to lower her damage and make her a tough Skeleton summoner! She will now survive Fireball + Log and create Skeletons at a faster rate, making her a unique support troop to hide behind tanks.

  • Fire Spirits: Area Damage +5%
This damage buff will make Furnace a bit more threatening, and allow a pack of Fire Spirits to destroy a Flying Machine!

  • Bomber: Range increased 4.5 -> 5
He's been focusing on arm day at the gym lately, and the results are good! Now he can throw his bombs further and will be easier to use behind a tank.

  • Mega Minion: Hit Speed slower 1.5sec -> 1.6sec
The flying menace is a strong defender and formidable attacker. For 3 Elixir, Mega Minion does it all and that's reflected in extremely high use rates and win rates. This minor nerf will slow down its defensive capabilities while still allowing two attacks on an undefended tower.

  • Goblins: Hitpoints -1%
As part of an ongoing project to standardize interactions, we're fixing a rounding error here - Minions will now two-hit Goblins at every level!

  • Giant Snowball/Royal Hogs: Added to Clan Wars Collection Day card pool
  • Draft Sets: Updated to greatly reduced the chance of getting too many building-targeting troops in the same draft

Happy to see a mortar nerf, that card is just OP on defense. I think the Witch did need a slight buff, but this looks a bit crazy to me. Fire Spirits (Furnace) buff also sounds supremely annoying.

I had a new emote pack in the shop this morning for the first time since the update came out. My pack this morning was the princess emotes. I really wanted the goblin pack with the "this is fine", evil laugh, and scared emotes.
